Great video Clarise. A lot of good information in this video. I find it great to have a long stick beside my sleeping bag so I can move logs and stir the fire or pull out hot rocks from the fire while in my sleeping bag. Hopefully there will be a few glowing embers in the morning that can be used to get the morning fire going. It’s also good to have starter material ready for the morning just in case ( always think ahead).

Thanks Jack! I think that would help to maintain the warmth you build up in your sleeping bag. Some nice tips thanks!

👍👍👍 Good Morning Clarise .. from an expat Kleinmonder .. Nice demo of the long log fire 😊. Unfortunately, here in Switzerland, I cannot practice such fires as, although Switzerland below the tree line is comprised of 32% very well-managed forest .. with practically each village / town having an adjacent / nearby forest .. some, as in my case, even separating villages, the Swiss are very protective of their forests. They will not take kindly to Neanderthals from down Down South coming in and building long log fires and such on their patch 😁. Herewith, some useless information 🙄 to add to that 😏. Probably common knowledge to yourself, but perhaps a viewer or two may get something from it. * Keeping warm in such conditions, ..what many do not realise is that adequate insulation below one can be just, or even more important than that over one. * The 'Survival Shelter'. Mors Kochanski, Dave Canterbury / Cody Lundgren and a host of others have demonstrated this application. For want of a thin transparent plastic sheet, in addition to the Tarp and Reflective Back Stop .. a much smaller (economical and effective) fire could save the day. * An alternative .. the 'Siberian Log Fire'. Demonstrated / used in real world winter conditions by Lars from 'Survival Russia'. Apparently the 'goto' Survival Fire for Native Siberian Inuit .. and economical on wood. * Just yesterday, I watched a video by a You Tuber, 'Swedwoods' .. a Swede who looks to know what he is doing Outdoor-wise. One of his latest posts using a version of the 'long log fire' .. the 'Fire Wall'. An overnighter at minus 24°C .. with no overhead shelter. Worth a look-see. Perhaps you could look to sharing some of these alternatives in the Southern African context please .. just a thought. As one should know, one should not go out to 'survive'. Forethought, proper preparation and the right gear (on / with one) is imperative to reducing situations where one has to get 'onto a ledge'. There .. 'blah, blah over 👏. Always a pleasure watching your posts (and the local Fauna) 😊. Until next time then, take care .. Tommy

Hi Tommy! Thanks for this info it's always great to hear suggestions. I'm sure you're little nostalgic about home too. Maybe you have some suggestions for vehicle survival too, here is the link to the video if you haven't watched it yet! kzread.info/dash/bejne/aauh1tyvetyndZc.htmlsi=SFowy25BCtGLz_Zg

😊 .. thanks, will take a look-see at the Vehicle Doodah. Nostalgic .. yep, at times .. 😔. Speaking of Nostalgia, 'Rooibos Tea' .. the used teabags, sun dried and soaked in paraffin make for excellent cheap fire starters. At a pinch, I'm sure that sacrificing a 'Fresh(pack 😏)' bag of Rooibos, rubbed up with some Vaseline Lip Balm (standard EDC) will do the job. I've tested this using 'Swiss Teabags' with success. Always nice getting a response from you .. thanks. Stay alert, be safe and take care ..

Really cool video......When I am out in the wilderness I keep a small fire kit on me at all times, even if I'm leaving camp for just a few hours. After all you never know what may happen.

👍 Nice video on constructing, starting, and even extinguishing a long log fire. Just FYI, very cute hat you were sporting in this video. I see someone asked about the knife you were using, my guess is the KaBar Becker BK62, am I correct?

Hey Clarise If you have Pine cones, chanses are good that you will have/find fatwood. You ever tried fatwood? That will ignite very easy. All the best. Thabo

If you want to bug out in the wild, do it in the tropics, bugging out in cold climates is insanity, the fire goes out during a deep sleep, the silent death is guaranteed.

Watch Huples cat winter camping video, a snow storm hits his campsite and almost dies of hypothermia, this is the silent death, it will shut your body down, without you noticing.

Sounds hectic. It's true, the inset of hypothermia can be slow and unnoticed. It's good to know what the signs are so that one can manage the situation from the start.

@LiveReady in the video his wife wakes him up in the morning, he had the first signs of hypothermia, he's a retired registered nurse in Canada 🇨🇦 ,he has a lot of medical information on bandaging wounds and even nuclear medication 💊 and other topics, he spoke about pandemics one year before it happened, he's the reason I had a bunch of face masks when nobody could even find them.

You have such pro content! People are criticized because they Do, while others Don't - keep Doing! Love the content 👌 😌

God I hate those video shots from the side. It's terrible video directing. When filming a person who is having dialogue is meant to be talking to someone either another person or the audience, like in interviews the camera is slightly off center because they are talking to the interviewer... when you do a side shot it breaks the connection and means you're talking to the camera and not the viewer and you've lost connection with the audience. Sorry, this is a pet peeve of mine.
