Fools... always tighten until one quarter turn before breaking.

That tensioner is a sweet design. Millions of dollars in RnD at corporate level beaten by a frustrated end user in a machine shop. I love it.

I think that for me starting it on the spray would give me a boost to help get through the fiddly and time consuming task of rebuilding the carbs, at least now we know that it's definately worth all the effort, imagine spending hours rebuilding 4 carbs and then finding there is some major problem that got missed.

I LOVE your calm, ultra-methodical approach. You can see why lots of projects never happen; it's your approach that gets success. I can't wait for part three; I'm 72, so don't leave it too long!

Curious, I know about your very stringent inspections for automobiles (Rolling road, all the tests, etc). But what about for motorcycles? Do they have to pass a similar inspection?

I've worked with editors for over 30 years and this talent is nearly as rare as a beautifully restored 1985 Fiero. I don't really care about this bike (not my style), but I absolutely love the journey. Well done. I'm all in.

A cylinder with oil in it will have better compression than a dry one, that mystery oil probably gave you better results than your engine probably has

My favorite part was the "Remember!" voice over and creepy staring footage!! When it went back to the build like nothing happened I nearly spit out my pan-galactic gargle blaster.

I love the series! Fixing up neglected bikes like this is so satisfying. Just a tip, you no longer need to use anti-seize on spark plugs. Modern plugs have a coating and they recommend against anti-seize. I've always used it in the past as well.

This is excellent lockdown isolation viewing. I was 12 years old when this bike hit the market and remember the impact of it's child "The King" ZZR1100. Great production, I marvel at your mechanical nous whilst being so young and cant believe you took on such a mammoth task. I like your "percussive maintenance" on the horn and you are very easy to listen to (a complete absence of ego). Bravo, carry on!

I have YET to find a KZreadr/KZread series as captivating. I hate that the videos are spaced so far apart, yet am glad we aren’t given the instant gratification of seeing the Fiero or this bike in just a couple of sped up videos. You’re the GOAT Mr. Finger!

The first fire of an engine that hasn’t ram in several years is one of the best feelings ever in my opinion. I stumbled across your channel during the fire build and now I’m stuck. I drag home random junk tinker on it dump a bunch of money into is and ultimately get bored and sell said junk for almost nothing lol.

More excited about this than I was for the Fiero . I’m in the process of building/modifying my own bike right now .

Oh man, you triggered my electrical anxiety. The many hours and days of tracing faults in 80`s bike looms and switchgear! Reams of electrical tape, gallons of contact cleaner and WD40, RSI from crimping pliers LOL. Great video though, waiting (anxiously) for part 3.

Love seeing the troubleshooting process! Excited for the next episode!

What I like is that you like to fix it correctly

I bought a brand new GPZ1000 RX in 1986. It was a good bike, but as you mentioned in part 1, not as good as the 900. Regarding the extremely snug fit of the battery, and the difficulty of getting it back out again, here's what I did. Take the battery out. lay a length of plastic packing tape into the battery box. put the battery back in and cut the tape so that you have enough to make a handle. Superglue the two ends together, and away you go! I hope you find this helpful. As regards the exhaust, a firm by the name of JAMA used to do a full replica system. Looking forward to part 3! A matching bike to the fiero is awesome and that end is to see if its even worth to keep going.. and it is.. she cranked over and blasted some life!

And this is bum basic, compared to the latest bikes, i love working on 80s Japanese bikes because they are so simple compared to new ones. :-)

I loved my '94 GPZ1100 so I'm rooting for you. It was an awesome bike, smoothest engine of any bike I've ever owned, very capable and more than fast enough to scare the shiite out of me. I wish the manufacturers still made ST's like the GPZ1100.

I don’t know much about bikes nor am I very interested in them BUT I just love watching anything this guy makes working on motors it’s just so satisfying

I do kinda wish it'd be a full restoration, maybe that can come later.

I think everyone who watched your Fiero series knew you were going to try some starter fluid. Nicely done.

Your series is like watching a real time version of Boyhood for the technically inclined, watching your diagnostic skills improve is part of the attraction . We are all lucky to have the internet as a resource to reduce our learning curve.

Love your stuff. From pulling that POS Fiero out of the muck and making her shine like John DeLorean's coke pipe; to now this. You've got the right stuff mr. Fingers.

I had an '86 ZX900A and it was a great old ride, nice quality and ran reasonably fast for the era 168mph... have fun!

I love that feeling of reviving an old engine. I just did this about 3 weeks ago with an older Snapper Rear Engine rider mower that sat for 10+ years outside. Check the oil, good, check for spark, good, check for fuel delivery, good, pull the pull cord about 20 times to loosen the cylinders up and then spray some starter fluid in the combustion chamber and it ran the first pull for 15 seconds. Did that 2 more times and it was running! It was so exciting! Now to just do the rest of the restore. I should record it and put it on KZread!

Wow, a blast from the past. My best friend traded his GPZ1100 in for one of these back in the day. Unfortunately a freak accident claimed his life very shortly after and this model of bike seemed to slip into obscurity pretty quickly which is a shame. This is the first mention I've seen of that model almost since the day of the accident some 35 odd years ago. Happy and sad memories all in one rush of nostalgia. I miss my bike crazy friend to this day though.

I wasn't sure I would be into a bike restoration, but your videos are excellent... I am in 😎
