Lost Judgment OST Disc.2 - 17 Unwavering Belief

Музыка

Lost Judgment is an action-adventure video game developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and published by Sega. It was released globally on September 24th, 2021. A sequel to the 2018 game Judgment (a spin-off of the Yakuza series), the game focuses on private detective Takayuki Yagami as he investigates a criminal accused of both sexual harassment and murder. Similar to how Yagami is voiced by Takuya Kimura in Japanese and Greg Chun in English, the game will feature two prominent characters voiced by two celebrities for the Japanese voiceover: Hiroshi Tamaki and Ken Mitsuishi. The game will retain the action sequences from the first game but further developed while stealth elements will also be revised.

Could be a nice add-on to the whole bullying topic that Lost Judgment touched on, but on a broader scale.

    Everyone (myself included) gets fed up with Yagami pulling the Sawa-sensei card again and again, but the game itself offers a great explanation: people hate to reflect. Seeing yourself reduced to the harm you've caused, a tangible stain you've left on the world, causes everyone but the most monstrous of us to avert their eyes. This is actually tackled in the Photography club school story, and handled with the bluntness it deserves. When Toribe holds the photos of the wallet snatcher, the biker kids, and [SPOILER] up to them, they look away. Seeing themselves so low causes them pain, and that's what leads them to repent. When it comes to Kuwana, being reminded of the innocent blood on his hands has the same effect. He averts his gaze and feels regret for the bloodstains he's left behind, which makes me believe that a less hardened Kuwana would've conceded Yagami's point. If he'd been shown his consequences early on his warpath, Kuwana might've reconsidered. Unfortunately, Kuwana's too far gone. He's killed plenty who deserved it; what would collateral damage count for in the grand scheme of things? But that's exactly what Yagami can't let him get away with; reducing his students' lives to collateral damage. He constantly forces Kuwana and Kusumoto to reflect, to understand their consequences, and it wounds them. Kusumoto almost goes through with her repentance, but a spark of hope is enough to reignite her resolve after five years of her fire going cold. As easy as it is to meme on Yagami for constantly using the Sawa card, there is a reason given in the very same game. All it takes is level 5 Teamwork and myriad completion of various other school stories to get to a five-minute microcosm 💀

  • @kartikayysola

    @kartikayysola

    8 ай бұрын

    This was a prominent theme in the first game too with Okubo and Emi. The idea that the collateral damage doesn't matter so long as a greater good is achieved is repulsive to Yagami, and after realizing what had really happened to Emi, fought like hell to make sure those responsible answered for what they did. It should come as no surprise to anyone that Yagami went as hard for Sawa as he did, he knows all too well what happens when you let that shit slide.

    People complaining about the "but Sawa-sensei" thing completely ignore the fact that Yagami is a lawyer lmao. He had THE ONE undeniable proof that Kuwana's sense of "true justice" was flawed and hypocritical, of course he wouldn't let it go, that's straight up what he studied for. Just another testament to how well written these games are.

    I love that Yagami only has Sawa as the only and final leverage against Kuwana. It solidifies the idea that Kuwana is not an evil man, but a good and broken man and Yagami actually agrees with him, but one points. but yeah, Sawa-card is like the only card Yagami can play to put a serious dent in Kuwana's psyche. Other former students in his schemes were nothing more than disposable sinners.

  • @peppercat1887

    @peppercat1887

    I believe its more to do with the first game and Emi. Yagami is traumatized cause he failed again to save a woman who was caught in the crossfire. And even moreso: It happened cause Yagami and Kuwana share the mindset. Yagami was chasing the truth and never backed off. Sawa was pulled in deeper and deeper and you can definitely make a case his pursuit play a huge role in her being killed and how she could be alive if he didn't push her as hard and if he hadnt been so reckless. He knows its the fault of not just Soma but his own mistake in how he handled it. It's just like Kuwana who follows his beliefs in his own reckless way. Sawa's death was indirectly caused by both Yagami and Kuwana in their pursuit of Justice. And yes, its the only card Yagami cause the idea of justice became so blurred that Yagami only has her left as a innocent life was lost during all this. It just means Yagami is clinging onto it cause he realized noone is right or wrong anymore. Its the same with Kuwana who held onto protecting Kusumoto as his final leverage. Both Yagami and Kuwana had their beliefs shaken due to the other. All they had left was their final leverage to keep their own beliefs alive. For Yagami it was Sawa. For Kuwana it was Kusumoto.

    I honestly think Kuwana is up there with Nishiki, Ryuji, Kuze, etc. in terms of the best antagonists in the franchise. Everything about him is compelling - whether you sympathize with or revile him - he serves as a phenomenal foil for Yagami like Ryuji was for Kiryu, and he's got an incredible series of boss fights.

  • @combathoney1

    @combathoney1

    2 жыл бұрын

    Totally agreed. I think what makes him a great antagonist is that he's not necessarily framed as a 'villain' for the majority of the game. Yeah, he sends people to attack Yagami a couple of times near the beginning, but more often than not, the player as Yagami is teaming up with him against Soma and RK, so you get to see things more from his perspective. The game basically has two antagonists - Soma who's a physical threat to Yagami and those around him, and Kuwana who's a moral threat to Yagami's notion of justice. I think Kuwana being the 'final boss', even though he's sort-of Yagami's ally was such a good choice as it makes the game less about dealing with a specific problem or threat, and more about a moral struggle over the nature of justice.

    You’re right, of course. Soma is also a phenomenal villain (cool how _both_ of LJ’s primary antagonists are incredible), for different reasons. In his case (and that of similar “complete monster” type villains like Kuroiwa), he’s so despicable and does such heinous things that he gets you invested in seeing him defeated, and makes his ultimate downfall all the more satisfying. The franchise has a lot of great examples of that mold of villain, including Soma; I just listed examples of the other, more sympathetic mold, which Kuwana adheres more to and (I believe) is one of the best examples of.

    @@littlebutcher663 Both of them are right and wrong in their own way, but honestly I lean towards Kuwana's side more. Kuwana didn't really get anyone killed, not intentionally. In my opinion, Kuwana's responsibility in Sawa's death is far less than Yagami's. Yagami kept dragging Sawa back into his investigation despite knowing she was fearful. Sure, he felt guilt at being partly responsible, but he doesn't really mention this unlike in the first game where avenging Emi is clearly one of his goals and motivations (it bothered me throughout the game he barely mentions any guilt for Sawa's death) and instead continues to blame Kuwana. Sawa also knew too much since she was beginning to figure out Kuwana was connected to Mikoshiba's murder. And the true culprits to blame would be Public Security. They wanted to go after Kusumoto and dug into any possible connections between her and Kawai's disappearance. Thus they discovered Kuwana and ended up murdering Sawa in a failed attempt to draw him out and because she knew too much.

    Kuwana was such a good addition to the main cast as a foil for Yagami. You may not agree with everything he's doing, or condone him resorting to murder, but at the same time, you understand his perspective and why he does what he does. It's like Yagami's facing a mirror, and a dark truth that the law has its limits and bullies do go free after their victims commit suicide. Both want justice for innocent victims who suffered due to an unfair law and justice system, but their paths differed, and it really makes you think and come to your own conclusions on whether one side is right, or the other, or they both are. Makes me think of Tales of Vesperia, specifically the moment where Yuri kills Cumore and Flynn confronts him about it. Yagami's Flynn and Kuwana's Yuri.

    I know people like to make fun of this soundtrack for being overly dramatic given the setting, but I think it's fitting. It captures the clash between morals and the inner turmoil of the two fighters perfectly. You can make out both the sadness, the anger, and the sheer conviction that reflect their conflicting feelings during this fight. They're two sides of the same coin, two wildly different yet fundamentally similar answers to the same question, seeking the same thing through different means. There is no right and wrong, no clear-cut answer, and there is no compromise between. The only path forward is a confrontation, and only the one with the stronger conviction will get to decide who's right and what happens next. And I think this theme fits perfectly for all of that.

While a different kind of suffering, you'd still have basically put me, someone completely unrelated who had no part in your suffering in the past, in your position. And it'd be harder to forgive you because unlike Kuwana, youd have done it knowingly. But well, noone said that victims cant be selfish, eventho it may turn them into monsters themselves. It's hard to control what victimhood does to people. Kuwana wasn't a victim and his actions were driven by guilt and a desire for redemption so he hadn't quite gone there yet as he didn't consider the innocent people he may involve when he carried out his vendetta against bullies but once he finally faced the truth Yagami was trying to show him, he stopped.

Kuwana suddenly grabs his phone with the bomb button screen tighter than usual. Flashbacks of his time as a teacher, when Sawa reported Mitsuru's bullying, and when all the bullies threw each other under the bus are playing in his head in rapid succession. "She was the last person I wanted to get mixed up in all this shit." he says to himself. But now, it's too late to get eaten alive by regrets. He's gone too far in his path for that to happen. He throws his phone on the ground, before charging at Yagami with a blood-curdling scream. Both mean try to hit each other, but fail and fall to the ground before getting back up immediately. Sawa sensei shouldn't have been killed, but she lost her life as a result being in touch with Kuwana. No matter how much Kuwana justifies his form of justice, but there will always be Sawa sensei who didn't do anything, but still lost her life that's why Yagami kept bringing her because that's the hole in Kuwana's form of Justice that innocents will lose their life, if he continues that path. Whereas Yagami being relying on Law too much and there will be innocent people who will not get justice and the criminals will get away with it because of lack of evidence, that's why Kuwana keeps bringing Mitsuru because he was a victim of the law which couldn't give him justice. Thus this battle of right and wrong is just a matter of perspectives and this battle will keep going on forever because there is no single answer.

    Yagami only had a problem with Kuwana's methods because it was getting others killed. While he doesn't condone murder he never said he was against the bullies getting their just desserts. He never once spoke up on behalf of the dead bullies. Because he knew that they got what they really deserved. It's just that in order for them to in this case, it apparently comes at a price others may end up paying and if that's the case, is it really worth it to rain vigilante justice down on said bullies? That's why he said, loud and clear, that there isn't a solution to this that would satisfy everyone but there is only one that prevents collateral casualties. Also, by the end, Kuwana's methods have already done enough to at least reveal the shortfalls of the law and how serious the consequences of bullying really are so Yagami was basically telling him to stop while he's ahead and to come clean so that Sawa-sensei can get the justice she deserves. People keep saying Yagami is insistent upon sticking to the letter of the law simply out of righteousness when that isn't the case at all.

    I need to congratulate rgg for not doing the common writer mistake of giving a villain with an airtight code of honour some unrealistic flaw with his line of thinking. He wasn’t a bloodthirsty psycho that ate babies or something, but rather he was just someone with so much internalised guilt of the children he let down he would kill for their justice. It feels like an actual decision a real human being would come to in real life. Kuwana could have just as easily chosen a path like yagami’s for the same reason he chose his murderous one.

    Despite the many people that agree with Kuwana, which I understand myself, I find myself agreeing with Yagami instead. There's a reason you're NOT playing as Kuwana. Killing those bullies must be satisfying, but is it really righteous? And his willingness to kill Yagami and his friends to hide the truth really shows his darker side as well. And near the end, Yagami tells him that covering the truth isn't fair for anyone, even the woman Kuwana was trying to protect realized her mistake in the end. But maybe there's potential for Kuwana to change from this, who knows.

    I don’t think he really wanted to kill them. Kuwana for one had to know Yagami wasn’t gonna back down. Yagami and Kuwana are in the same boat for me, they are both in the right. It’s a tragic situation all around, Bando only made his choices because of Reiko and we didn’t even have a boss battle with him which I expected because he was controlling RK for his own wealth. RK only stood to gain from being dirty lab dogs for someone they didn’t know was on the inside. I got tired of fighting RK pawns, I was looking forward to a fight with Bando. Bando ordered RK to kill just so they could use Reiko’s secret as blackmail leverage against her and her son. It’s sad they killed off Daimu like that protecting a secret he never knew about until the last minute. There really is potential in another game in the series like you could really change Kuwana if I’m being honest, it wasn’t good he did the things he did but it doesn’t mean everyone should be against him for it. There was some justice that came with the things he did but it just all caught up to him because of Public Security. I wouldn’t be mad at another Judgment game if it came with Kuwana as one of your friends in the storyline.

    @@federalcasemaker It's refreshing to see someone on my side of the argument. It's not non-existent but alarmingly rare, which I didn't expect. RGG really hit it out of the ball park getting people to sympathize with the antagonist here. Tho Kuwana never aimed to kill Yagami and co and Yagami knew that. That's why he called his bluff at the end. Guy really never meant for anyone but the ones he deemed as guilty to die. Still, despite his good intentions, his methods are wrong and will only lead to more unnecessary sacrifices. While I can't say I was rooting against him per se, I was definitely behind Yagami 100% on this.

    @@vspirit good motive and bad execution is something people rarely see in villains they root for. Same goes for Funny Valentine and Steven Armstrong. Jin Kuwana is technically one of the people in this situation too. Although now I see why people agree with Kuwana more; revenge is tempting. You wanna kill all the bad people without hesitation, but sometimes you don't realize what may happen if you do, or if that person is bad. I myself do find being tempted by revenge too, it seems so appealing that they don't get away with it anymore.

  • @ReiganLambda

    @ReiganLambda

    Well, I think you're missing something here, the reason some people want to agree more with Kuwana isn't necessarily that his ideas are better than Yagami's, but simply because his vision is more realistic and relatable. Yes, Kuwana is the antagonist and Yagami is the MC with his morally superior idea, but how many of us can actually be heroes like Yagami IRL? The only reason why Yagami survived the Public Security and all these political craps is because of his plot armor, not to mention his talk-no-Jutsu as a lawyer plus the skill to beat the shit out of people. Welcome to the real world, where we got darker political issues than LJ's plot, unfortunately for this time we don't really get many people like Yagami, but there are plenty of Kuwana in our history.

    Exactly what've some people missed in a manga based on bullies ; most of them just wanted edgy way to fulfill their revenge fantasy on their bullies without thinking how it would affect the public. To public , it's just a regular murder case as usual , unless explained for circumstances.

  • @vspirit

    @vspirit

    2 жыл бұрын

    Fair point. Tho I must point out that Yagami isnt on the side of the law simply because he thinks people should stay on the right side of it. He's a lot less black and white than that. Calling him lawful is only a borderline truth. He's on the side of it because he thinks all the innocent people who died in the course of everything, including the collateral casualties who would otherwise be swept under the rug, deserve justice, and he thinks the law is able to prevent more of the latter. But I think the real issue here is the suppression of truth by the authorities and their unwillingness to curb the issue. And from what he said, I believe Kuwana's end goal was to both show that the authorities have failed as well as reveal at some point that all these murder victims were killed for being bullies so an example could be made out of them to send a message to other bullies. Guy did have a plan. He just didn't realize that he could get others killed in the course of it. Also, while getting killed teaches the bullies nothing, I actually don't think these bullies who died can be taught. There's just something too inhuman in them to recognize the suffering of others and found pleasure in it instead. Not saying that I think Kuwana is right in his methods but that's only because it's proven to cause unwanted casualties.

    Kuwana is probably the best villain RGG has made so far. He's an excellent example of a morally grey villain, an unrepentant murderer that exclusively targets bullies who drove others to suicide. His methods are cruel and horrific, but he's also targeting people who have escaped the normal means of justice - this itself being complicated by the fact that he will stop at nothing to accomplish these murders, even if it draws in people completely uninvolved. His methods are incorrect, but bringing justice, even in his warped view of it, to bullies could definitley be said to be a good action, but at the same time, is the human cost of the innocents that were entirely uninvolved worth it? God-Tier writing.
