Ultimately this comes down to the writing team. The animated series pilot had the weight of someone with both animation experience (having worked on *_Mummies Alive!_* in the 90s) and had just become a fan of the series after playing the original game for research. Although Kingdom Hearts has typically had Kazushige Nojima (FF7, FF8, FFX, FF7 Remake) as one of the main writers, there was still other "chefs" in the kitchen who had to give the OK on what could be in the series (infamously, Bobby Iger was the liaison back then and prevented Gargoyles from being in the original KH). So, those with less restrictions, like Shiro Amano for example, get to do these little nice writing moments.

If Marvel worked like DC I wouldn't consider it over reliance, DC has a main cinematic universe but also supports movies not interconnected that are really good.

if they didn't cancel this, then the story of KH as a whole might've been different. Pretty sure they didn't want conflicting media as they saw the game's potential to expand into more games Obv there could have been a way to make this all work, but I don't think execs had faith in maintaining a scenario with two different KH storylines

So, this 11 minutes is a mix of, roughly, the closing 10% of episode 1, the opening of episode 2 and more than 1/3 but less than 1/2 of episode...4?

Bruh this animatic is just full with so much Disney spirit and charm. It also so funny when it tries to be and not try to be. The jokes are spot on. And the voice from everyone (beside Sora and Riku in some cases) is godlike, especially Goofy. This is just incredible. I saw the original video in my recommendation but didn’t watch it. Should have before it got taken down

@@rob19ny Considering how spunky she was in KH1 you'd think she would have a bit more grit to her character. She went from a caring tomboy to every other Aerith clone in the FF catalogue.

Somebody in Disney needs to see this again because this has "SMASH HIT" written all over it. Plus, it would appeal to those who'd wanna get into the games but are intimidated by the backlog.

Crazy how Sora sounds more like he does in the game than Riku even though Riku has his original VA and Sora doesn't

Now that Disney is plummeting recently, they really SHOULD pick up the idea of a Kingdom Hearts anime or animated series again. They really dropped the ball with something that had so much potential especially during the peak of the game’s popularity.

The reason Aladdin didn't appear in the episode, in the words of the director "It felt more like an episode of Aladdin where Sora guest stars more than an episode of Kingdom Hearts." So given that quote, I feel it would've had the same tone as the other movie tie in shows of the era, including Hercules.

@@disneyboy3030 square enix makes the games, but they’ve never had ownership of the IP. Kingdom Hearts and its original characters are owned solely by Disney. Also, the pilot doesn’t use any Final Fantasy characters. SE would have no reason (and no legal right) to issue a takedown Also, Kearsley confirmed on Twitter that Disney made him take it down

There should be a law that if you dont use something for a specific amount of time, it becomes public domain. It is absolutely stupid that things like this get locked away never to be used. It shouldnt even matter if Disney is making a new KH show, because besides fans of the games this isnt going to take anything away from the announcement. But I am at least glad once something is on the internet, you would have to move kingdom come to take it down forever.

Seeing this animatic remind me Amphibia a lot. With this kid who was send in an other world, meet new friends including one voicing by Goofy VA , learn how to be a hero, must fight a child friend who work for the evil, the hero even has a photo of their friends and is sad for their absence.

This show could’ve been a darker version of Disney’s house of mouse mixed with avatar: the last Airbender and the dragon Prince.

Surprisingly pretty decent pilot! I still have my problems with it though. I think the Jiminy Cricket narration would’ve gotten really old if it was a full length series and sense it’s a 11 minute episode, it had to rush and squeeze a lot of it’s narrative as fast as they can because of it’s runtime and unfortunately we didn’t get to spend much time in the Aladdin world. But maybe all these problems would’ve been ironed out in the actual series if it was given the 22 minute treatment. Who knows. I kinda wanted to see the finalized art style of Sora because I can get an idea of what Donald and Goofy might’ve looked like because when this was supposed to come out, but I would’ve like to see how Western Disney animators translating an anime-esk into the usual Disney style. All I know is that this pilot was Okay.
