I've heard so much about "who needs this tool". I happen to have a cheap multi tool that I carry around that has no locking system and no screw driver bits. It's got a key chain hole on it so clearly made for edc. I looked into this t4 and got the measurements and lo and behold it is literally the exact same size as my current edc! So for me this thing looks perfect! But it is not cheap so I've been doing a lot of research on it. This review has been by far the best I've found. A man who has used it as a man's tool for long enough for it to show obvious signs of ware. I really appreciate it because I've had my current made in china edc for years now, and I wanted a replacement that would last for years as well.

Thanks for an honest review of a tool that has obviously actually been used - and used hard! I recently bought a Leatherman Free T4 and while my first impressions are very positive, it's reassuring to see that it should give many years of real life use!

A awesome knife in one pocket and a sak on a lanyard down the other pocket has been my edc for 30 year

I agree! Leatherman have taken all of the tools you actually need and made them one hand opening, locking and the same size as a 3 layer SAK.

Best way ive found to sharpen my multitool scissors (and regular scissors for that matter) is to use the small ceramic rod on the worksharp guided field sharpener used for serrations

I ordered the T2 yesterday. I compared T2 and T4 and thought the extra couple of tools weren't compelling. That said, I appreciate your review and maybe I'll get a T4 after I've used T2 for a little while. TBH, I haven't owned a multi-tool since I was in the Army pre-millenia. I like the new designs for these different Leatherman models. They've really been branching out since I owned one. I'm looking forward to the T2 arriving tomorrow.

I've been experimenting with different levels of carrying tools. I have a pouch that's usually in my bag with heavier-duty tools. In my pocket are some smaller things. So far, I haven't discovered a gap where I've needed more of a multitool in my pocket. I have been running out of comfortable pocket space and I'm not quite a belt carry fan. I hope I won't find a gap in my EDC the hard way...

I love mine! Just hate the blade steel… I’ve recently picked up the ASK Jefferson. And it’s definitely got quality S45VN steel and a great think stock on all tools. And 100% made in the USA!!! Maybe you should consider an upgrade. I will always love my trusty T4 tho.

Is that an RCBS powder drop in the back ground?

Personally, I'm not a fan of having pliers on a multitool. Usually when I need pliers, I need a larger pair than what a small multitoll can offer. I prefer to have other tools available, and just grab a dedicated pair of pliers when I need them. I ordered a T4, and it's still shipping. Based on videos I've seen, It seems to have a good toolset.

The last time I used pliers on a multi tool was in the early 2000s to take out stuck 3.5" floppy disks. I have never used an awl either. Blade, bottle opener, thing for fingernails, screwdrivers, and scissors...yes.

@@JoseSalazar-ei1oy I've used an awl once on a different tool, to pry a rock out of something, and it broke. That tool didn't have a pry bar, and it was a cheaper brand. Since then, I've decided it's better to just stick with a more durable leatherman.

When he said it was an amazing tool, an absolutely amazing tool ...it's like the base player in a band- I thought he was saying base players are amazing tools LOL.
