Has anyone noticed that no major media or gaming news outlets like IGN didn't report anything about UK superfan videos. Not single video or articles for a couple days to nearly a week. It's either they don't want report it or Amazon tells them that they can't. Update: Theoneringnet Twitter has photoshoped Lenny Henry's face over the a promo of Bilbo's being used alongside official posters.

I will never get over this. Never. The Lord of the Rings is one of the most beloved fantasy series of all time and yet Amazon has to pay and script people to act like superfans because everybody who actually loves the real story hates this version of it. It's a weird mix of pathetic, outrageous, and hilarious.

Me: Has read LOTR and The Hobbit nearly 10 times, has read The Unfinished Tales and the Silmarillion twice, has read every short story and poem written by Tolkien as well has his essay “On Fairy Tales” Amazon: These people, who don’t know what the rings of power, are “superfans”! Me: *Doubt*

@@disparutoo One of the problems I think is that corporations and politicians alike for some reason think Twitter reactions represent the majority when in reality it’s a bunch of loudmouth leftist activists in the super-minority. The other issue is virtue signaling. Amazon is worth so much money they don’t give a sh*t if they destroy a beloved and timeless story in the process. As long as they can appease the activists to signal their virtue, they’ve done what they set out to do.

They know what they are doing, this is nothing more than a book burning, in years to come these shallow remakes and reboots will be classed as the official narrative for these franchises, whilst the original source material be deemed too dangerous and become censored. It only takes three generations to wipe out and rewrite historical events without question after all.

And if I know something about Galadriel, it is, that she is a witch. (I'm german and don't know a better word for the magical stuff she does). Yes she can fight with sword and spear (everyone can fight with spears. And she is very old.). But that is not her role. She is a lady of the Noldor, a queen of her people, an elven witch. Not a horse riding warlord or warrior king like Fingol, Fëanor, Finarfin and their sons and brothers. Galadriel's magic is, what protected her people. It protected her realm of Lothlorien against Dol Guldur in the war of the ring and it protected her husband Celeborn's forces, when he marched out and destroyed the necromancers tower once and for all.

It's crazy they hired some tool to make these "superfan" videos and thought that we would all be so easily manipulated by these fake videos into thinking the show would be so cool. It's all so obviously fake.

Now imagine you edited these fan videos and agreed with them. You'd be so proud, yeah we really convinced everyone and included all the right stuff! The question is can you produce a quality video when you are not an unbiased person. It's hard for me to see my work objectively without some time after making it. If I was trying to push some kind of message in it then I can see why it might be impossible to EVER judge it in an unbiased critical manner.

Giant slayer has appeared to have discovered a fourth guy on the English vid was ‘airbrushed’ out of the intro entirely. And obviously not in the bulk of the video entirely. So if that is indeed true, it quite obvious that these abominations are as scripted as they appear to be.

I'm English and teach in Germany, woke culture (with kids up to 15 anyway where I am) is not popular. I tried to do a debate on western wokeness and the kids demolished it. So the Germans dismissing it in their clip is (imo) because the Germans don't want and will not accept forced BS.

It is something that relies largely in English language as it takes advantage of the various deeper concepts beneath the words that are used. When you start translating it and taking it to different cultures, it doesn't do it very well not have the same weight or difficulty to argue with. It's good to hear that other countries are standing against it.

When I saw this video, and then saw your comparisons of all the other videos of the "audience" watching the trailer premiere, I immediately knew that everyone present was an actor. The most upsetting thing for me is as George Orwell put it "the most effective way to destroy people is to deny and obliterate their own understanding of their history". Tolkien was upset that we Anglo-Saxons (modern Englishmen) have very little record of our own mythology and so he made one. And now the UK video (which should be the most devoted to him) is so far removed from an understanding of even our own fantasy mythology that we wont even have that as a relatable story

@@beo2t6 from my understanding they bought a certain part of it. It has been awhile since I read anything LOTR related but I think it was something at the end of the books that contained short stories from the second era?

I think I remember that in the german discussion, they even said, that they don't know much about LotR. Especially when you know their Online presence, they are largely comedy influencers, that a lot was cut out. I bet they had a hard time with the guy called Rewinside. His humor can be very self ironic and honest about the circumstances under which he was there.

I love how you're not letting Amazon forget this mistake, lol. And it's funny how SW and Lotr are both having big influencer debacles right now. People are really getting tired of companies' BS. Edit: Looking at that shot of Galadriel standing in her armor with fire behind her- I just realized that she has Elsa's hairstyle, lol!

Finding a real Tolkien fan that really liked The Hobbit trilogy and thinks this thing is going to be anything but bad fanfic is like finding a 6 foot tall hobbit.

The middle hobbit movie is the best of those 3. There was plenty of tomfoolery going on with that series of movies but #2 is watchable. I ate a gang of mushrooms and watched it more than once. It’s eminently hip whilst in that state. Whooo are you, and where do you come from...may..I...asssskk. Made me giggle

I liked the hobbit 'okay'. But i hadn't read the book in 10 years and waited til i could binge all 3 films. So with a lazy saturday and a decently sized blunt, i was sufficiently entertained.

It's weird how parts of the hobbit are awesome and parts are incredibly silly. Like Smough's dialouge "I will not part with a single coin." Gave me chills and then hearing it repeated by Thorin gives you the perfect understanding of the draconic greed curse placed on the treasures guarded by Smough. Also the dwarwen song "... The trees like torches, blazed with light ..." was beautiful and it was perfect how that motivated Bilbo to help the dwarves, a hobbit values a simple comfortable home so he was going to help them reclaim theirs. On the other hand parts of it where too silly and slapstick, all the fights on collapsing strucktures and the goblin song from the first movie just brought you out of the immersion. Some of the more understated jokes worked fine Bilbo seeing his enormous pantry empty after the dwarves left, Bilbo asking if he knew Thorin and Thorin looking at him as if he was the weird one as he barged into his house and the Trolls arguing about how to cook the dwarves. They really brought down the overall feel with the stupid over the top silly fight scenes.

6:15 When Germany say horny, they say Geil - technically it means horny, but it context it really is just a way Germans say 'cool'.

The 'horny' comment could have been a mis-translation as you stated. Dutch and German have some similarities in their languages. They both use the word 'geil', but in German it means 'cool!' and in Dutch it means 'horny'.

Dependig on the situation geil can also be translated as horny in the German language.

I would have enjoyed watching the 4 UK "superfans" play a Tolkien Jeopardy game answering questions from LOTR lore. Watching them swivel their heads back and forth looking searchingly at the other players for help would have been priceless.

I really don't blame them. They're there to shill for 'The Message' and to represent what the big brains in the marketing department have determined that people want. It's all very carefully scripted for maximum 'diversity' with the group covering all of the usual tropes (feminism, black representation, homosexuality, 'queerness' and disability). These people are actors and should be treated as such.

Amazon had to know this pushback was coming. They may have underestimated it but they had to know. So the real question is, what next? I’ve heard the Tolkien estate has veto power on this show. Is that coming? How could it not?

Do you think it was difficult to find a group of "Superfans" who hadn't seen the LOTR movies? Legolos? 5 Rings of Power? Saruman creating a Ring? No Dwarf representation? (The Hobbit rather than LOTR, but still just as big a series) Even without reading a book, without knowing any of the lesser known stories, only seeing the movies, I cannot imagine who someone could get these details wrong. It's like they sought out the most uninformed group possible, perhaps because no actual fan would put up with this nonsense, and put them to work.

I was just remembering how my grandfather told me the army had to get them all drunk before clearing dead tanks crews out during WW2... Looks like Amazon had the same view in mind for prepping their "Superfans"...

This just makes me so sad. The LOTR trilogy was such a huge part of my childhood. This just feels like a bastardization of everything I love about this series. The movies got me to read the books. The books made me love this world. The Amazon series makes me depressed.

@@PunchFaceChampion I accepted, that the War of Wrath and the other battles of the first age could only be filmed with massive CGI. And I'm not a fan of CGI. I liked the subtile way, Jackson used it in LOTR. It was for my liking a bit too much in The Hobbit. So I stick with LOTR. And Troy, Alexander, Gladiator, Waterloo.

@Disparu, if you haven't seen it already, you should check out George the Giant Slayer's recent video where he shows that there were actually 5 "superfans" in the UK video, but one has clearly been removed (quite poorly) using AI. Something he said they didn't agree with I guess.

The horny part was probably a misstranslation, because the German word geil and can depending on the situaion be translated as horny or something like cool or awesome.

Elves and Man worn same armors (so they can´t differentiate in battle) They want to see more Nazgul Galadriel is around 4000 Years in the Lord of the Rings Aragorn 200 Years They hope Hans Zimmer is involved again for Soundtracks Each Race forged a Ring in Mount Doom 5 Rings are made The Orcs got one of them 4 Rings were destroyed Sauron was a man Gandalf was 600 Years- so we possibly see him as a child (maybe how his talents are recognized) The Wizards found an order in that time Maybe Gollum will show up We can see Saurons broken sword on that poster - was it broken before?

In the US version, there was actually a 5th "superfan" they cut out from most shots after the facts. So, yeah, they absolutely been given instructions what to talk about and the guy somehow didn't stay with the corporate line I guess.

I am german and watched the „Superfans“ Video yesterday. - 5 rings - expecting Aragorn in the series - the fellowship was „chilling“ together - child Gandalf - Hans Zimmer Music - someone pis*ing in goblet - Minas Tirith lies at the sea and has a harbour I am currently looking out for psychological help.

Everything about these “super fans” and their “reactions” is so hideously, outlandishly, and terribly fake. There is no authenticity behind any of this

I love to think that the French bloke just spent nearly the entire interview slagging off the trailer but was the only person who turned up so Amazon had to use what they could.

I understand your attachment. I've been interested in Wheel of Time for probably 27 years, and that show was destroyed. I'd love to see behind the scenes as to what Amazon thinks about the reaction to the Wheel of Time. I'd love to see them try to explain away what I said in my reviews.

Sweet, I had hoped you'd make a video with the context of the translations in the comments added! They probably exerted most control over the English version because most of Hollywood is best versed in English, and they relied on less trained delegates in all the different languages. For choosing the influencers as well as making the trailer.

Great research. I think you are spot on. They couldn't leave anything to chance - they KNEW the backlash that was coming. Made sure to script every moment.

It all seemed so simple. They had books, lore and a loved movie franchise. How and more importantly why gamble a billion dollars on woke politics? It going to get very interesting when they release an actual trailer with meaningful content including actual dialogue from the actors. If something as abstract as the nonsense (in the sense that it actually made no sense whatsoever) they released on Superbowl Sunday can rile Tolkien fans, then heaven knows what something that shows the full extent of the liberties taken will do. I forsee carnage. I forsee Amazon gaslighting true fans with more vigour than ever. Maybe one day Amazon will be sued for whatever appears on 02/09/2022 under the Trade Descriptions Act. I live in hope.

no, they (german ones) are unintentionally clueless. while i got the impression the man on the outer left atleast didnt fall asleep watching the jackson movies, the other two love to talk and interrupt him just to throw up the most ridiculous statements. the woman is almost always spaced out while talking about lore. plus, they use alot of "cool" words, thats why its impossible to translate. they got hired because they have clicks on youtube or elsewhere, neither for knowledge nor for acting.

Not a superfan, have only read LOTR and two towers translated from Tolkiens English (pretty advanced from what I've heard) into old Swedish (got a brain injury from that). And watched the Hobbit trilogy and the extended versions of PJ's lotr trilogy (multiple times). And my only reaction is to these "superfans" is: "I know for a fact this is some Hollywood bullshit they are pulling".... Great content, will come back!

For me it's more, if I was going to go and do something like this for a billion dollar franchise. Learn about it first...

@@disparutoo My pleassure! :) Heard about your channel in another video about a week ago talking about this and looked at one of your earlier breakdown of this trainwreck. I must say, I don't really understand what a "superfan" is. Conseptually it is a no-brainer of course. But who decides who is a superfan or not? It is always someone else that knows more than the other or has picked up on details and such. Absolutely agree. A great example of that is Michael Fassbender who after getting the main role in assasins creed bought and played all the main games that had been released up until that point to understand the lore and the world and what was needed to be convincing in the role.

I know it's been great. RK Outpost has mentioned me in multiple videos which has been awesome, and the Quartering put me in one of his which absolutely blew up the channel and has been mind blowing for the last week.

Love how widespread the Tolkien Fandom is that some managed to slip through this evil's cracks and report back. To Amazon I quote to you the dying words of the Changeling who infiltrated the USS Defiant in Star Trek DS9: "You are too late. We are EVERYWHERE!"

That shot you showed of the bored audience at 2:29 has actually been reversed. The guy with the blue hair has it shaved on a different side & the iPhone cameras are on the wrong side of the phone. Seems like they’ve messed around with the footage in post production too.

I wouldn't be surprised. There was likely cameras on both sides of the audience but wanted all the shots to be from the same side so mirrored the footage. It's a common thing to do in gaming streams because a lot of people like the person to be looking inwards towards the game. I'm fine with mirroring footage as it doesn't really change what you're looking at from an accuracy perspective.

My last Lotr had me going through with google translate, it nailed some bits but VERY broken English. Others have suggested better translaters, but yeah, I have a feeling they would be very funny if you could withstand them.

"horny" is probably indeed a mistranslation, most likely of "geil", which originally meant just that, but turned into slang for "awesome" in the 80s or 90s.

I'm a huge LOTR fan. I have read the Three volumes, the Silmarillion, Lost Tales1 and 2 etc multiple times. I even liked the films. I have Amazon Prime manly because I reread loads of books and it's cheaper for me. However, since seeing the trailers, reveals and the pathetic superfans, I very much doubt that I will sully my vision of Tolkien's work by even bothering to watch this upcoming series.

I'd never expect them to know everything, even if they'd read all the books everyone makes mistakes. I made some slip ups in my Wheel of Time reviews, it's normal. But for a big event like this? I'd have read the books not just a wiki.

I might be totally wrong but I guess that the rest of the french Superfans either got kicked out because of public urinating or couldn't attend the interview because they were way to drunk. Proof me wrong 😆 I consider myself a Tolkien Nerd and no show, however unfaithfull it is, will diminish my appreciation for the stories he told. I'm actually curious, how hard they will f*ck this up.

@@disparutoo Oh, and to clarify the "horny" in the translation -> In Germany we use the word "geil" (lit. 'horny') to express when we consider something to be really awesome. Even though, I wouldn't be surprised if there was some shagging involved. ROFL

Funn fact: somewhere between 6:00 and 6:15 , the "horny" is "geil" in german. It's also another replacement for german translations of great, awesome and so on in the AUSTRIAN accent. It was probably an ironic joke, but it being translated to horny make it even funnier.

It was obviusly an english speaking crew that directed the brits to say what they wanted. with the other foreign speakers they couldn't direct them in the same way.

Its truly astounding that they are using and operating on so much misinformation about a book series.

At :41 the guy in the gear, and in the middle, looks like Dave Attell, a known comedian.

‘It looks like the series will have a female lead’ AND ABOUT TIME I SAY! After all, apart from seemingly _every_ bloody show/film released these days you _never_ see a strong (you go girl, girlboss, the future is female, etc) female lead…. On a slightly less sarcastic note I love how these foam flecked ideologues always press the magic metaphorical reset button to imply that their choice of non white/male lead character is so daring, so defiant, so courageously dangerous…amidst a veritable _surfeit_ of them, in the current year. Pathetic.

Wow when i started viewing you you had only 4.9k subscribers. Now look at you it seems you are getting closer and closer trippling your subscriber count :D

You must have found the channel soon after The Quartering gave me a shout out on his channel, that's what really blew everything up. I had about 2.8k 2 weeks ago before the LOTR stuff. I had just ticked over 4k when The Quartering shouted me out, then that day and the day after gained around 3k a day. It was absolutely crazy. So I've easily tripled in the last 2 weeks which is incredible, humbling and mind blowing all at the same time.

Italian version is surprisingly good compared to these. Of course it is sgilling for Amazon (duh!), but two of the guys are actually competent and capable of doing significant discussion. So it is mostly actually talking about the show and the Silmarillion story and only briefly touching base on identity politics

Yes the translations for the Italian version were all pretty complimentary. Just depends whether they got lucky or if differenr people were in charge of the different language videos and who was picked for them.

I predict a billion dollar dumpster fire.

But the time I heard you got shouted out by these guys was when you, Nerdrotic, The Critical Drinker, and Jeremy from Geeks & Gamers had a debate You talked, at some point, about Jurassic World, if I remember correctly, and at the end, everybody congratulated you for gaining so much subscribers in such a short amount of time So cheers!

I think they’ll have to double down; I believe they’ve already created too much content and would be far too expensive to reshoot all the crap they’d have to cut out

Here is an idea. Scrap it and recast the characters and use the Tolkein estate as your guide. Show probably be delayed another year but the important thing is it's correct

It would take more than a year mate. It would probably take 5 years if not much longer. But yeah I dont like where this ship is sailing. It probably should be scraped but let's face it , it would be a waste of money to just scrap it so that's a no go

I'm guessing the French guy was the most honest of the lot. Looks like Amazon accidentally got themselves an actual Tolkien fan, and had to do a bit of snipping here and there. Oh, and I'm not surprised they had to get those 'superfans' drunk first. I guess it helped.
