Agree with you handy. When I’m on a learning job, I usually discount the price a little. You pay for your learning one way or another. HandyOn!

Right. I do the same thing, either I will not do that particular kind of job, or next time I know to charge more if it is a job I am comfort with and can improve quickly.

You’re like me. I originally thought I wanted to get into bigger construction jobs and do houses or buildings, but have found myself doing just whatever there’s a need for that pays well. Theres a lot of handyman type work that not many businesses or people do anymore and people pay good money to find a competent business that does.

Speaking from personal experience, people have no vision and will absolutely not buy a house because of something stupid like the colors of the walls.

In major markets houses are on sale for a maximum of a couple days before selling. It’s way too hot in big cities to worry about anything minor, hell even major things get knowingly overlooked

I like that I was right on with the materials cost. I guessed it was about $1000-1500. I didn't know how much the metal itself was but looks like that was about $500-600 itself.

as a res. housing investor ; I usually never bother with roof repairs . I just create a " false roof " using colored coated metal over top of the existing crap roof .

For the past few years my daily rate tends to work out to about $500 per day. So when I quote a job and it ends up taking 2 or 3 days longer than I thought it would, it feels like I LOST $1000-$1500. This is a bad attitude to have and leads to lots of worries and stress.

Hey $3500 is still great profit. Would have liked to been more at $4k+ but like you said, you got paid 3500 bucks to learn a lot and up your experience for the next job. How it works 💪

Every EPDM roof i have been on puddles around the drains, seems the fash the drain in after laying the roof seems counterintuitive but how its done. They are also alot less forgiving then the old torch downs and easy to poke a hole in.

im in commercial roofing as an estimator on my day job. wondering if i need to entertain the idea of buying some scrap material from my job for repairs like this. i live in atlanta and as my sidejob handyman business i have had a couple people ask about their low slope roofs. its like they cant find anyone to work on them at all. woukd je great for a 2-3 man crew to do on saturdays

I like these videos and your series. I tell my young family members ...learn a trade and you will have more work than you can imagine. But needs a skill level...not just a construction framer competing against migrants. And as a person that uses handymen for certain tasks your words ring true.

Title says he lost $3000, then he goes on to explain he invested 1500 and charged 5000. Good call in not being an accountant. Or a philosopher. "The logicalism aren't logialising"
