Late 30s, small town farm boy that's been living a gypsy life for about 20 years. Chasing something I don't need or even care about. Left a lot of loving good hearted women. I find myself single, poor with a healthy drinking habit and a mildly successful career as an engineer. This song hits me unlike anything I have ever heard. Bravo. I look back at my friends that stayed home and built a family with envy.

"Twenty Long Years" I've a tale or two to tell you But the booze just makes me slow I could rack my brain remembering But I guess maybe I'll just go There's a method to my madness There's a secret to this town There's a reason why I'm still living here Though I can't think of it right now I made a promise when I left for the coast, twenty long years ago I made a life out of chasing a ghost, twenty years takes its toll I got along for a while, I guess, but it took everything I had I gotta find a way out of this mess, I'm in trouble and it sure looks bad I've a thought or two to share with you But the dope tends to cloud my mind I destroyed my health searching for myself But there ain't nothing there to find There's a debt or two I owe you But the gambling left me poor I put up my name in the sacred game And forgot what I was playing for I made a promise when I left for the coast, twenty long years ago I made a life out of chasing a ghost, twenty years takes its toll I got along for a while, I guess, but it took everything I had I gotta find a way out of this mess, I'm in trouble and it sure looks bad I gotta find a way out of this mess, I'm in trouble and it sure looks bad I gotta find a way out of this mess, I went looking and it drove me mad I gotta find a way out of this mess, I'm in trouble and it sure looks bad I gotta find a way out of this mess, I ain't never seen you look so sad, yeah

Have cried every time listing to this wonderful song. Bravo Lord Huron ! If I may upon you ladies and gentlemen, would you be so kind as to keep me in your prayers ? What with all the current difficulty within my family, such as my Father and Mother, after 30 years of marriage, proclaiming their very acrimonious separation, my brother suffering from suicidal depression and my exams, I feel myself spiralling back down into my old bad habits of overwork, insomnia and self harm. Everything seems rather bleak. I am sorry, I do not mean to ramble. Safe to say, in the words of this song 'I gotta find a way out of this mess'.

I really love this song, and I can truly relate to the message of it. I spent four years on Discord, and a few other social media outlets, and in all that time I've been and seen quite a lot. What truly hurts though is that as depressing as it is to look back at your life and tell people what stories you have, that one of the few things that feels even more lonely is when you're in a room, or in my scenario a site, full of people and few people if anyone there has anything to even do with you. Something that feels as weird if not weirder is when the few people that do have anything to do with you comes to talk to you, and yet somehow you still feel lonely.

I never tried to share with anyone UNTIL my OG Love came to apologize after 17+ years, and we ended up hitting off AGAIN, same intensity at the end of May. I shared Love Me Like You Used To with him about a month or so ago. I ugly cry and ugly sing to LH, for seven or so years now. Never realized why or for whom, because it definitely was not anyone else. Super weird...and he liked it. Someone is gonna make you wanna share one day, and they'll like it, too. 💜

And he had still been drinking (which is why he never came back, one of the many reason. I showed him this song. Told him how much it reminded me of him. I left that morning, a week later he killed himself….it hurts, but, in a different way. This song makes me happy, that I had a memory with him at all.
