@@GadgetryTech Glad to hear it. Would be interesting to see a video where you explain the difference between all the Lorex 4k camera systems. I don't understand why one costs $699 and one $999 for the same number of cameras and NVR. Sure, the cameras look different, but as far as I can tell, the specs are the same.

  • @vincegonsalves6125

Your video was released just as Lorex came out with a new replacement kit. Not sure where you picked that package up, but Costco has the new 8 camera kit for $800, only 2T and 60' cables, but also comes with some wireless door triggers and motion sensor. Like you said, these Lorex packages are a steal of a deal with all the tech and items you get. The newest version sports a shorter chassis (shell) which is nice and even rocks a totally new slot for a mico SD card in each camera. Lorex tech support is usually pretty good, but when I called to ask how large of a chip I could put in it, the tech tech told me that there is no card slot for the camera sitting in my hand with a clear card slot in it, that's how new it is I guess. In further searches, I could not find one mention of a card lot anywhere. The only thing I don't like about this unit and the predecessor, is that my only Lorex NVR work with a wireless mouse, these versions seem to not work with a wireless mouse, hopefully it was just an oversight and a software update can later fix.

Thanks GadgetryTech!! This is by far the best detailed video review on the Lorex 4k system that I've come across in 18 months. I keep going back & forth btwn wireless cloud cameras wyze, reolink, Tend which saves the free recordings on the cloud & this wired system which has the poe & high resolution . So I asked the following question with the highest respect. How do u or Lorex address the possibility of an intruder stealing the NVR to cover their tracks? I saw the comment below about using FTP to back up recordings but sounds kinda difficult even for an average computer savvy guy like me. I do have a usb network storage drive connected to my home router but the bad guys could find that too. I read about folks hiding the NVR in the house somewhere... etc... I like to hear about ur opinion or solution to this dilemma? Thanks in advance.

  • @GadgetryTech

    @GadgetryTech

    3 жыл бұрын

Thanks for the kind words! This is a tough one to answer because it often comes down to where you can place things in your home. FTP backups can be challenging to set up and naturally cost a bit more because you need a computer or NAS (network attached storage system) that supports the connection. Usually it's best to hide/disguise your NVR when possible. Depending on where it goes, you could always make a custom "cage" or use a couple brackets to secure the NVR somewhere if you really want to lock it down. Most thieves look for quick in and out situations. If you slow down the process or make it too inconvenient to steal the NVR, I'd image it gets left where it is.

Great review. Sorry if I missed it but does the motion alerts cause it to only record that event into the harddrive or is it continually recording but only alerting you if there is motion in the zone you set? For example...the cameras I would place at front of house would capture both the front yard and street. I don’t want to be alerted of the all the street traffic, only close to the house but would like to be able to access the full recording if needed.....let’s say if a neighbor approached and asked if there was any footage at let’s say 3-4am. Thanks

I don't know if you work for Lorex or not, but your presentation was very well done and extremely helpful. I noted you had prewires done for your home (new build?) We had same done and are considering a Lorex PoE system as well (which is what led me to your video.) Did you find that you had to use the included cables given that you had prewiring done, or did you only use the prewires? Also, I presume the prewires all run to a network hub/closet centrally located somewhere in your home (ours is in the master bedroom.) Were you able to locate the NVR someplace else in your home, or did you have to put it near your network hub/closet? Thank you so much for your excellent video!

Sorry for the delayed response. The video load speed is pretty decent, but I have a fast wifi connection on a Galaxy S9+. Perhaps some are limited by their wireless speeds? In HD mode it can certainly take longer, but you can toggle the live view to SD mode which really improves the load time. The multiple users thing is poorly explained in the app (if at all). The correct way to do it is to have everyone created their own Lorex account. Then, the primary account owner can share this camera system with them by adding their email address. The recipient needs to have a Lorex account with email created first, then you share your home system with them for it to work. From there, multiple people can view the same system without logging in or out all the time.

Hello friend, can you please tell us the differences and use cases for smart deterrence vs active deterrence models. Which is better and comprehensive.

Great review!! I installed my cameras but on my Lorex home app, the live feed is still, no movement. Not sure why. I rebooted and not luck.

Hello. I presently have the NEST cameras which work fine but this has my interest; I want cameras actually attached to my overhang of house. Do you have to have a monitor in your home for this or can you just use your phone app to view?? and how do you keep recording into the future> does it just begin to record over itself once it gets full?? thank you

if changing the hard-drive as when is brand new before first time use ( eg: upgrading from 2T / 3T to 6T/8T) then dose it need any setting/set-up/uploads or any steps to do about it or all those functions and settings and options are already pre-set in the NVR/cameras without being effected by changing/upgrading the hard drive to higher Terabytes?

Where is the best place to keep the DVR unit? I saw a few people keeping them in the attic but it gets hot and cold there.

Excellent video! Can you disable the warning lights? Also, how has the system held up?

Thanks! Yes you can disable them within the NVR user interface itself. The system has been working flawlessly. Sometimes I prefer the higher frame rate/lower resolution option for fast moving objects but at least you can choose between 4k@15 frames per second or got to a lower res 30 frame per second option.

Thanks for the review. I just bought the swann security cameras with the active deterrence and I feel the night color picture is not that good especially when the LEDs turn on my face basically gets washed out and you can't see any details. Just wondering what your experience is with the lorax? I'm thinking about returning the swann I'm getting the lorax but I do like the PIR that swann has and that particular function seems to work pretty well.

I can't compare directly to the Swann system but the quality on mine, and my neighbor's (who bought one after I showed mine) haven't seen such issues. A sub-k multi channel home surveillance system will never have the same quality as a high end commercial system but for this price point I think the quality of this Lorex system is excellent.

Hi, thanks for the reviews. I just got a Lorex N841AB2-8AB4-E from Best Buy. Eight channel w/ four deterrence cameras. May be the same system you have. Unboxed it, set it all up and turned it on. Everything works just fine. BUT, I touched the cameras after they'd been on for about 30 minutes and all four of them were hot. I'm not talking warm, I'm talking close to uncomfortably hot! The kind of heat that kills electronics. Is this normal? I called tech support and after trying to make the script reader understand what my concern was, he just told me it was normal because there is power in there...! Really, who would have thought? So, I'm putting the question out to the folks on this video, are camera temperatures in excess of 107 deg F "normal". BTW, 107 is the max that my digital fever thermometer will register. Thanks.

Great video! Do you recommend a particular model/bundle? Anything you wish you would've known before installing the system? Last, what locations around the house do you recommend each camera be installed?

Thanks! There are so many bundles to choose from it comes down to what's right for your home (number of cameras and type). Ideally you want to cover all major entry points to your home (front door, back door, side entrance, etc). Getting a nice wide picture of your property can be helpful as well. I love my camera that gets the road in front of the house, driveway, and sidewalks. It comes in handy.

I just ordered a 4 camera system with NVR from Lorex website. They are willing to customize the bundles for you. You can upgrade/downgrade cameras in the bundle, one or more, to your specific needs. Don't think you'd be able to do this with other retailers ie what you see is what you get.

You can temporarily suppress alerts on your phone so if a bunch of people are out back, turn off the bell icon in the top right of that camera zone on your app and it will stop dinging your phone. Then when things are back to normal, just turn the notification back on and you're good to go.

I do not have an iPhone but the Lorex home app is pretty straight forward. Just sign into your Lorex account or create a new one, then register the device via QR code or manually to pair the phone app with your NVR. I may do more videos on this in the future but I'm pretty booked up at the moment. Best of luck!
