    Definitely not saying go. After a few listens without the band, it's clearly just a "sing/scream" starting with what sounds like an "ahhh" or "heyyy". Vocally sounds NOTHING like a g in the beginning like Go, and there's no "Oh" sound either.

  • @billhicks7034

    @billhicks7034

    8 ай бұрын

    Yea. But that's not what he's saying. Sound so much more like a "ahhh" or "heeyyyy" than any 'goooooooooo"...theres no hard g in the beginning, and no "oh" sound period, just a sing/melody sang with his own built in distortion, lol. And some, added effects it kinda sounds like at the very end subtly throughout

    I, like most other TOOL fans, have lots of favorite songs and their order naturally tends to change with my mood at the time. However, I’ve been on The Grudge for at least 3 months probably longer, countless times a day. DC’s drumming in it just does something to me that I can’t explain but I have to listen to it daily at least 4-5 times. It’s like a highly addictive substance to me for some reason.

    Have you not listened to the album Opiate? On Joe Rogan's podcast he comments about fans asking "why don't you do those epic screams in live shows anymore?" his response is "that's why we have recordings." lol The implication being that it's hard and he's getting too old. i was fortunate enough to see them outdoors just before Undertow came out. Best show I ever went to. I think I'm still coughing up mud from that mosh pit. But, ya... if you haven't listened to Opiate, give it a spin. it will blow your hair back.

It happens al the time to bands that have been around a while. I had an instructor, at a tech. school, for instance, who said to me "Tool's my jam!" After discussing music with the class. So I brought Opiate in about a week later & played it, he said "... is this Tool?". He'd never heard the album. Undertow was the oldest recording he was aware of. So... ya I just may be "that guy" I guess.

    I feel exactly the same way. I spend the whole song inwardly gathering all the things I've been holding onto for so long, and then when this part comes, I take a deep breath and slowly, silently (because I'm no vocalist), exhale for the entire duration of the scream. Towards the end I start to feel that lack-of-oxygen panic as my body tries to force me to breathe. I dig deeper into the agony of that seething rage and gut-wrenching despair that is the root of my Grudge, and power through to the end of the scream. When it's finally over and I take a breath, the freshly-oxygenated blood rushes through my body as the music begins to pulse with its low, powerful rocking rhythm, building and building to the whispers. "Let go, let go, let go": I clench my fists, because I CAN'T. But on every "go", I can open my hands, though they immediately close again. Up until the final "LET GOOOOOOOOO!!!" Then I keep them open and close my eyes and raise my head as I open myself to the music, letting the thrashing violent chaos of it engulf me and permeate my soul, like a fire burning away my Grudge, intensifying up until those final three chords and then suddenly it's DONE. Then I collapse onto the floor, crying with relief. If it can be said that the purpose of art is to make you feel something, then as far as I'm concerned this song is the greatest work of art of all time. It is the agony and ecstasy of the human condition in less than 8 minutes.

    I can, but not every time. I find it harder to maintain the note than to maintain the breath. The key is to ñt try to push out too much air at once. You can still hit the scream sound while limiting how much air you use at any given point. Too much, and you either run out of air or your voice cracks on the note towards the end.

    I saw them a couple months ago, my first time having waited 30 years and damn were they phenomenal. They sound as good, if not better live than their cds. I'm 55 and I've been to, hand to God, counting festivals, probably over 300 concerts and they are, by a very long shot, the best sounding band I've ever heard. I've seen artists ranging from Dwight Yoakum, Anita Baker, Slipknot (metal is my preferred) Elton John, Prince, ect., it's a wide array of artists and Tool sounded perfect.
