Fun fact: The troll turning to stone at the end has mythological basis! In Nordic folklore, some landmarks like mountains were said to be trolls exposed to sunlight, them having turned to stone due to the day. This is most likely why Nordic trolls are usually depicted with grey, stone-like skin, but that's just a guess of mine.

So that’s where JRR Tolkien got that from!

Additional Fun Fact: In an old Nordic tale, Thor's daughter was kidnapped by a troll to become his bride. So Thor essentially went to the weeding ceremony and kept the troll talking for so long that the sun came up causing the troll to turn to stone freeing Thor's daughter from the wedding.

So does most of the game! Literally everyone (except seemingly the karrhaxen).
I tell ya, Little Nightmares really created a genre in horror gaming: Giant monsters hunting small children/people.

The little detail of Olle's shoe slipping off the back of his heal was a good little thing to spot when he was climbing outta the trolls hand

But the real question is how his shoes stayed on

It is so nice seeing the smal details, the shoes are suposed to depict the wood shoe/slipper that was used in the nordics. As a scandinavian person and a HUGE fable nerd this game is so fun to watch.
The gnomes were so hella adorable and I was upset seeing them die from the traps and that aftermath of the rescue 😭😭😭😭😭 that part where Olle had to dodge that cleaver too oh lawd
It's like Little Nightmares meets Lord of the Rings combined with a grim fairy tales aesthetic. I really liked it and would definitely want to see an entire playthrough.
8:45 the song is called "kullning", it's a very old traditional Swedish art form used to rally and co-ordinate kettle. You can watch Jonna Jinton explain this further. It's literal goosebumps.
my understanding, what i can guess is that after going through the doorway and "becoming" small, they ended up in the "fairy' realm.

I WAS ABOUTTA SAY THAT
I'm a bit of a nut for European myths and legends, and I loved Little Nightmares, so seeing this fully release is great!
This game is gonna make me weep. YOU CAN’T MAKE THE GNOMES SOUND LIKE BABIES AND EXPECT ME TO NOT CARE FOR THEM! I’m gonna need a box of tissues going further.
Thank god you're taking a break. Probably the most consistent "quality over quantity" youtuber I've seen. Well deserved 😄👍

The whole time all I could think was DANGGG the graphics are just- WOW Chefs kiss incredible
Im in love with the photography after the boy fell on the river, the light upon the flowery landscape
I think this game takes place in Denmark, since Denmark is a nordic country, and if you split "Lillemor" into "Lille mor" it'll mean little mother in danish, also Olle is a name used in Denmark, though I've never met anyone calle Olle

By reading the text on the matchbox which says " Svenska tändstickor " ( Swedish matchens) I'm pretty sure it's taking place in Sweden.

Danskjävel, in all seriousness though, I think it takes place in sweden since Olle is a swedish name and it says "Svenska tändstickor" on the matches. But it still makes sense that you think that it is in denmark as our culture is pretty much the same!

man. little nightmares. that was when I actually found out about this channel. your videos have surprisingly changed my life!
My current theory is that the children weren’t shrunken down, but were actually transported to a magical real where all folklore creatures like trolls, gnomes, etc come from. In that world, the giant things like trolls are normal sized but they are big in our world.

I would recommend just looking into videos made by people that are actually swedish/Scandinavian if you're really interested in the "creatures". It can be hard to talk about a culture that isn't your own so I would not be surprised if he happens to get some info wrong if he does a lore video that includes info on the mythology

28:24 Platypus? 29:05 PLATYPUS ARMY!! And I feel so bad for the gnomes/trolls, they look so cute tho! Little tiny babies- I CAN HEAR IT CRYING AAAAAAA MY HEART CANT TAKE IT
I just generally loved how the beginning is looks friendly and adorable in the sunny day with the little gnomes like it was based for little kids game, but in night the trolls came out the dark and kidnapping the gnomes and killed them all, like it was rated R.
The storybook gave me RE8 vibes, for sure!

the voice talking to the player sounds like the storybook voice from re8 too!
Olle was happier to have found the stone than he would have been for finding his sister .
At 43:15 when you fall onto the pinecone, the song the dancing pinecones wire singing was the swedish version of the ”Happy birthday” song😭
This is such a beautiful game!! And it totally reminds me of The Witcher, particularly the Blood and Wine DLC of the Witcher 3 where you have to make your way through the fairytale storybook that comes to life, and there are horror and cutesy elements mixed in together, its totally like that!! Loving this and I will totally play the game myself too
older sister / younger brother stuffs always warms my heart especially its solely focused on their relationship man... purifying selection, genetic purging, strengthening of co-adaptive gene complex
Thanks! Your content is always awesome and a joy to watch. Please keep it up!
24:30 "I'm just an English speaking heathen" Haha. Great game, i think you played the demo a little while ago
I really enjoyed the game. I love that it mixed Nordic Folklore with Horror, both blended really well together. Some a pervious comment, I agree with the story books giving off RE8 vibes. I'm from the UK and part of a Pagan group and we discussed some folklore, so I'm familiar with some of these. Awesome video.
I've been waiting for this ever since you played the demo! I was so intrigued by not only the art style but the lore it's based on as well!
Your gameplay and commentary for the demo sold me on this game. I have been so hyped for its release. I have not watched your videos on it because I want to play it myself first. Haven't had the chance, but want to leave comments on your video to support you. I'm so glad you covered this demo so I know what a could videos I have to look forward to watching. Amazing work!
I can’t wait for analysis on this game, the older sister was definitely foolish lol nobody told her to go into the forest at night

The mother did in the beginning with the story book, but she clearly didn't listen to her. Kids are foolish, and she is a prime example of that.
props to mike for making a few more vids before he goes on holiday, nice job mike have fun on your holiday!

The scenes with the flesh and traps are scary.
I find it funny how she pronounces "Lillemor", btw the name means "Little mother", which I know some girls were called in the past in Denmark, not sure why, but I've seen it in old movies/series.

Wow this game is gorgeous
17:08 Hej då = Good bye
This really looks interesting. I love games that have you as a small creature walking around, that is one of the reasons the old MUSHROOM MEN game for the WII was so terrifying :D also the storyteller sounds like Galadriel.
This game is probably, maybe, (massively) inspired by little nightmare, the troll with the bag is like the janitor, the butcher troll is like the cook, the creature living inside the pile of meats is the creature in the pile of shoe, the concept of huge creature hunting down small things / creature, the gnomes
35:15 just a regular day living life, excluding the sister and the sewer water part
As a swede i chuckled when you tried to pronounce Lillemor och Olle but atleast you tried.
thank you thank you for ur all informations of horror games and like i cant tell just very much thxx

I'm not joking when I said this I was telling someone about the game bramble then you DO THIS!!!! My life is Officially complete.
Cool video
How does Olle not hear the loud footsteps of the trolls?
The kid just reminds me of myself when I was a kid
YES!! ive been wondering what happened to this game
I can't believe when it seemed that Olle saved those gnomes they got stepped on my a troll. That's messed up!
I loved little nightmares and wanted game 3. I almost forgot about this,
So happy to see you play and enjoy this Mike! Hope you can have a great holiday, if anyone deserves it it's you; thank you for all your hard work! This game has an odd nostalgic feel to it for me; it's like someone took my favorite childhood stories such as "Tomtebobarnen"/"Children of the forest" and mixed them with Nightmare on Elmstreet horror (I even think the protagonists are named after the song "Mors lilla Olle"). I grew up on stories in this setting, often depicting children having adventures in miniature form in the woods, meeting strange creatures both friendly and unfriendly. While the stories were nowhere near as violent as this, the folklore I have studied as an adult makes it feel quite on brand. Super excited to see how this game continues and to hear your thoughts on it! ❤
YOUR THE BEST SHB KEEP IT UP
I love kulning and i'm very happy they put it in the game
4:18 brave, stupid, foolish, crazy, they all go hand in hand at times
Loving the videos my dude have a nice holiday :D
Yess I've been waiting for this game! I'm really glad you got to play it! Its a really good game
Don't know much about folklore but I know that the reason the Troll turned to stone at the end is because in folklore Trolls can't be out during the day since the sun light turns them to stone, so they hunt and wander around at night ^_^ I'm guessing the light stone thing stunned it until daylight turned it to stone?
