Loose Ink and Watercolor Sketching Basics | Real time sketching tutorial
I got many requests for a beginner friendly tutorial, so for this video, I picked a relatively easy one and teach you all the basics you need to know about sketching loosely with watercolors and ink. Many of you also voted for a real-time tutorial in my last poll, so this video is much longer than usual, however, you can always adjust the playback speed or do each chapter in your own time. Happy sketching!

I prefer longer, real time videos. I think I'm in the minority though, sadly. I love watching them once when I'm relaxing and then again when I paint my own stuff. My daughter is on the spectrum, I homeschool, and I have multiple chronic and painful health problems. Longer videos are the way I'm able to just relax. Sped up videos or videos that skip all over the place end up losing my attention haha. I watched this at 1.25x speed and it was perfect! Thank you!

I just read your post, while I’m trying to relax lying on my couch. I also have chronic pain and multiple health problems. Mine are from autoimmune diseases. I, too, homeschooled. My kids are grownup and gone now. Thinking of you and hoping you’re doing well. God bless you🙏🏻❤️

There’s really not enough real time watercolor videos! This is perfect for me to paint alongside you, with commentary that isn’t overbearing or music that is too distracting. Perfect! Thanks for the video! 😊

Diego Loyo Hernandez there's hundreds on you tube!! I watch all day
"Draw what you see, not what you know." Wise words that my teacher said, a while back. I'm studying pedagogy, and chose arts and crafts studies this semester. I've been drawing and painting for years, but these words were an overdue reminder to me. Glad to hear it from you too! You paint so well, I aspire to paint like this.
I like the long videos too! It was especially helpful for me to see how lightly your original "drawing" by watercolor was in comparison to the final painting, which was considerably darker. Thank you very much for both the drawing by watercolor base layer and the detailed video to completion.
I prefer the real time video as well😊 thank you very much for these amazing videos ❤
the blank piece of paper fear is so real! i also have it...and this trick/tip to loosely color the sketch and basically getting an idea of what to even draw and how to , this really helped me out alot. huge thanks to u and this video.
As someone just starting out, it's great to have videos that show *all* the steps like this.
I love your longer videos with the sketching process and then ink and watercolor. It’s so relaxing and helpful.
I feel very relaxed watching your video. Your paintings are really wonderful. 🥰
I love the hour-long, real -time videos. I hope you make many more of them.
Thanks for the tutorials. I love how you teach it and in real time. Marvelous!
This is just brilliant. Please do lots more of these. So helpful.
I have been painting with oils for many years and just started learning watercolors. I just love your work and have had your videos on repeat for inspiration. Thank you!!!
I love this, because it really walks you through how do to this so that you can apply it to every other watercolor city studies you may do.
I love the painting and watching the full process!!!
Wonderful - many thanks for doing a real-time video. It is so helpful and I love your style.
Thank you very much for this tutoriel! So inspiring and so helpful! I've loved painting with you ❤
So beautiful and mesmerizing! I just followed your channel & I also ordered a few watercolor painting stuff so I can get back to drawing again. Thanks a ton for being inspiring and helpful
What a fabulous painting. I loved the real time watercolor videos. So helpful and encouraging!
I'm so gonna try the first one! I love doodling like that ❤
This real time video was great. I like how you talk us through your thought process. While actually doing it. Thank you!
This is how I approach my acrylic paintings and other art. I take my time, but at the same time try not to think about everything not being perfect. This gives my art character, makes it mine. Anyone can draw a perfect straight line or go to art school and learn great technique. It's the flowing movements in our hands that create true art.
Such a nice idea to combine water color and the ink pen! Love the style it gives and the outcome. I could also imagine using fountain pens with e.g acrylic ink, for some variety or calligraphic vibe. Thank you for making it real time, to follow along :)
Awesome! I love these real time videos also! I’m glad I found you!!
So rare to find real time ones. Thank you so much for this. Love your technique ❤
I always get inspired and motivated to learn loose sketching after watching your videos.
It's been a long time since I wanted to start learning watercolor and your realtime video really motivated me thanks a lot, I would really appreciate more !!!!
I'm so happy you decided to make this video! I can definitely see why it won the poll, and I hope you'll make more real time sketching videos in the future. Your commentary/voice over was really helpful in reminding myself to get out of my head. I've just started watercolor painting (for the first time since I was a kid) and I'm really excited to try this piece and see what my loose sketch style is as a beginner.

Thank you for this I'm going to rewatch and paint along with you. 😊
so helpful, thank you for the inspiration. please more real time videos I would appreciate that quite alot!
First of all I love your soft voice it's very calming to listen to while I watch!!! I am a beginner and needed to see how to use marker with a watercolour and really enjoyed seeing the way you did it. Eventually I will learn all the nuances of how paint works but for now you've given me a wonderful start.
is amazing the art process with shapes creating that reality that house.shadows and the lights colors pure creative
Very well done....my kids and I Love watching you turn what looks like a mess into something Beautiful!!
i really love your videos!!
Thank you! I've tried to make the same, but I've messed up at the very beginning, and wanted to give up after the first layer of watercolour. But than I've thought "what the heck, I've already failed, let's see where it will go" and at the end it turns out much better than I've hoped after the first fail. Of course, nobody will ever guess, that my drawing has anything to do with the reference, and it has a lot of mistakes and absolutely crazy and unnatural perpective, but I am happy with the final result. I am not an artist, and this result is pretty good to me, and what is more important - my fear of failing is not so strong now. Thank you once again!

That’s great! Yes, since it is already “failed”, you might as well keep going and try your best to finish it. That way you will learn much more!❤️💪
I’ve really enjoyed watching this lovely sketch emerge and hearing your commentary as it progressed. So much talent.

Thank you for this super cozy and educational video. I like how you add your comments on top of the finished video, but still leave empty audio spaces. Your voice is so soothing to listen too 😍
I enjoyed the long video, you have a wonderful voice for commentary it is soothing. I am glad you said what you did about black. I painted movie sets for many years and we mostly only used black when we did a set that was supposed to have been on fire. In nature you don't find black very often and when you do it mostly is because a fire or on and animal.
Your watercolour videos are always so incredible! It has really inspired me to try out a new style of watercolour painting. Thank you for all the tips! I hope you continue to create amazing videos like these! ❤️

I always prefer your real time stuff. outstanding. Narration is great and always helpful. .
Was doing this for a bit before realising I was using acrylic... it came out a bit dark but I still think it turned out okay! Thank you fort the tutorial!
This is beautiful ❤ I love watching these videos because they calm my soul and hearing your voice makes me happy. I usually have these in in the background however this time i watched your video with my full attention. Loose lines and plants calm me so this was perfect! I do struggle with trying to draw without perfect lines, so do you have any tips?

I thoroughly enjoyed this video. It was not too long for me. Because of the way you presented it, I was able to see all the complexities unfold as well as the later touches you made to the sketch. I will watch it again. Your narrative was so helpful to see what your thinking was about how you made changes and the reason for those changes. Thank you!! I also enjoyed the music. Glad that you list your resources and supplies which allows me to check them out and purchase what I liked for myself. That is so helpful. I am wondering where you got the porcelain palette? I liked the way it was divided.
