I remember pre-covid the 408 Fitchburg to Boston express was often a seven car set (long for Northside standards) and the 508 was nine doubles.

it looks kinda weird when locomotives are sandwiched between the single-level/double-decker levels.

Greetings. How far North and South does the MBTA commuter train service other than Boston and immediate surrounding areas? I use to live up in Salem Massachusetts. And am a native born New Yorker from the Bronx. I enjoyed the video really great video work. 👍

Thank you very much! I believe that the northern most station on the system is Newburyport on the Newburyport line and the southern most station is Wickford Junction on the Providence line.

@@rail_spike_productions Thank you for the information on the lines of service. For the life of me? I couldn't remember the full extent of line service the B&M MBTA train serves. Lol still looks as if they actually have more commuter train service than freight trains still running up there🤭 Anyway thanks for the great videos and reply.

Great video. Awesome long MBTA commuter rail trains. My questions are 1 Did they move that parked freight train? 2 Do thêse freight trains have cabooses?

Thanks very much. To answer your first question, yes, that train was only stopped there for a few hours as it waited for a new crew. As for cabooses, they are very uncommon around here. The only one that can be seen frequently is MBTA’s caboose “C-1” which operates on work trains.

Cabooses are unfortunately mostly a thing of the past. Now there are just End Of Train Devices (EOTs or ETDs) - more or less a flashing light with a radio on it.

The readville switcher is most commonly known as the MBTA’s equipment shuffle between the north side and the south side. There is a large variety as to why these long trains ran. Details about each of the trains in this video are in the description
