My Grandmother Bettie Peacock love the Happy Goodman's Our pastor his son and wife sang this song at my grandma's funeral. My Aunt Dorthy Sutton that sang with Sutton family singers was also a big fan Happy Goodman family. They introduced me to the Goodman family I got my grandmothers albums after her passing they minister to me many times.

This song has been played at the end of every funeral service for our family since it was recorded. I was able to share that with Rusty a few years before he passed away. When I talked with him we had only played it twice. It's has sadly been many more times than that now. Such a beautiful song.

The Goodmans sere the very best. Vestal was such a sweet lady. There will never be a tenor like Johnny Cook. When I was a child I went with my Grandma & aunt to see the Blackwood Brothers. Their tenor at the time was Cat Freeman, Vestsl's oldest brother. It's great that so many of the musical families keep on singing for generations. I really miss those wonderful people & their music.

The first time I met Michael English he was singing with the Goodmans. They did a concert at the Lighthouse Church across the street from the city park in Madisonville, KY. I think it was 1983. After the concert, we stopped at the Waffle House for a late night snack. Rusty rolled up on his motorcycle. It was the best night ever!

Rusty was such a talented composer. Many of his songs still are impacting souls for christ. Timeless songs. The Happy Goodmans still touching lives. A few years back I saw Howard and Vestal in concert, and when they took the stage the whole place went nuts.

Brother rusty was my favorite writer God gave him the words he wrote them down it is blessing writing 4 God I'm been writing since the seventies over 200 songs all gospel t he Goodman were my favorite group I watched them on gospel jubilee every Sunday morning

My dear folks: I have been honored over the years to have known all the Goodman family, their musicians, and the younger people they mentored to one day take their places. No, there will never be another Vestal. in my book Rusty was"The Best" for his song writing, singing, delivery and style. Every good performer develops his/her own "Style." Just who are we to judge just because our "idols" come down from the pedestals we create and behave as most humans do? Jesus saud, "Let him without sin cast the first stone." It seems we have lost sight of that lesson I believe we should appreciate these people and the message they bring in song. For those magical moments let us lose ourselves in the words, the music, the incredible feeling that there is a God who sent His Son to reach down His hand to lift each one of us up from whatever mess we're in, to make us whole and clean again.And the Best part: This Man, Jesus, Almighty Son of God the Creator Loves us. unconditionally! We only need to confess our sins to Gim, ask His,forgiveness, and we are taken into the most exclusive Club in the Universe! And Jesus Paid it All on the Old Rugged Cross on Calvary's Hill. Just for us! So when you see someone post an unkind remark about a Christian singer, keep all those things in mind. Remember: You don't walk in that person's shoes. You are perpetuating gossip, which is worse than lying. How would it make you feel to have that happen to you? Yes, Michael English went through a rough patch but it was nothing like you inagine. But it was the narrow-minded; judgmental people like you who blew things out of proportion and began the evil gossip! Who put a stop to it? My precious friend, J.D. Sumner! He was a man unafraid to stand for what was right. God help any person who stood in his way too! I think you figured it but that is def a very young and very gifted Mike English. I am not sure what the time frame was of this recording. I know he sang with the Singing Americans and recorded the live version of I bowed on my knees and cried holy in 1984/1985 which is still one of the best recordings in the history of southern gospel music! What a talent!

The Lord will deal with those who speak (or write) against His annointed faithful servants. Michael English is the best most gifted vocalist AND most humble man we will ever be graced to hear. I am so grateful Michael DID go forward in his career as The LORD told him to. If he hadn't, millions would not have been completely changed by his ministry! One man encouraged to make the Biggest Come Back in Football History, many encouraged, DARING to believe that God loves them Unconditionally, millions Blown away by so much GIFTEDNESS in One GORGEOUS, ANNOINTED Voice, thousands able to make it thru one more day, many, many becoming lovers of Gospel music... There's simply just NOT enough space to write about all the people who have been BLESSED OF GOD by MICHAEL ENGLISH'S solo albums, sweet harmonies, humble, incredible spirit, who, in his book, The Prodigal Comes Home" bares his own soul as a human being like the rest of us. Michael English had more COURAGE than ANY "Christian" performer or music minister we will ever know as he dared to put it all out on the line in his book, SO OTHERS COULD KNOW GOD LOVES THEM and SO DOES MICHAEL ENGLISH! Hats off to the greatest Gospel singer ever and the most LOVING MAN of other people, especially suffering, real, under dog people that NEED a Michael English in this rough, critical, sometimes nasty world. I can't believe ANYONE could ever find fault in a VOICE or a man like him! Thank you Michael English!!! CheriByGrace Blah blah blah.. He is a very gifted entertainer. Beyond that .. his LIFE speaks volumes about his belief system. You see, Cheri.......if you DON'T BELIEVE IT .....................ENOUGH TO LIVE IT...... it's all a fraud and complete waste of time... and God really doesn't care for that. You may refer to your child-like crush as 'blessed'.. but God has another name for it. Jer. 48:10 "Cursed be he that doeth the work of the Lord deceitfully'

You act as if Michael is the greatest singer to ever live and he most certainly isn't. Look up David Phelps, Wes Hampton, Riley Harrison Clark, and others.

It's from 1983 from their album Chosen. He wasn't with them long as he soon left to join The Singing Americans.

Johnnie Simpson, before Michael English developed his solo career, he went with a little group called the Gaither Vocal Band. The group in this video recorded a remarkable album called "Chosen." I loved the original group, but the group you're watching was was much stronger vocally.
