Thanks for a fantastic year, Jim! I've learned so much from you using Luminar. I really feel like I've managed to take my images to the next level with your help. 😄 For me, I always look forward to your more advanced videos, but I also rewatch basic techniques too, so that I don't forget my foundation. And yes, two videos a week is more than sufficient! Have a fantastic 2024!

I certainly understand the need to make changes and keep it all fresh. When I first came to Luminar in 2018, your videos quickly became essential viewing, and remained so ever since. To you it may feel like the content is repetitive, but it was that continual "this is how I go from here to there" instruction that drove home how Luminar really worked, and that made it work for me too. Of course I developed my own style over time, but all my finished photos have some Jim Nix in them. Every time I look at that Enhance slider I pause and double check if it's really time for that yet LOL.

Thank you Jim for all your videos in 2023. I like the idea that for 2024 your tutorial videos will be more on the informative side. You've always taken time to explain things you are doing and why without your cursor zipping about the screen like some others do. Definitely more on On1 2024 Raw and LR as these are quite powerful and can be complex programs. I read somewhere on the Web that Luminar Neo is going to subscription only but not seen anything more since. So not sure if this is true. Lastly, may I wish you and your family a very Happy New Year and thank you.

I'm a birder and have been using a simple Nikon P950 (knowing nothing about photography since I kept it on the Bird mode) but I have advanced to a Nikon Zf so I am now learning more about photography. I got my first birds-in-flight shots yesterday and was thrilled. I took your Master class on masking so I am editing my photographs completely different now, thanks to your excellent tutorials. And I am finding myself being drawn to landscapes, so I am going forward in 2024 with a year of learning! I appreciate you, Jim, and will continue to learn from you. Thanks for sharing your beautiful and colorful images. I wish I could travel like you do. Best of luck for a fabulous new year!

Hi Jim, I'm really looking forward to the year ahead, watching how you develop and what you do with the three apps (and maybe others). I find your videos really inspiring. I would like a little more information about your camera settings, not particularly f stop and time so much as Camera used and mode (Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, Manual, Auto, Program etc.) and why you chose that mode for that shoot. I'll be watching for your next video with eager anticipation. Happy New Year and may all your aspirations reach fruition.

  • @JimNix

Thanks for following along, I appreciate that. As far as shooting modes go, I use Aperture a large majority of the time. But for long exposures (waterfalls, light trails, etc) then I use Manual. I started out using Aperture so it's my default mode (and I use it exclusively when shooting brackets for HDR), and for a lot of shots I am not too concerned about how many fractions of a second the shot is, bc it doesn't matter (except when it does). But for long exposures with silky smooth water, it's Manual all the way bc exposure time does matter for me then. Hope that helps and thanks!

Jim, I agree that fewer videos with a better focus is preferable. I have settled with ON1 as my primary tool, with Topaz and Luminar as supporting tools. I see that you do not have Topaz in your toolkit right now but am interested in using Luminar with ON1. In particular, when should I start with Luminar versus using it as a plugin for ON1. I do enjoy your videos and they have helped me a lot.

  • @JimNix

thank you and yes I do have Topaz and will likely make a few vids about it, but honestly it's sort of a one click thing so I find it hard to consistently talk about, because there isn't much to it (though it does work quite well of course) and not much creatively speaking you can do (that is, it's a utility vs a photo editor)

Thank you Jim for all your high quality video and other teaching and guidance. My preference is for more ON1 content. While there is a massive amount of ON1 videos on their website and other sources it imho is so unorganised and random as to be difficult to take a methodical approach to learning the product; albeit the manual and written sources are very good. (I have a Neo Pro subscription and Lightroom also but don't open the latter much). Your "beginner" videos are very useful for getting a foothold on future learning in ON1. I like the I'm going to do this and this is why editing videos as opposed to the I'll move this slider and I simply like the result approach on many instructional video makers.

Hi, JIm - looking forward to your next batch of tutorials. You have given me a good start of migration from Adobe to ON1. May I make a comment? It is with the utmost of respect to you. Have done portraits for 37 years. Am looking at the background in your presentations. White comes forward and with the window frames cutting through your head find my eye wanders to what is outside rather than your face. Have many times found that the background in a portrait is more important than the foreground. An observation - please don't take offence.

Thank you for all you do and share. I’ve purchased as well as taken your gifts and use them on Luminar. This video was terrific too. Few take the time to recap and project their channel plans. I am thoroughly confused with the changes Luminar has made to the extension plans and can’t seem to find a simple explanation on how someone who owns a Luminar license but has yet to subscribe to anything beyond that, should consider moving forward. Suggestion ? Thanks again!

  • @JimNix

Thanks so much and they are now putting everything together (base product plus extensions) into a single price. It can be purchased outright or as a subscription. If you have Luminar and want to update/change, your best bet is to contact their support team to see what sort of "deal" they may be able to offer you. Also it's worth looking in your account on their website to see what you currently own, in case you aren't sure exactly. Hope that helps!

Started out going to NEO from ON1 PR after dropping all things Adobe (don't like renting software). Now NEO is nickel and diming us to death by not adding to basic app but charging an arm and leg for extensions. To make matters worse tutorials for NEO do not state that you need to pay for this extension to use this tutorial. Would be great if the tutorial stated " if you bought this add on " this tutorial is for you.
