Long Term PC Fan Review - Thermaltake Swafan EX

9 Months ago I bought 3 sets of these fans, now I give my opinion on if they are worth it and what interesting features there are. (Here's a clue they have MAGNETS!).
Enjoy!

I used a molex to sata cable to run mine and it's working fine atm.

They use molex because sata doesn't have as high max wattage as molex. That's also why you'll see a max of 40 LEDs per port on controller that use only SATA or in Lian Li's new controller they use 2 SATA cables so you can use 4 of their fans per port. And Corsair does it a different way by making you have to add a sata at the end of a chain if it's too long even though the control already has sata power. I do understand how it does suck to pull molex back from the grave.

Thank you for explaining the technical side, I did not know this, I hope they will in future come up with something better than molex or multiple sata but it just shows how much power all this rgb uses.

@@DumbDownTech I have seen some controllers that use a PCIe 6 pin connector to power it. That could be a good way around it. If you have one left over after using 2 for your graphics card. I think the biggest problem is the amount of amps that they draw. They use more to light the fan than is needed to run it at max power haha.

Thankfully I do have a spare 6 pin, something to definitely look in to thank you. I'm also tempted to possibly change to the newer fans I mentioned in the review that do away with the controller and connect directly to the motherboard. Would be nice to do a side by side comparison.

@@DumbDownTech I have recently bought thoses as well for the same reason. I plan to use a razer chroma controller with it so I can have a more universal setup rather than be locked in some company's ecosystem.
