Long Life Food of Costa Rica!! HUGE BREAKFAST + Secrets to Eating in Nicoya!!
🔸 Huge thank you to @mytanfeet for this amazing experience!
🇨🇷 Costa Rican Street Food Tour: • First Time in Costa Ri...
Nicoya, Guanacaste Province, Costa Rica - Nicoya is one of the five Blue Zones in the world, where people traditionally live much longer and healthier lives. Today we’re learning from some of the community elders about what they do, and especially what they eat. This was a huge learning experience, and definitely many tips that we can all use!
Fonda Chorotega, Nicoya, Costa Rica - We first spent some time at Fonda Chorotega, a restaurant in Nicoya preserving traditional Costa Rican food in the region. We first cooked some local corn tortillas with cheese, then tried some tamales. Next we had an entire gallo pinto meal with organic free range chicken stew. We also had egg coffee!
Mujeres del Maíz, Nicoya, Costa Rica - Next we met up with a community from Mujeres del Maíz who specialize in preserving corn recipes from Nicoya. Corn, in all shapes, sizes, and forms is very important in longevity and local diet.
Fidel - 97 Years Old, Nicoya, Costa Rica - Finally, it was a huge honor to meet up with Fidel, who is 97 years old, and still enjoys life to the fullest!
Again, a huge thank you to @mytanfeet for arranging this entire experience. Check out their amazing website packed with Costa Rica travel tips and information (mytanfeet.com/).

Hiii Mark, i lived there, 9 years in a huge property of 4 hectares, did have gardeners helping to maintain the property, they are singing at work and lunchtime in their lunch box, always rice and beans, sometimes with chicken meat but most of the time, nothing else than rice and beans. What i also noticed that they like to clean up their houses even to use a broom to clean their little piece of lawn in front of their house!!! The kids wear uniform to attend schools, so no social discrimination beetwin them 🤗🤗🤗😁😁💔LOVE COSTA-RICA so much, wouldn't have wanted to leave this Wonderful Country if I could have a choice! Happy to see you there ❣️😘
Such a beautiful country. Why wouldn’t you want to live longer when you’re in such a beautiful place. My great grandmother lived in vietnam and survive to 105 years old before she left us. Just imagine how much she loved her country to be able to survive that long

The Ministry of Health is pretty strict on the permissions that it gives to places like bars and restaurants. Yoy have to pass a "food preparation" course to be able to work in the sector. The upside is that it will be difficult that you get sick after going to a legal food establishment in Costa Rica. The downside is that we, ticos, get sick all the time when we go abroad and try some other countries' delicious culinary traditions.
I love that style of tin cups and pots. My mexican grandmother had some just like it!
The traditional meal reminds me of the way I ate lunch in Colombia. What I love is the small portions, yet a full meal. I love the music!
Hi Mark We also make this kind of corn tortia in India . Specially in the north Indian provinces like himachal pradesh and punjab .we call it "makki di rotti" . We love to eat with spinach and white butter.
So cool you made it out our way! We love the blue zone and the water here is the best. A lot of our friends who are ticos and ticas don't drink the water anywhere they travel as it doesn't compare to the water here. Next time you come and if we are still here we would love to take you to some hidden gems we've filmed at and not places set up by the tourism board. True authentic experience. Looking forward to filming at some of your favorite spots in Thailand this coming year.
Thank you so much for taking us around the world with you! My mom and I have always found your videos to be so wholesome and enjoyable! We have been watching you since you first started.

Bourdain never made it to Cost Rica, and glad you did. Not a culinary destination - but wholesome good eats.. I still have some old " Tia Florita" cook books my mother used.with traditional Costa Rican recipes. The campesino version of Gallo Pinto has always been my favorite. McDonalds does offer a McPinto which is a pass. ....... Mark, are you missing the spicy heat ? Not a Salsa Lizano fan, but their Tabasco is quite good. When I lived there, I grew Bird's Eye thrived in that soil. which I had to fend off tropical birds. As you, I prefer my tamales with heat and my Thai chili stash.

This was amazing. I love Costa Rica 🇨🇷 so much! My wife is Tica and her family is from Paquera in Nicoya Peninsula, Costa Rica. I have never been there, but i have lived in Costa Rica for 9 years. What an amazing country… love the people, the vibes, the naturaleza (beautiful nature), the food, the beaches, etc. Un gallo pinto con natilla, pan, huevo, salichichon is my favorite food in the whole world! And a Casado 🤤… I probably never experienced pinto like this in the video. I wish… but I will. Now probably everything is just cooked in oil in San Jose 🤢. Killing us slowly…

I worked as guide for 3 .5 months in northern Costa Rica, the white (farmers) cheese that we obtained from some local farmers was amazing!
Knowing that when you go to theses places you see a lot great dishes, that shows the value and traditions of that country.
Two things that really stuck out for me regarding Costa Rican cuisine: The cheese and gallo pinto with Lizano sauce. Mmmmm. Oh, and the coffee. Even grocery store coffee was awesome. Brought some home with us along with a bottle of Lizano sauce.

All blue zones have something in common: socialization! People stay active and above all social. The food is generally healthy but vastly different. It's probably the human factor that keeps people going for so long.

Seeing the guides is almost as interesting as seeing the food. It's very interesting to hear what they have to say about their local food and food habits. Seeing how it's so localized with very different views on food and consumption habits outside of their country. I've noticed this discrepancy in how the rest of the world eats, as viewed by the guides, a lot more noticeable in the recent Central American videos you've done. Thanks for all the work, great videos.

Love that you did this video specifically about the distinct food from Nicoya peninsula and Guanacaste province, their folklore is considered essential to Costa Rican identity and after this video I am really longing to go back there. 21:00 Culantro coyote is a secret weapon to many dishes in Costa Rica, it tastes amazingly and adds so much to the fragrance of a dish. 24:50 that song is called "Amor de temporada", an amazing song from a Guanacastecan composer.
You are the coolest dude man, for real, your energy is like no other. Don’t ever change man, you a real one!🫡
