Lord Jamar: Light-Skinned Woman Are Placed on a Pedestal

www.vladtv.com - Lord Jamar sat down with VladTV to share his opinion on Tank recently tweeting that he doesn't understand the resentment dark-skinned women hold for light-skinned women, with Jamar saying that black women with light skin have been put on a pedestal above darker women, just like white women are considered superior to all black women. When a darker woman sees a man she considers to be attractive with a lighter woman, it in a way validates those feelings and builds resentment, especially if there's a pattern seen where he exclusively dates light-skinned women.
Hear Lord Jamar's reasoning above.

As a light-skinned woman, I've had Black men approach me and comment on my skin color/ask if I'm mixed. If a Black man says anything about me being light-skinned or says something negative about darkskinned women, it's over immediately. Color-struck Black men need to wake tf up. The world is laughing at you. You've been so easily manipulated it's pathetic. Some of the most beautiful women I've ever seen have been darkskinned.

The way Tank worded his comment on twitter immediately made the dark skin black woman the issue, the dark skin girl the problem and once again the light skin girl made to appear as a victim when in reality we are all victims as black people to this mental enslavement of our own selves. #willielynchsyndrome at its best. Its sad, and being a chocolate woman I know 1st hand how it feels to be in the midst of it all. I've heard "you are so pretty to be dark skin" all my life, smh.

There was a dark skinned chocolate brother at my job and he had a light skinned mixed friend(which is my friend too) They told me how they met two girls and the light skinned brother told the dark skinned guy that he thought that the darker toned girl was really bad and pretty. So then the dark skin guy was like "I don't date dark skin girls." I was in shocked. Then he looked at me and said your the darkest I would I go. And the light skinned guy was like "man you crazy she was fine." So this guy at my job didn't want to date this girl all based off the color of her skin and she was a pretty girl too. But these dude blacker than Ace of Spades. So you really can't defend some people saying that they aren't prejudice to there own people. I didn't make this shit up. It's reality.

These comments are why our race gets little to no respect. Black men in the comment section are calling their own features ugly. No other race of people does this. Studies show that most people are attracted to people with similar features to them. But for some reason SOME (not all) black men hate women that look like them. I understand that some people have preferences but their is a difference between having a preference and going out of your way to make a certain group of people feel ugly. I'm a light skin female and I have no problem with a man saying he likes light skin women. But I can't date a man that hates dark skin women because my sister is dark skin. I hope you guys that leave rude comments realize that most light skin women have dark skin female family members and we don't like it when you disrespect them.

This is a tough subject for the black community because black men won't admit to putting light skin women on a pedestal but a lot of black men do especially dark skin men. To only find a person attractive for their skin complexion is crazy. Your skin color doesn't determine if you're ugly or cute, but I do notice just because a woman is light skin to some men she is automatically attractive just by being light skin.

You're right sister and I'll admit it as a black man who's always been into light skin chicks from early. For whatever reason, dark skin girls as a kid wouldn't fuck with me cus I wasn't the best athlete, didn't rock the flyest gear or didn't go to the coolest jams. I just figured: fuck it, if that's the case I'll just rock with whoever rocks wit me and it just so happened that every other complexion of chicks did (can't explain it if I'm being honest). Worked hard, always had good grades, went to college and now have a very good job but I've noticed NOW that i'm established, dark skinned chicks want to holler.. I'm cool with everybody (blacks, jews, muslims, w/e) but i'm just not into dark skin chicks no more, unless as many brothers point out, they look like a Keri Hilson, Meagan Good etc (and they prolly just want to date, again, rich ball players, rappers, etc). It's a tough topic for sure and I don't have the answers, just keeping it 100

So its up to you to say who MEN (youre a woman, right?) should find attractive and what & what isn't attractive to US? Okay, stop liking RICH men (women in general)! But that's not the world is it? The difference is that thats material vs part of someones look. I can date all lightskinned women if i want..fuck i need to worry about some other peoples opinion about it? So its slave mentality when its a lightskinned woman but not someone who dates strictly dark skinned woman? Thats okay i guess? Had it been the other way around those same chicks wouldnt be complaining. It just steems from lack of attention which women genereally need ALOT of - but then they complain when they do get it too though lol.

Tabitha Harris Stop acting like you dark skin women don't do that too. Dark skin women are notorious for favouring light skin men over dark skin men. Even J Cole mentioned himself that he got a lot attention from girls because of his light complexion, and even went as far as to say he might not be where he is today if he had dark skin. Stop the blame game/shaming tactics and let's actually discuss the root cause for this epidemic.

Especially those with that beautiful, silky-smooth skin that looks like it was painted on by an artist. Just doesn't get any better. And if she's smelling good with a smart, sophisticated speech about her, I find them damn-near irresistible. Maybe that's why I married one... Couldn't be happier, but I can appreciate the look of all races of women, unbiasedly. A lot of men can't do that.

So if brothas date lighter girls = slave mentality, an issue etc etc, for brothas who date darker girls = oh my god hes a real man, real black man.. Wtf is that? How about the amount of light skinned people who get shitted on for not being "black enough" based off their apperance?

I don't get caught up in the different mentalities and stereotypes. I could care less what people think about me or how I'm viewed. I go for what I like only, and what I like only. I'd date a light-skin sister I'd the time & opportunity presented itself. I just happen to "prefer" darker skinned women. I've dated Caucasian, women, Asian, Hispanic...and respected them all the same.

Everything said in the interview is spot on. People are in the comments defending why they like light women and "light girls never talk bad about dark girls but dark girls talk about light girl" FYI one reason you probably "never hear a light skin girl talk badly" about dark girls is because a dark skin man will interrupt the light girl and speak on her behalf and talk down on dark girls. there are are women who do the same as some of these men but it's a smaller percentage. Last study I read was 4-5% of black women date outside their race. Us Black men date outside of our race WAY more then them. Out here looking to have lighter kids. instead of just finding someone you like we're out here looking for someone lighter than us. It's sad. We have to do better. As a dark skinned black man, we have trained ourselves to be attracted to what is more European in our race. The less money you came from tends to reflect this even more. In the hood it is commonplace to hear someone you admire brag about getting "white bread". Here's why I say we trained ourselves, When I was growing up I had about 2 bad experiences with whites women at age 10. From that point on I saw beauty in all races but I never found myself attracted to white women again. I trained myself. The same goes for my own race. I trained myself to see a pretty face before I see skin. In college everyone pointed out that I went after dark skin women exclusively, or so they thought. But I was going for the women I found most attractive and with such an abundance of black women, I chose what I thought was the cream of the crop even when it wasn't a dark skin women. Funny thing was that the non-darkskin women would reciprocate my attraction but the really attractive dark skin women only responded to light skin or white men. Some even went as far as to try and alienate me as if they were too good. So that was an odd thing for me to see. So backwards on both sides. We definitely have some work to do because we have quietly accepted the American Caste system.

I broaden my options to men of other races that adore black women period or women period. If a black dude is attracted to me for the right reasons I’d be open. But I’m not about the bitter or mad. I ain’t got time cause at the end of the day people gonna be with who they want to be. My thing is don’t come running to your dark skin black woman or black woman if you got burnt. I don't think anyone is hating on black males just because they are dating light skinned females. That's is not the problem. You don't HAVE to date someone from your race. It's not an obligation. The actual problem is when people feel the need to put down ALL the others that are darker just because they found someone they like who has light skin. It is stupid to generalize like that. You like who you like but it should never be because of their SKIN. It's so sad to see someone put down the people from their OWN race who look just like them because they praise those that are lighter.

As a Beautiful Dark skinned woman, I've always had someone say something to the tune of "your very pretty to be dark skinned"! smh what's sad is our men give us complexes by making such idiotic statements such as the one stated above. Some people would say it was a compliment but for me I honestly believe it's a shaded shady comment which renders one to believe if your dark there is no way you can be pretty! smh people especially our people- because white people don’t have the nerve to make statements like that especially not to our faces, need to understand black women especially darker complected women are at the lower spectrum of the totem pole when it comes to what a lot of men consider as beauty which only really tells me we truly dont love ourselves if we do not love the original colors we all were derived from. Which is sad because I’ve seen BEUATFUL DARK WOMEN bleach their skin because of our counter parts rejected their complexion for lighter sisters. I just want to say to all the men and women out there that Dark-shame our darker sisters and brothers shame on you and l will continue to pray for you because obliviously you are whitewashed because of the society we live in and it's perception of True Beauty. Don’t get me wrong Light skinned women are Beautiful in their own right, but honey child their beauty stem from the beauty of the darkest coal which is the Dark skinned woman NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND!

Fair warning! This is a long post!! 😶😶😛 So Prince Damian posed a good question which was do light skin girls get mad when they see a man with only dark-skinned girls and if not, then why not? I wonder the same thing for light skin guys as well when it comes to light girls with dark-skinned guys. Dark skinned guys now get a lot of attention and white girls with black features get a ton of attention as well. Our Kim K's and the like. Personally I realize there are preferences, but I believe tides can turn. Nothing stays the same forever. I think Tank was wrong for this. He literally stood in the crosshairs of the gun with that comment. I'd just say to dark-skinned women: Keep your options open. Try to stay focused on finding what you want. Ignore the guys chasing light-skinned women if that pisses you off. Try not to dwell on the unfairness of the world or the negativity. You can only live your life and focus on uplifting your spirit, staying sexy and shining inside and out. The other thing I'd add is the one thing you can learn from a man (black or not) is that they keep their options open and make decisions based on their needs. The loyalty in the black race when it comes to dating is a little forced at times. A black man may gladly want to date a white woman. I won't stop him. But if guys of other races ask me out, I will go on a date bc why not? It's just a date, two ppl getting to know each other and it could turn into something positive. So sometimes take that date you are unsure about as well as trying to find your ideal date. Dating success is partly a numbers game and based on compatibility and chemistry, and race is just one way to be compatible to someone. We see how men pick and choose. Sometimes u have to push yourself outside your ideal, evn if its choosing amongst dif types of Blk men, because we know, sometimes, the shy guys get no attention. I like to keep a few rotating in the stable lmao bcuz you just never know who will rise to the top and prove to be the winner. 🏇🏇🏇🏆🏆🏆

Let me spit the straight truth. White women and light skin women are the most beautiful. This was mindset growing up. The black girls that I liked didn't give me the time of day because I wasn't sagging, gold teeth etc. I know now that my situations molded what I thought was beautiful due to how they treated me. Small features with light skin are seen as sexy. So we as men are subliminal drawn to it. Dark skin girls have resentment for the system because it isn't fair. I grew up beyond this stereotype by giving all girls a chance. I find myself more attracted to dark skin women by not allowing society to tell me what beauty is but allowing my interaction with a woman dictate what beauty is. Every race has beautiful women, dark, light, big, small. It should come down to the chemistry you have with her. Somewhere, someone believes you are the most beautiful thing on this earth, keep that in mind.

This coming from a dark skinned woman. Preference does play a part. You can't be mad. To me its just an insecurity. Not every black woman thinks like that. It's not fair to black men that they catch all this hate. If he prefers light skinned women, then so be it. Who cares. I think it has a lot to do with wanting what doesn't want you. Random, but if they were able to grow long hair, they wouldn't have a worry in the world. If a brotha dates out of his race, the first group of people to comment are dark skinned women. Why would it even bother somebody? You need to interview my cousin Tommy Sotomayor. He'll have this channel flipped the fk out. If sistas had my state of mind, things would be a lot better.

Miss me with the "why watch if you don't care" comment. I hate this topic because in 2014 nobody should put anybody on pedestal for superficial reasons like skin complexion or hair texture. It should be based of a person's character. People miss out on a lot looking at the exterior and not the interior. And who's feeling's did I down??? I'm talking about me if you feel some type of way that's on you maybe you have some hang up on the topic...

Clearly you didn't read what I said the first (and second time) or maybe your comprehension skills are lacking either way my initial point was I DON'T CARE about what no guy likes concerning MYSELF. If a male prefers something I'm not that's not my issue. No one is ever going to please everyone so why get upset about it? If Jamar likes lighter women so what??? There are so many other men that like darker skin women. Who cares move on with your life! Some women don't like short guys or fat guys but do you see men crying over it? They find someone who likes them for them. I never said you couldn't respond to my comments nor did I tell you not to feel the way you feel! You obviously do have a hang up on the topic as in the subject bothers you not you should drop the subject and get over you feelings. Your responses clearly show you have no comprehension skills to digest what you have read because you put things in your last comment that have no relevance to what I said in my initial and last comment!

I would say preference plays a large role in this issue, but I think that many people's preference is definitely influenced heavily by the media. I'm willing to bet everything that if the trend changed; and tomorrow dark skin women were the ones glorified and "placed on a pedestal" above light skinned women. That the attitudes of some of these dudes would change. Let's not flex...I hate to compare women to shoes but if Jordan's became played out and weren't popular anymore, and everyone started wearing Saucony's or some shit again, how many of y'all would stand outside a store for hours and still spend $200+ them? Right..... Everyone has their preference. And beauty/attractiveness is subjective. (meaning it's based on personal perception and not statistical facts) But don't act like it's a scientific fact that based on skin complexion alone, people are more attractive than other people who are lighter/darker skinned. We all just need to love ourselves for how we look, and those who don't love us for who we are aren't worth the time anyway.

If you prefer a certain race because you find their physical features more attractive, and/or you relate to them more on a cultural/personal level than you do your own race, that's whatever. Fetishism is real, though. If you want an Asian girlfriend because they're "submissive" and "exotic", or you're a man of color who exclusively dates white women because they're a status symbol...you're kind of a piece of shit. You have a right to be a piece of shit, but I have a right to call you one.

Light skin looks more feminine. Bottom line. Which is why dark skinned black men are seen as more masculine looking (and often more attractive) than light skinned black guys (save that period in the early 80's when Prince and El Debarge etc were in vogue). Light skinned black guys have a rep now as being 'soft' or 'sensitive' etc...traditionally female traits. I'd even go so far as saying that's one of the (possibly main) reasons why a lot of people still don't seem to want to accept the recent NBA dominance of Steph Curry-his light skin makes them question his deservedness of being the alpha 'male' of the league. Granted light skinned black guys have never been as neglected by the opposite sex as dark skinned black women but I mention them to illustrate how to most people light skin is perceived as softer (i.e. feminine) and darker skin as stronger (i.e. masculine). Most men want a feminine looking woman. All this 'the white man brainwashed us to think lighter is better' shit has some
