Awesome idea to have the brain up in the attic. I was not looking forward to running all of the wires from the cameras down the wall, into the living room, and hooking up the brain to the main TV. How often are we looking at footage on a big screen? NEVER! You've saved me a lot of work. Thanks!

One thing I notice is where you have the camera facing your front door, you should set that camera to wide dynamic range, or WDR. It will allow you to see faces in the shadows. Also in my setup, I ran a 4K HDMI cable to my television so I can see what's going on in case I'm on the phone when I'm home. You will have to buy a USB wireless mouse to navigate, and you may have to by a 10-15 foot USB cable to extended the range for the moue as I did. Your job looks good, I really enjoy my system. I have a 16 channel system with the same cameras as yours. I also purchased a few dome cameras to zoom in on key areas like the back door so I can have a close up of someones face. The downside to the dome camera is there is no night vision, so the area has to be well lit. BTW having a camera in your garage facing the door will help a lot.

Bro! “ the attic is not a bad idea.” I also connected everything including the wifi router 2 N 8 hour plus back up power station when power is lost. Go up N dust all the electrical components for full functionally. Dust is a living nightmare for all electrical systems. Great video.

Nice review! Regarding the NVR getting stolen I recommend putting an SD card into each camera. That way you have redundancy and they would have to steal everything before you loose video footage. For the side of the house where the light is an issue at night, and for the view of the front door at night, you can force black and white night vision and you will be able to see things a lot better.

The WD purple drives in that box has a maximum operating temperature of 65C (149f). There are some attics that get this hot. Depending on what part of the country you live. Besides the temperature of the CPU in the NVR. So if you leave the box there, your drive will die prematurely and your box (if it does crap out first). Will slow down performance. Like live view will have skipped frames. Or slow notifications. Also the power brink doesn't have a fan and it is warm even if you have it inside the house. And this power bricks are know to fail. If anything its probably better in the garage then the attic. But definitely better inside the house . Maybe hidden. Like the ceiling of laundry room or in the ceiling of the pantry. Nobody would look there. Not to mention the firehazard of having an NVR running in a place where you don't have smoke detectors. Here is a quote from the manual of the lorex N841 about heat and ventilation of the NVR. Ventilation: Slots and openings in the case are provided for ventilation to ensure reliable oper- ation of the product and to protect it from overheating. These openings must not be blocked or covered. The openings should never be blocked by placing the product on a bed, sofa, rug, or other similar surface. This product should never be placed near or over a radiator or heat regis- ter. This product should not be placed in a built-in installation such as a bookcase or rack un- less proper ventilation is provided and the product manufacturer’s instructions have been followed. Heat: The product should be situated away from heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other products (including amplifiers) that produce heat. Please understand this is intended as constructive criticism. But those very two front cameras became useless as soon as I walked-up with a pocket knife. At 6'3" I can likely reach them without even a jump. Putting them in flex conduit or even PEX flexible plumbing pipe would make them far harder to cut than would be worth the time. You simply cannot leave wires exposed at any reachable heights, even if it means putting PVC piping painted to match your house - that will be far less noticeable than the cameras. In my own case with the commercial grade Lorex cameras they are black (House white with black trim) I don't mind anyone seeing them because once they've noticed they will find there's no blind spots and absolutely no blind approaches.

Each camera comes with a 100ft cable. Which will get you quite a ways. That said, any cat5e cable will work. Advisable practice is to not exceed 300ft of wire for a PoE camera. It will likely still work fine, but you may begin to notice lag or choppy footage and image quality may also be affected.

I'm in the market for an NVR Security System like this. Lorex is at the top of my list. But...I want everyone to be aware these systems are all manufactured with minimal QA (quality assurance). So check all your cameras before hard mounting them and in this particular install your cameras are not protected from the rain. For dependable service if possible mount over 8 - 9ft high (jump height) and out of the weather. Do these Lorex 4K cameras have SD card backup? Color night vision is why I am possibly choosing Lorex over Reolink.

@@golf-n-guns So I found that you can if you install a plugin in the browser. It is called Easy Viewer and can be found on the Chrome plugin store. The plugin has no bookmarks so you have to manually type in the IP address for internal connections every time or the domain name if you have it set up and if your ISP has a static IP (the two locations we have both have static so we are pointing a subdomain to them). You will need to know the direct IP address and if you are accessing it off-site you will need to pass through the ports so you can access it that way. This can be found and done typically through a decent router, this is also where you would apply a static IP and pass the port for the web interface to work for the camera system if you wanted access outside the location. I bought the systems and while they are really good I have yet to get the FLIRCloud to work. I did however find I like the Lorex Clinet for viewing so there are many ways to connect to the system. I do find their mobile app is good too. Hope this answers your question. Ross

I like your idea of the directions of the cameras but I would honestly put on at the door facing out to the street also and other cameras covering any Blindspots further out from the perimeter of the house. Cameras are expensive to buy though and it's not easy work installing a full wired system. Also the neighbors would probably start to feel like you're paranoid if you put up a dozen or more cameras. I like your setup especially for living in a populated area. Where I'm moving soon is in a more secluded area in the country so I plan on putting up a ton of cameras to cover the property and even trail cameras around the perimeter because people love to steal stuff out in the country because they think they won't get caught if the homeowner isn't home since there's no neighbors for a mile.

Isn’t it possibly dangerous to have your center module in the attic? Because it gets super hot in the attic during the summer and the therefore the module will also get super hot. Maybe I’m wrong, but I’m just saying. Amy problem with it? Does it record sound as well? I see these units at Costco. I’d like to get a set up soon, especially on sale.
