Restoration Of An 80's Icon - Honda CR-X
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
This time on RRC Restoration I'm taking on the challenge of restoring this 1991 Honda CR-X that I bought some time ago from a guy that had it sitting on his driveway for the best part of 20 years and now that I have some time I thought now would be a great time to get stuck in and get it restored. Its currently a 1.5X with twin carbs and an automatic transmission so not very sporty at all but through the course of this video that will all change as I plan to restore this car to OEM plus to make it a very useable car on modern roads and traffic but still retain all of that 80's charm even though its a 90's car... but we'll ignore that fact lol. Anyway lets crack on and get it in the workshop.

Agree. Whenever I see a classic sports car as an automatic, I'm sad. Without a conversion they are basically mechanically totaled and have been for decades.

@@eduardolarrymarinsilva76Those early autos were anemic and sapped any fun from an engine that likes to rev on a car that weighs nothing. Manual on a CRX are absolute blast to drive. That Lightweight 80’s Japanese cars with manual experience will never come back ever again. Cars these days are very heavy. That nimble light feel can only be enjoyed with a manual where you can downshift at your own discretion to get the power necessary to say… pass a car while lane changing, or after you come out of a turn. Downshifting a light car feels way more peppy and responsive. It’s like you’re wearing the car instead of riding in one. I miss those days.

I ordered an 85 CRX .. I ordered a SI and the regular CRX.. The regular CRX came in first, so I bought it... What a fun car..I got married about the same time and the CRX had to go.. Had I known then what I know now, I would have kept the CRX and sent her packing...

My first car. OH, how I miss her. You brought back some great memories, when I used to work on my car in the driveway. So much work ahead. The best of luck.
I do remember these little CRX cars, at one time I had a Honda Concerto. The way it just started up was positive, not bad after standing idle for years. You are one of the most tidy minded people I have ever seen. to my mind it's the only way to do this kind of work without loosing parts and bolts all over the place.
Honda... sits there for 20 fkn years... a bit of juice in the carbs, charged battery and Hey Presto - started right up IMMEDIATELY lol.

I absolutely love the level of detail you are putting into your videos lately. A year ago, this would have been 3 minutes in a 30 minute complete disassembly video. It still would have been great, but this is just next level. The amount of extra time and effort required to film so many different steps, getting the camera and lights in place for damn near every screw, is just really impressive dedication. Thanks man!

My brother had two of these in the States, wrecked both of them. So glad you’re changing to the manual transmission !
Stripped my fair share of hondas back in the day, such easy cars to work on.
It hasn't done too many miles for its age and the interior looks in great nick. Shame it's not a manual VTEC, but I'd suggest that's why it's remained unsold and unmolested for so long!
