Long-legged Charleston - how to dance this step
How to dance the most basic form of the Charleston as part of the Lindy hop, and how to avoid the Basil Fawlty version.

It will be interesting to see how many people watch this one. Possibly, if I did a LOT of Lindy videos, they would start to be watched by a different demographic from my norm. Not many axe enthusiasts want to watch on-line dance lessons. Still, it is often said that the standard of free on-line dance lessons is very poor, so here I do my bit to improve matters.
The Lindy hop is a 1930s swing dance, and one of the basic steps people do in it is this version of the Charleston.
This video was shot with the help of Laura Halttunen of The Jazz Factory, Helsinki's primary dance studio for the swing dances.

In case you are curious, my post-end-plate spin is two and a half turns (900 degrees).
I built a sound-baffle around the camera, which blocked out most of the echo from the large room, but blocking it all out was impossible.
Lindybeige: a channel of archaeology, ancient and medieval warfare, rants, swing dance, travelogues, evolution, and whatever else occurs to me to make.
You can now buy the music I use over the end-plates of my videos, which was written as the theme music for The Adventures of Stoke Mandeville, Astronaut and Gentleman: lindybeige.bandcamp.com/releases

Never much been interested in dance, never particularly tried or felt confortable with it, but your videos are always interesting. Good tutorial, as well.
How could someone possibly dislike this, it's charming even if your not a dancer
As both a fan of your historical discussions and a lindy hopper of several years myself, it's great to see you bringing the lindy back to lindybeige. In your response about dagger-fighting with a rondel, I loved your analogy to dancing with a pupil and having to say, "that was perfect, don't change a thing, that will be fifty quid, please", and I'd feared your videos were taking up so much of your time that the lindy hop was having to be left behind. Thank you for sharing the good things in life, sir.
Ah yes the "Long-Legged Charleston", the Vikings were known to do this before battling with the crusaders in the Eastern Roman Empire.

Hi, I visited you in person around a week ago to try and register my new funky silly walk. The kind lady at the desk directed me to the "Silly Walk Registration and Testing Room" where I was met by 4 science-y looking people in white lab coats. When I began to demonstrate my new silly walk, they paused and proceeded to laugh at every step I took, greatly humiliating me at a very vulnerable time. I had hoped to register my silly walk, a walk that I have been practicing for many months now to perfect, however, I was turned in to a laughing stock. Is there any way for me to file a formal complaint? I do fear, though, that those 4 lab coat dressed 'silly walk experts' were not experts at all, and were merely trying to get a kick out of my silly kick which I did every 3 and a half silly steps.. How disgraceful and sad.
As bizarre as this is going to sound, these videos really make my day. And I mean most of Lindy's video's make my day because he's just _so damn happy_ talking about what he loves. Like, seriously, the household knows when he posts because there's a general amount of cheering from my end. Thank you for all of your hard work, LB.
I just watched a full video of a dance lesson. Not something I'd normally do, but that's the magic of KZread.

***** oh no, I didn't know the dance at all. But after I watched a good number of his videos, I became curious about the person Lloyd and so I checked out his homepage and read some news articles about him. Also I believe I heard him mention lindyhop before in one or two vids.
Geeze, stumbled on this by accident... looking for funny stuff about horses and ancient cavalry. The dancing looks like fun. I will have to check out the rest of your dance videos. My wife will thank you. thanks
Your a fascinating person... No matter the subject you talk upon, I'm genuinely interested in it and it keeps me thinking throughout the day; in large part I believe due to your on screen charisma. I hope there are many more.
Loving this dance vids Lindy, keep doing them if you can ♡
Lloyd. As one of your viewers who watches every lindy one of your videos, I cast my vote for you to make many more videos in this fashion.
An amazing display. You have a lot of talent Lloyd.
I don't really care about dance but Lindybeige is so far the only one in the world that have made me watch and follow with huge interest. That kinda says much.
This is a video that i didn't know I wanted. And i love it! Keep up the good work!
Discovered the lindyhop thanks to Lloyd, very glad he made a video about it after so long :)
I watched with facination, felt the immediate urge to replicate this fabulous dance, forgot that I have a broken bearly healed ankel, proceeded to tip over my desk, crash to the ground and flop around like a fish for longer than I care to admit. No regrets, keep up the great work Lindybeige.
I'm glad you're doing lindy hop videos again. ^^
I like it, doubt that I will ever put this to use. Keep doing your thing Lindy!

I was watching this in a Gear VR headset and that ending spin absolutely wrecked my head. Other than that self-inflicted oddness, enjoyable vid ^^
Love the practical vids. Would be so cool if you demonstrated your weapon technique vids in a practice space as well. Going to pull this off at parties from now on
Subscribed for the informational videos, stayed for the garden gnome kick

I love the mix of Lindy and Beige in this video
Wow, I didn't know you do dance videos! Or teaching for that matter! Great content!
Watched video, was dancing, then checked out the username, then checked description, so apparently guys this is a dancing video, by Lindybeige. Still learned something, just not what I expected!
So Lindybeige is several thousands of years old right? He lived through every era he speaks about? That's the only way one man could know as much as he does. This is great.
I was honestly expecting the dancing partner to be a greenscreen take of Lindy himself edited into the video. What a pleasant surprise.
Man, you sure can Dance! thanks, it was nice to watch.
This actually looks like something I could learn. Cool.
I just can't imagine this would be that effective in actual combat.
Nice demonstration!
