Looking for a change? Try this! Analog King Air and TDS GTNXi REVIEW | Real 737 Pilot

Ойындар

Time for my review on the Analog King Air and the TDS GTNXi.
Spoiler: Both are excellent addons and you will see me flying them more often!
Disclaimer: The TDS GTNXi has been provided to me for free from TDS as a review copy. I tried to stay as neutral as possible, but my opinion might have been influenced. And if you're saying "but you've been sooooo positive about it, surely your opinion has been purchased by TDI": I'm indeed very happy with the GTNXi, so yes, I am actually saying good things about it because there are many good things about it!
What I FORGOT to mention in the video: The AIRAC of the GTN is NOT updatable through Navigraph, you need the real life Garmin database to update it, which is not normally available to the flight sim community. The default AIRAC is a 2021 AIRAC.

    Great minds think alike! Before I flew the Boeings at the majors (727/737), I had a job flying the Beech 1900C. Basically a stretched King Air. Ours were completely analog, which was all there was at the time, and no auto pilot!!! I was accustomed to hand flying the whole trip from freighter days in the beautiful (old) Convair 340s. I retired in the 737NGs, but now I have a hankering to return to my roots, and I had already targeted this airplane! Thanks!

    I’ve spent week or two learning this and the gtn750 txd it’s a beautiful plane in RL and it’s finally been done justice in the sim with this update from BSQ it’s version 1.3 now which has added some nice touches and fixed many things. Carnt wait for my Alpha yoke to arrive and the BSQ G36 to learn too. this plane it’s a lovely change from the 737/320 with the greater automation. It’s why sim aviation is such a wonderful hobby interest you get to fly and enjoy many different types of aircraft’s. Thx for the review as always very pleasant and professional flight as always.

    Thanks for this great video. The complexity of the Analog KA is absolutely off the charts, and the TDS is the superior GTN product. The workload is so high flying this aircraft that I practically sweat trying to get everything done on short flights. Then I realize there are also random failures ha. Superb products, the whole catalog.

    Wow! Think I'll have to get this! Several years ago, I bought a KA350 DVD and fell in love with this aircraft. The pilot flew from KAPA to KTEX in Colorado. A few years ago, I visited CO and flew a Cessna 182 from Montrose up to Telluride with a CFI and enjoyed an incredible landing at an elevation of 9070' MSL. I'll probably never fly a real KA350, but this should be a treat in VR. 😊 Really enjoyed the video and subscribed 👍🏾

    Everytime I see those Garmin units and how user friendly they are, I can't help but shake my head over the commercial airline companies who fail to innovate their avionics and still work with iterations of flightmanagment computers that were state of the art 35 years ago. The FMC's and Avionics in them look like ancient fossils compared to what a GTN750Xi can do.

    Thanks for another good video! I did a lot of King Air flying these days and I agree, it's a truly amazing addon, together with the TDS a must have (I did use real world GTN750 and it's spot on). One of my favorites. Now procedural wise, I watched quite a some cockpit videos of real world 350 flying and also read a few forum posts of IRL king air pilots. Apparently, although the checklist states otherwise, they almost never use the high idle on ground. Only if it's very hot to have better air conditioning performance. Not for take-off and not for landing either, unless it's a real short runway to get faster spinup for instant reverse thrust or in case of a go-around. Also, if you watch them land, they usually put the prop levers to full RPM only just after touchdown. Apparently mainly because of noise concerns - the KA is veeery loud on full rpm. Keep it up! PS: if you want some good training docs, I found this very interesting in-depth training manual: pdfslide.net/download/link/be350-pilot-training-manual-fs

    I couldn't figure out how you started the airplane down. I got to the TOD point, lowered my altitude in the window and pushed V/S. The airplane didn't start down. It's very difficult for E to show all the time where he is looking, a disadvantage of the King Air and its pedestal buttons, and the nose up/down button is still hard to see, as is the O2 handle. A Big One for new guys to this sim like me: If you overtemp or do other no-no's to the engines, the sim remembers them and will sooner or later give you a red "Chip" light and you won't be able to start it back up. That's if you're lucky and the engine doesn't fail in flight. The place to fix that can only be found in a manual. It's in the Bendix radar on, what, the NAV switch and from there you can "fix" the engines. Ha, I never would have found that.

    Great videos. Just got the 738 and it’s absolutely amazing. I’m a huge turbo prop fan (wish we could eventually get the PMDG JS4100) and this analog King Air looks like it’ll scratch that itch perfectly. Side note, does tapping the brakes create disk warping on the brakes at all? I’d think with all of that inertia the rotors would take some abuse stopping the wheels. I’ve never flown RG airplanes so I have always been curious.

  • @johnc.4871

    @johnc.4871

    I might not understand the question, but it is my understanding that drum brakes handle heavy loads better than disc brake and fisc brake doesn't have brake fade. With drum brakes you have apply, get off them, and reapply several times to renew the stopping power. Band brakes are good, but not good as drums. Disc brakes warp when hot rotors are splashed with water. Keep the water off and won't warp.

  • @jjsemperfi

    Vatsim users BEWARE: I purchased the TDS system after seeing this but was quite disappointed to find it does not use the latest AIRAC or even close enough to latest for use with Vatsim. Everyone who intends to use this with Vatsim should be aware that it is unlikely you will be able to fine appropriate SID/STARS. I ended up spending more to get the PMS50 GTN750. For example, my first flight with it was supposed to be out of Orlando but I wasn't able to find any appropriate SIDS, all of them were too old to use.
