I would not change the team from that winning team v Arsenal. I would keep Luiz on bench as a weapon for last 30/45 as necessary/appropriate. I see Lille as quite similar to Arsenal and I think we could do an identical job on them as per Arsenal. I’d like to see that same team gel for future reference. Obviously Luiz is normally first option but we are getting to the point where we can have different starting lineups that are solid and with Tielamans, Zaniolo and Rogers playing so well now, we can vary starting lineups accordingly more frequently now, according to circumstances and ongoing situations. I wouldn’t change a winning team on this occasion but love Luiz, obviously he is amazing, hope we can hold onto him in the Summer. We’d also have Bailey as weapon on bench, I say please repeat what we did on Sunday with the lineup and tactics 👍👍

I agree with being calm at the appropriate times for concentration, but they also need to be aggressive at the right times too (we did not do this in that spell v Brentford.) We got the balance of calmness v aggression against Arsenal for most of the game. There are occasions where we are missing aggression and need it but I think we are close now to getting the appropriate balance. (You can’t be properly aggressive if you’re 100% Calm all of the time.) calm all of the time = complacency, e.g. when winning 2-0. Great pod thanks matey 👍😄

I would say cool. We were cool under pressure and had nerves of steel v Arsenal. We were brave and cool under pressure, for example when playing forward diagonal balls into the midfield from wide, we caught Arsenal out with that and created/kept control from those successive brave and accurate passes. We made them panic they did not stay cool but we did. 😄👍💜

Nullified their front 3? It was only EMI that stood between their attack and a 3 or 4 in the first half. They set up compact with no half spaces at VP but won’t do so at home and losing so we should be able to play through them. Just need patience, cool heads and no silly mistakes or fouls around our box.

Think that is the starting XI, I do think though that McGinn in double pivot and Youri further forward will get control and composure we need as well as slightly more defensive support. First half at least and then maybe mix it up in the second. Zaniolo definitely deserves to keep his place and a rest for Rogers makes sense (mental and physical) UTV

It's reall ysaddening to acknowledge, but my main concerns going into this game are how we respond to all the firewworks and shit that *routinely* gets thrown at players by Lille fans (cups, lighters etc), and how we respond to the diving and cheating antics. The refs are going to have a really hard night, and I just hope they can stand up to the pressure. Lille's last game at home had scenes that would see English teams banned from UEFA for years, and nobody batted an eyelid. Our players need to be prepared for that, because those kinds of emotional distractions cause errors. So lng as the refs put a stop to play acting early on, and don't go stupid with yellow cards for nothing, Villa will be fine. We'll be under a lot of pressure first half - and that's fine. Suits us. We can cope. Second half, we'll kill this off. What a shame we can't go into this thinking only about football, tactics and player skillsets :(

For the discussion about them doing well on the 1st game, we do have to remember that it's a European game and a quarter final at that. It's unlikely that Emery has us go all out amd even less do now whilst We're ahead. It's all about controlling things as much as possible and not leaving openings. Agree with the line up. I wouldn't mind McGinn in the pivot with Rogers in for Tielemans though. Either One does for me. I wouldn't be surprised or annoyed at seeing Duran start either. UTV
