As your thumbnails states how most men can't do this kind of work, most men cower to their garage or another room in the house aka "man cave". My man cave is my whole house. If men would act like men, they'd be better at maintaining and fixing things instead of placing their jewels in their wife's handbag.

I can do this type of work, been doing handyman/property maintenance for about 10 years now and cover electrical, joinery, Decorating, plumbing and Gardening/Grounds work. I’m never out of work, I’m learning all the time, there’s nothing I won’t try and learn now, if you seek out the best people for each trade and learn from those people who are willing to teach you the best ways to do things then you’re on to a winner. Don’t forget the people that helped you along the way though, a few crates of beers here and there go a long way when you need to ask them to divulge some of their valuable knowledge in a fix! I choose my hours, choose my days, I’m booked up for months in advance and wake up loving what I do! 😊

many people will build the door/windows headers up against the wall top plate, then standard frame above up tp the header. that makes it easier to modify later on, for window/door changes. I just re-did mine that way and made sure no electrical was below the large picture windows. some day if I want a sliding door, I can just cut it open and install, no need to worry about headers and load.

I buy that weatherstripping on Amazon, $20 for 40ft. I have a number of homemade barn doors, both slidding and hinged and this stuff works great so at this point I just keep it on hand. All it needs is a 1/4-3/8" deep kerf cut and you can install it anywhere. Table saw blade width is easier to work with, but the current standard skilsaw keeg is workable, just a bit tight, matbe a better hold actually.

Tin snips and a filter tray. Slot the filter into the return laying on its side like a CD into a radio. You’d just have to change the size of the filters you use to match the dimension of the duct. Some duct tape to flash around the lips of the tray and you’re done. I’ve seen it done before by buddies who specialize in HVAC firsthand.

They paid ridiculously well (he charged $25/hr and they usually gave him a $100 tip), and he had to eventually stop taking calls because so many people started reaching out to him that he couldn't enjoy his retirement. No hard jobs: change light fixture, replace blown bulbs, change a sink faucet, put up a closet shelf, etc. A LOT of people have no idea how to maintain or fix things, so there's plenty of money to be made.... I wouldn't change a thing. That could've have taken you longer than 5 minutes to change out and that include the tine it took you to walk to your basement. Especially, if you have already done it before and know what to do and the preserved difficulties you might encounter. 🤷‍♂️

I'm a handyman in the central valley and most people want me to do everything for cheap. I only advertise and work in the nice part of town but still people don't want to pay what I want. If I got $1,500 for all that you did, I would be doing very well. I try charging more but then I don't get work.

I would have replaced that foil dryer duct with a semi-rigid one which is the way to go now. Those foil dryer ducts get brittle over time and rip, they're just bad designs. The semi-rigid ones will last forever.

You should have replaced the dryer vent pipe. All the buildup is bad in the vent and you must clean all that build up.

The problem with Handyman work….at least in calif…. Is that people are only concerned with one thing… The price I sometimes like to ask people, “do you want it done or do you want it done right?“ Most people don’t understand the question. A while back I had a lady who wanted to change a hose bib that was dripping. I told her that she could do it herself and then I could tell her how to do it but she didn’t wanna mess with it OK so I said 40 bucks. She doesn’t call me back no big deal a month later she calls me back. OK I’d like to hire you for $40. Yeah, I can smell a bad scene when something like this happen so I said have you had anybody else work on it. Well yes I did have a guy try to fix it and he came out and it stopped leaking for about a week. And how much did you pay him… $30. So I said OK I can fix it and she goes great so 40 bucks then right and I said no now it’ll have to be 65 and she almost had a cow. And I explain to her that I was positive the guy did not make the situation better and that now not only would I have to takeoff an old hose bib but he probably did something to make my job harder.… Or at least I wasn’t willing to bet that he had not. Then she says well come take a look at it and then give me an estimate. I said that’s not necessary it will be 65 then she says well I’m sure I can find somebody to do it for cheaper. And I said I’m sure you can… You already did but that didn’t work out very well you’re already down 30 how do you spend 40 instead it would’ve been fixed properly. Anyway she finally agrees to the 65 which I had her send me before I went out there because I know how that goes and so I show up and the guy has taken an old rubber washer and jammed it in there trying to stop the leak and he has glued the hose bib on he put glue around the threads to try to stop the leak short term anyway so I took pictures of all of it and I was able to clean it up pretty quick and I put the hose bib on and so I said I’ll tell you what if you tell me the name of the guy who worked here before me and his phone number I’ll cut your bill the 55. So she did and then I found him and happily posted those pictures on his Facebook to complement his work. After the first hundred or so people got done laughing at him you can imagine he was not very happy with me and I think he threaten to sue me for defamation or something else but of course truth is a defense and this scenario is not uncommon many people will call two or three people until it’s really messed up and then they want you to come fix it for chief it’s really pretty amazing and the thing is you know if somebody is poor then a lot of times I give them a break because we’ve all been there but most of the people who are the cheapest or not poor they spend money on purchase and a third car that’s unnecessary etc. I mean when somebody says they’re going to paint your house for $500 and everybody else is 2000 how do you think that guy is going to manage pain in your house for 500. First he has no license and he’s uninsured for sure second he is going to send your pay down so much the most what’s gonna go on your wall is going to be water I’ve had people tell me “oh no he used Sherman Williams paint and I always ask did you see him open a brand new Sherwin-Williams cans for did he have a big bucket in the smaller Sherwin-Williams cans and then the lightbulb goes on in their head the guy is pouring cheap paint into a Sherwin-Williams can. I know somethings are cheaper than others in this world but for the most part you get what you pay for the same is true for lawyers I’ve had a lawyer friend that I referred Cases to and this guy just by writing a letter can usually get people an extra 25 or $50,000 on their case because of his reputation these are for small cases of course and so rather than being grateful and saying wow now I’m going to get 45,000 instead of 20,000 they call me and say how come he’s going to get $15,000 for only doing an hours worth of work and I try to explain to them what do you care how long it took him to get you got extra money whether he did it in five minutes or a year he got you the extra money which is what you wanted and actually should he bring should you be grateful he did it fast rather than slow but they never are one person refused to give the guy his fee so he simply substituted out of the case and filed a lien on the case and when he did that and the person tried to represent himself immediately the insurance company reduce her offer from 45,000 back down to 20 so rather than collecting 30,000 personnel collected 20,000 less than the lien that my friend had on the case which left them about 13,000 people are just not bright sometimes the funny thing is it the people who do this in their own lives whatever they do for a living they never cut anybody a break they always charge top dollar for what they do but they don’t want anybody else to make any money it’s really ridiculous. Everybody’s got to eat in this world I’m not saying let somebody be if you are quick pay somebody fair price and you’ll get a good job usually but people always want to hire the cheapest contractor to build their house and then when they have problems halfway through they wonder why

Why waste time posting on the internet to try to punish the previous guy who worked on it and messed it up? that's a sure fire way to find drama. Let the customer do that if they want to. you must have a lot of time in your hands. usually, pros are too busy to worry about someone else's work.
