Loose Article Policies Need To Change at Major Amusement Parks!

Safety regulations are often written in blood, and enough blood has been spilt at amusement parks over loose articles. It is time for major parks to ban phones, keys, wallets, ect on guests entering lines for major attractions. Every passholder and ticketed guest should be provided a locker, free of any extra charge, and movable, for their valuables going forward. This follows a grisly accident where a guest hopped the fence to Banshee at Kings Island and got struck by the train while trying to find his car keys.

Great idea!! It seems that just having signs aren't enough. And not having to pay for a locker each time would [hopefully] deter those who feel inconvenienced from ignoring those rules. Those who are on the rides when these things happen have mental scars forever as well, and someone other than the parties witness to these horrific events need to be made aware of how dangerous this has gotten, and how bold and "safe" people think they are. One vid about this alleged that the man was warned not to go through, entered through an employee door, and was struck. If this is so, ALL DOORS ACCESSING THE RESTRICTED AREAS OF THE RIDE NEED TO BE LOCKED DURING OPERATION.(emphasized only.) Regardless, those employees have to deal with that for the rest of their lives as well. Its a loss for all involved.

They do need to change. Small hip/waist bags that attach to your belt and are fine in extreme motorsports on motorcycles and high speeds should be allowed on roller coasters so that we women don't have to remove our belts every ride and risk not being able to ride home if some foreigner steals our bag with our phone and keys in it.

I do too, and have never lost anything; I just can't expect every guest to walk into the park with zipped pockets. People are more concerned with fashion rather than function. I see people walking around at parks all the time with flip flops and clothes not suitable for the occasion.

Steel Force at Dorney Park has a unique bin system with shelves that coincide with which train you are riding. A shelf for the red train, one for the blue train, and one for the black train, and most of the time Steel Force is two train ops. Once the guests put their belongings on the shelf that coincides with their train, the ride attendants slides the door that is covering the train that is approaching the final brakes, to the train that is about to leave the station. As someone who worked at Six Flags New England last season as a ride operator while I was attending technical school in the area, I can tell you how many times people still lost their phones due to them being so dumb enough to take it out after the train has left the station, thinking that the operators and attendants wouldn't notice. I can stress enough of how the security team must have felt overwhelmed of getting reports from ops saying that guests were taking phones out mid ride or jumping the fences to retrieve lost items. One such case last year at that same park while I was attending as a guest, when I was about to get in line for Wicked Cyclone they had to shut the ride down due to someone jumping the fence to retrieve a season pass card, YES, A SEASON PASS CARD WHILE YOU CAN ALSO HAVE IT ON YOUR PHONE, like, you had to shut the ride down just for a card for your season pass which you can have through your phone.

do you know where you do NOT HEAR about lose articles? Island's of Adventure and Universal Studios!. Cedar Fair needs to adopt this 1- lockers need to be free and large enough to hold Fannie packs, cell phones and keys for riders. 2- this needs to be enforced by a ride attendant Once people know what to expect with no loose articles, they will abide and honestly, i didn't miss the articles while waiting. Furthermore, the one thing i have always been afraid of losing, my keys, i have never actually had happen but would be horrified to experience. It's all preventable and the park owes it to guests to make this easy and free to do.

Yukon Striker has the perfect solution, I hear. I was talking about a moveable bin, that corresponds with the trains. Its there right before you load to put your stuff in just before you board, then it rotates so no one can get to your stuff, and it allows for the next train. Then its on the exit side of the platform when you pull back in so you can grab your stuff. The person said "oh so just like Yukon Striker?" Its perfect. You carry everything up on the platform with you, and you dont ride with anything, knowing that no one will have access to it until your train comes back to the station.

Though in line lockers can work well, it requires a very elaborate system with lots of employees and can be implemented extremely poorly, as in the case of steel vengeance. I like the idea of out of line queue lockers, without strict timers, so one can marathon a ride without going to them after each ride. I would just give the attendants at ride entrances wands, tell them to shout instructions about using lockers when people are approaching, and throw out anyone not following the policy. That seems simpler to me. As for BGT, last time I visited, a phone flew out of someone's pocket and hit the side of the train not even 2 feet from where I was sitting. I just don't care for the pouch system. Cedar Point tried it on Steel Vengeance with hand stamps to mark guests that needed to use them. It was slow as all hell.

ive got an upcoming trip to a local park planned and went to a store recently with my wife to hunt for a fanny pack. when i went to this park as a kid and even the local area zoo i remember we would always get these in the 80s as a safer way to hold our items. and now with the advent of having car keys and cell phones they seem even more important for a day out to an amusement park. and a fanny pack is cheaper and easier to wear than hunting for pants with zipper pockets in husky sizes. and i say this as im at the physical size where i may fit on a decent amount of rides but pants with zippers would be hard to find. personally i think the parks could make a killing selling themed fanny packs right at the front entrance. advertise them as "keep your items safe and have a wearable souvenier." if the park im going to has them i may buy one there as an extra. plus side if they make them water proof.

All fine and dandy, but how many times have you seen another persons phone fly past you? How many times do you see idiots taking selfies and recording their rides? So far this year, I have seen phones out on Diamondback twice, Maverick, and Iron Gwazi. In the case of Iron Gwazi, the phone flew out and struck the side of the train 2 feet away from me. I could have been hit in the face. Nobody deserves to be injured as a result of somebody else's stupidity.

I think its just preference at this point regarding in queue or outside queue lockers. I have been on Velocicoaster a few times and never had any problems with their system. It is space consuming, but that is something parks can work out if they choose. Great Adventure's system, and TT2 (minus the paid locker debacle regarding both) seems to work well. I just do not like Steel Vengeance's system with the traffic jam at metal detection and the dispatches with empty rows. Should certainly be incorporated into the ticket price though.

I assume you are talking about Six Flags Flash Pass. Yeah, that is a dumb way to do it and they should just issue wristbands like the Cedar Fair Fast lanes. We have all lost track of time at some point and that sucks about missing the locker time by a single min. I assume they do that because of the limited number of lockers, and that there would be plenty of them sitting there empty if they all had an all day rental on them. They want you to move around and use the different locker stations. It is a flaw for those of us who like to sit in one place and marathon a ride.

Even one death is one too many so yes the policies need to change. People are bringing way too many unnecessary belongings into the park's than in decades past ...items like cellphones for example which we DIDN'T HAVE just three short decades ago or unsecured keys (without a Keychain to securely keep them in place) and a ton of other stuff that should just be stored in one's car while inside the park.
