A great scene from a great TV show from the 60's. My all time favorite as a kid.

His scream was used for a monster roar in the episode where Will went to Scotland and encountered the ghost. It was the roar of Angus, the creature in the lake. Listen closely and you will recognize his scream, electronically altered.

@@Dallas_K - I think one of the funniest Dr.Smith lines of all was in the Season 3 episode "Space Destructors" where he creates an army of cyborgs, all of which look exactly like him. This scene and the first season of "Lost in Space" will always be badass to me. That is John Williams original score for the show in the mix. He was in his early 20s when he scored this show going by the name of Johnny Williams. The most underrated soundtrack in history.

Brian Lawton, The budget was hardly limited. The pilot, in fact, was the most expensive ever, up to that point in TV history. Although, it seems to rather remarkably have no definitive and officially verifiable reason, it's quite likely that part of why the show was cancelled, was that CBS wanted to pare back the still hefty production costs, which Allen was trying, at a minimum, to hold the line on, at the 3rd season's level.

Of course watching it on a 12 inch black and white with rabbit ears over a UHF station in the 70s certainly didnt help. The first season felt like the Twilight Zone, then the second season was trying to compete with Batman, and finally the 3rd season tried but failed to be a little more like Star Trek with a different planet every week. Oh well. I loved the show for it's hardware and the cast was excellent but the writing was a joke.

Man, I remember this scene when I was just a kid in the 60 & I was glued to the screen that's how scary I thought it was. Flash forward to the 80s & I was watching LIS on the USA network & my roommate sat down & asked about what I was watching. I said, "watch all the aliens escape". Then I pointed out they were the same aliens filmed exiting out the spaceship over & over just at different angles. Head shots then a shot of Dr. Smith looking terrified then shot of the alien's feet & the shaky cam. My roommate who had never seen LIS even though he was like 7 years older than me was watching while he lit up a bowl & almost spit out bong water he was laughing so hard. That was classic. I've loved this show through the decades & shown it to my own son back in the early 2000s. He was 6 at the time & he said it looked "fakey". I laughed so hard. Same with most of the props, which were usually repainted in order to make them look a bit different and less recognizable. Still, the show was incredibly entertaining and fun to watch and laugh along with! Although the series started out intending to be serious, it took a humorous turn when Jonathon Harris (Dr.Smith), all on his own, began modifying his lines specifically to make the Dr.Smith character more light-hearted and humorous. Producer Irwin Allen immediately realized what Harris was doing, loved it, and encouraged him to do more of it.

there are many articles about how, after a great S1, the show found itself competing against the silliness and flash of Batman in that time slot. So S2 especially got much more campy. Even down to the purple, yellow and light green in all their wardrobes. Yes, that Carrot man episode is the go to episode cited for this silliness, and is in S3, but there are some real redeeming eps still to be found in S3, despite that one. S2 is the worst of them, IMO. Of course as A 5 through 7 year old, I did not know any of this and worshipped the entire series.

But man, that talking 🥕, even as a 7 year old it was hard to accept and enjoy any part of that idea. I enjoy the Season 1 episodes way more than the colored S2 and S3. Muy buena edicion de esta escena. Los monstruos son solo 5 que se repiten, pero como la secuencia esta filmada desde diferentes angulos da la sensacion de que son muchos mas.

I am pretty sure the robot was actually running or jogging along just to keep up with Doctor Smith and how fast he was running... 😜 Think it was Rob May who was inside the robot costume so, yes, he probably had lifted up the robot's skirts and was moving his feet as fast as possible!

In many shots throughout the show he wore only the top half of the robot costume and just walked normally. These were scenes where the lower half did not show or was hidden behind rocks. You will notice the slight bobbing up and down with each step if you watch for it.

Bumbling mad scientist Dr. Zachary Smith fools around with the alien controls to imprison the spaceship's monsters and releases them. He blames the robot for it? He makes Gilligan on Gilligan's Island look like a genius.
