Lord Jamar on Bill Cosby Drama: Why Bring It Up 30 Years Later?

Ойын-сауық

www.vladtv.com - Lord Jamar recently sat down with VladTV and shared his thoughts on the recent drama surrounding legendary comedian Bill Cosby and the increasing number of women who have accused him of drugging and/or raping them over the last 30 years.
Jamar admits that he has no idea what the truth is, but finds it odd that these women decided to wait 30 years to speak up. He also feels that society in general is attempting to make black men (especially masculine black men) come off as threatening beasts, citing media depictions of Mike Brown as well as NFL players Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson's recent troubles.
Check out what else Lord Jamar had to say above.

If even one woman brought it forward 30 years ago, he would have been dealt with. The timing and sheer numbers are too convenient. Unless someone brings dna and all that shit, I'm not believing anything that either side says.

I just think if you drug that many women somebody would have had an allergic reaction and have a hospital report on it. There are people that are allergic to alcohol. I'm sure whatever that drug was would have a bad side effect on at least 1. I also find it weird that most of these women took a random pill because they didn't feel good. This sounds a little fishy to me.

Can I keep it real? I use many of the Cosby fathering tactics, with my children, to this day. That show inspired me to be a true and active father in my children's lives. Not just part time but custodial. When I was growing up, a father that lived in the household was the exception not the norm. So seeing people that looked like me and represented my people in a positive way was an inspiration.

I must respectfully disagree with Lord Jamar regarding Cosby v James Evans. I feel Cosby was just as positive to Black men in the hood ( more in my opinion ). As a black man raised in a welfare situation, it was hopeful to see the imagery of a black man as a doctor. I became a lawyer, and Cosby's show helped me believe that it was possible.

+Donald Mapp agreed. I think that's one of the reasons why they created that show as opposed to good times. They wanted to show people that there ARE some black families out there not living paycheck to paycheck and the Huxtables definitely weren't. I don't know why he thought that was for white families and what not. I was very glad they showed that type of black family.

+Donald Mapp There are black folk who live as the Cosby Show presented. The media tends to twist reality, making us view our options as few. I grew up in the projects, but have family that are well off, so I never looked at that show as fantasy. These media outlets are specifically presenting us as being poor, ignorant, etc! The youth of today are being manipulated like a mf. It was not a big issue to me spending time as a kid at my Grandmother's home occasionally. I learned that this proper woman was actually owner of a $1.5,000,000 home. I know both sides of life well, but some will never free themselves from the image that we are painted as. 1.There is an agenda that is going on that's pushing parents out their kids lives, breeding unruly kids who are soft. 2.The media now pushes what these kids take all too seriously and want to emulate. 3.Now we fit what the cop who killed us says we did. These prisons are being built to prophet from the side effects of ACS, plus the media raising these kids to be off the hook! We are fighting against a well oiled plot. Stay positive brother!

+neetrab Agreed. I for one am very happy for the image that The Cosby Show presented. The rest of America needed to see that there ARE Black people that live like this. More importantly , we as Black people needed to see the other side of the coin. No disrespect to Good Times because I believe that it too was needed. That show showed us that you can still hold your head high and set standards for yourself, despite your situation.

The Cosby show was a great influence to Black America. Think about it: A black man who was a doctor that loved his family, his job, his wife, and his kids. The wife was not a stereotypical black mom; she was intelligent successful lawyer. They had five kids TOGETHER and each child became successful . And one went to college which became a spin off - A different world- Bill Cosby create that show. I hate it when people black or white try to make little of the Bill Cosby show. Don't get me wrong I loved Good times too and it did show a standard blk family- no matter how hard life gets, keep your faith, and love ya family. So each shows were a role model to every child Bill Cosby Show- Hey you don't have to live in the ghetto forever. You can achieve something in life with out shaking ya ass or dealing dope. Get an education, find a GOOD women and be married, and RAISE your kids

He had been accused of this stuff publicly in the 90s. Not about drugging women, but definitely about trying to bed women left and right. We live in a time where recording on smartphones are going to capture the words, then the Internet sends it into the echo chamber, so it's hard for people to ignore it like the public did several years ago. Also keep in mind 1) forensic kits were available but not easily available until only a few years ago, 2) he had a lot of money before the Cosby Show (I Spy, comedy tours, etc), and 3) he wasn't living in the Jim Crow south when this happened, so you couldn't just get a few of your white friends to grab him and drag him around everywhere. He was also paying settlements up to 2005, and a few comedians have expressed their feelings on how they saw him at clubs and on film sets trying to snatch up girls. America is in a different place now. I'm not saying they're ALL telling the truth, and I'm not saying they're ALL lying, What I am saying is that given the changing times, and given how painful it can be for a woman to step forward after being raped or assaulted, we shouldn't be as skeptical.

I like Lord Jamar, but The Cosby Show didn't do anything to make it seem like it was all good for all of us. They just wanted to show that it wasn't all bad for all of us. Anyone who thinks The Cosby Show was corny may need to rethink what they think good comedy is. I like Good Times as much as the next guy, but The Cosby Show was a much better and funnier show.

Lord Jamar is right. I remember watching a show on BET hosted by Bev Smith that used to come on in the late eighties and one of her guest was former football great Jim Brown. Bev Smith was asking him questions about Richard Pryor & then she asked Jim you know Bill Cosby right? He answered Yes. Cosby has a dark side. Bev didn't pushed Jim on what did he mean a dark side. But like Lord Jamar said, "This happened since the sixties, why all of this is coming out now?" And that a good question and I think I know the answer, Hollywood or the people in show business knew this shit for a long time & Jim Brown proved it in that interview back in the late eighties. I think they hold it until the right moment to get his ass. I also don't know if it was rape or Bill was just fucking around with women until shit got sour or using these women a.k.a. The Casting Couch. Who knows but yeah this went on for 30 years and not a peep? Yeah Hollywood/ Show Business World knew Bill wasn't clean cut as he was presented by Hollywood itself.

Jamar dear, your jackassed'ness hurts my ears. How the hell is someone stepping on your shoes comparable to rape and/or sexual assault. Many women and men have been molested by family members and never told one soul. It does not change the fact that inappropriate actions occurred. Many of us (women) have lived in silence about being raped or sexually assaulted by people that we know. Rape is usually a secret and an act committed by a person that is familiar with the victim. Why is this so difficult to believe. Then, what really irks me is that men with living mothers are defending Bill. What if their mother told them that 40 years ago, Bill raped her. I wonder if they would be on their mother's side or on Bill's side because well...he's an entertainer. Is Bill exempt from committing a crime because he is a comedian/actor. This man did not even graduate from high school. Yet, he got people defending his character.

We're focusing on it now because Hannibal Buress brought it up (not any of the women). He did so because he believed Cosby to be a hypocrite with his lectures to the black community without coming clean with his own drama. Had this been 20 years ago, Buress' words wouldn't have gone very far (as evidenced by People Magazine writing about it in, I think, 1994 and then crickets) simply because viral videos, 24-hour news cycles, unrestrained blogging and social media didn't exist. Today, as opposed to 20-30 years ago, the story has taken on a life of its own. Once upon a time, Cosby had more control over his image. He could wield his power to shut stories down (like he did by agreeing to an interview with the Enquirer in 2006 in lieu of them publishing a story about this...or even when he paid off one of his accusers and stifled others who were set to testify at her court proceeding). Today, he can't shut the Internet down and there are no civil suits for him to pay off again, so here we are discussing it. Again, it bears repeating, Hannibal Buress brought it up again, NOT Cosby's accusers. (Editing to add that the People Magazine article was in 2006, not 1994. Also, as for any sort of present-day conspiracy against Cosby, someone at the helm of that conspiracy would have had to have started orchestrating it some 10 years ago when allegations first started to surface.)

Loads of people started coming forward about his kiddy fiddling like 30 years after the incidents, soon after he was deceased.. worst thing is tho that he was a national treasure and the BBC in UK (which mainly broadcast him) always had a suspicion about him, plus he was well connected with the royal family.. now that's fucked up!
