Less detail than I was hoping for (natch), but still basically the only video on this technology I've ever seen anywhere. 50 years later it's still a laboratory curiosity.

Try a gas centrifuge, you can enrich your U-238 faster... 🙂

Is this the same technology currently being developed by Silex Systems, Cameco and GLE? kzread.info/dash/bejne/q2Gqr8Oefd2fiqg.html

This is a 1976 clip using UF6 gas but the same team created AVLIS which uses metalic uranium as a medium. They built 3 prototypes AVLIS units and ran for 3 years separating U235 in kilograms but because of high temperatures the units tended to break down and needed replacement, each unit ran for 400 hours and needed maintenance. The AVLIS technology was promising but the US closed the project down . The AVLIS unit had the separative power of 7000 TC12 centrifuges so 93 kg of metalic U235 could be produced in a day shame but now we have SILEX and back to UF6 gas as this video clip made in 1976 so the technology has moved on .

Now we have much stronger and efficient lasers to use for this process. One of the few processes that works well with low quantities of the target isotope. They are also using a similar process to extract rare isotopes from common ones, one of them is an isotope of calcium that the LHC people like to play with.

I hope they can make isotopic fuels less expensive and ubiquitous for use and acceptance by mainstream science and engineering.

I loved to watch this program an learn about this new marvelous process for the isotope separation of U235 and this new photo technology. But I think that you should no divulge all this technologies and do not accept foreign s to the Universities that deal with this subjects. You already have a big economic problem because you send your factories to china. And now you are enabling this people to also take your technology. Your country is committing suicide.

This has been classified as restricted information in the US, few corporations have access to information, until now 🤦🏻 🤷🏻

The issue is you don’t need a warehouse full of centrifuges, with this technology you can literally split atoms in your garage. Very hard to detect.

No worries. China is already doing this and with more efficient laser devices.
