I usually associate Lion’s Mane (Hericium erinaceus) with the colder months in Alabama so I was surprised when I came across a beautiful specimen on a very hot and humid day here! I can’t wait to cook this one. Have you found Lion’s Mane before? What months do you usually look for them? When I’m looking for a good Lion’s mane for eating, I want one with “hairs” that haven’t yellow that much, for meat that is firm and bouncy, not wet and waterlogged, and for it to have a pleasant aroma. This one checked all of those! Check out this video where I cook it! - kzread.info2sOHdeguheA

My Grandfather knew stuff like this. He grew up poor but richly blessed in the mountains. The oldest in his family. His father died young due to a fall from their roof. He taught me to live off of our land. From crabbing with a chicken back, frying up a mess of bream after a day of fishing, to helping him and my own Dad gut and skin a buck. Mushrooms are fantastic to eat. Chiefs pay big money for one called chicken or hen of the woods. I only wish my Dad would have let my Grandpa teach me about mushrooms. Thank you all for sharing your thoughts on this video and content. Men who are excited over deer butt mushrooms are an inspiration for me. Keep on finding those fungi.

When picking mushrooms(and foraging anything in general) its good to leave it if there won't be any left after you take some. Hey friend, I really recommend that if you wanted to to grow it in your garden you order spawn, it's really important to leave this log to do its job in it's local ecosystem. It's important to remember the respectful harvest, which means not harvesting everything you come across leaving some for other foragers as well as the forest itself. It's important to maintain perspective and remember that wild food is a gift and a resource that we must share and protect

Sometimes the perfect mushroom will pop out of nowhere. In california when on a walk, we found a lone mushroom and decided to take it home and identify it. We successfully identified without a doubt that it was safe to eat, so we made a soup out of it! (we also used wild onion, wild rosemary, and the meat of some tiny mussels from the ocean) and it was delicious!

When picking mushrooms(and foraging anything in general) its good to leave it if there won't be any left after you take some. In this case it would have been better to leave this alone as there was only the one. Someone also mentioned that mushrooms found near roads can also potentially contaminated with exhaust fumes and heavy metals.
Make a note of that location or poach that log for your garden!
@sophiarazberry6508
Жыл бұрын
Hey friend, I really recommend that if you wanted to to grow it in your garden you order spawn, it's really important to leave this log to do its job in it's local ecosystem. It's important to remember the respectful harvest, which means not harvesting everything you come across leaving some for other foragers as well as the forest itself. It's important to maintain perspective and remember that wild food is a gift and a resource that we must share and protect
