Long Lasting Spider Mite Solution! How to Get Rid of Spider Mites

Spider mites are a common and obnoxious plant pest that most gardeners have to deal with at some point. Luckily I was blessed with a massive infestation of spider mites which allowed me the opportunity to demonstrate how to get rid of spider mites. It has been over a month since my initial spray with the homemade spider mite spray and coating with wiltpruf, no signs of any return, but i check regularly incase I need to smother them again. This is the best method i have found for killing and controlling spider mites. Unfortunately it is not universal, some plants wont do well with an anti-transpirant on them, but I would say it safe and effective for 90% of what is in my plant collection

    Spider mites are my nemesis!!! I’m currently dealing with an outbreak AGAIN!! Ugh! What I have found really works well is similar to your mixture, but along with the neem oil, isopropyl alcohol, soap and almost hot water, (I use both peppermint & teatree dr bronners Castile soap), and I also add hydrogen peroxide. I find it super helpful to spray the whole plant down with a pretty aggressive spray of very warm water first, and then I spray every inch of my plants down with the mixture listed above. I find it really works!! Good luck to everyone dealing with pest pressures; this time of year (early fall) seems to be the worst for me!

    Your not killing their eggs. Try to get an actual miticide to kill the mites when you first see their webbing. Use an ovicide to kill their eggs. Make sure to treat the soil with it as well since in certain climates @ certain times of year they come from the soil. Then make sure to use a liquid fertilizer mix & add in a pesticide such as Imidacloprid to the fertilizer mix. Imidacloprid can be used as a systemic pesticide that is absorbed by the plant & when pests feed on the plant material it will kill & keep them in control. Always keep an eye on your plants & take care of infestations as soon as possible. Always read & adhere to the labels of chemicals you use for best results. Make sure to switch up the active ingredients year to year to avoid them becoming tolerant to one chemical. Consider using, buying & releasing natural predators or beneficial mites to control the bad mites as a more natural, easy to do remedy. I’m licensed in my state for the use of pesticides. I see & take care of our customers plant issues everyday for a living.

    Oh my goodness that elephant!💚🙃 Now if I had this information sooner I may have saved my brugmansia. Just teasing, I’ve been going through all of my plants, repotting, watering when needed, moving them to better locations and checking for bugs. It’s taken me about three days, of course there’s many other things I need to do in between, but three days so far. At least I’ll know that their all ready set to grow. I can’t wait for it to warm up so I can move some of them outdoors, they really enjoy that and so do I because I don’t have to worry about get water all over, I just spray them down with the hose. I don’t think I’m going to them all out this year like I did last year, that was a pain and moving them in more painful.💚🙃 I just bought one of those cactus you were repotting, I have several different ones in a shallow pot I repotted all together, saves space. It actually has a small flower on it🙂. Thanks Jeff, I will for sure be using your recipe for spider mites. I haven’t seen any so far, except for the brugmansia which is in a totally different area of my house, thank goodness. It’s 56 degrees outside today and I’m totally itching to get out there and try to catch up on yard clean up, fortunately I have the indoor house project going, almost done maybe tomorrow, because I’d really rather be outside this time of year. Thanks again Jeff for your tips, tricks and what nots. Say hi to the furry fam for me. I’m inheriting another dog in April so we will be up to 4, I don’t think I’ll ever catch up to you with the fur babies, I don’t have the energy for that, and number four is going to just do it for me. Take care and hope to see you again soon💚🙃

    Wow you have been busy! I know what you mean, watering is so much easier outside, that's one of the big reasons that I go to the trouble of setting up the garage for the plants in winter, such a hassle watering inside. Yay for another dog! 4 dogs equals everything I have😆 that's a lot of work! Buddy is going home next week so I'll be down to just the one dog, that is going to feel so weird, I can't recall what is like without two doggies, and just a few years had 4 in the house! Lots of change.

    The best thing I have ever done to prevent mites in my greenhouse is spring prevention. If you have a grow space or greenhouse that is able to be washed down it is very advantageous. Every spring/year before I start moving plants into my greenhouse, I get Nemoil concentrate, and mix up a bunch of it. I then (after cleaning the greenhouse) simply spray everything with the mixed solution, floors, tables, or anything else that might be in there. The floor being the biggest area of concern, as most mites are tracked in or introduced by bringing foreign objects in. I liberally soak the place down well with zero concerns. This usually lasts through the hot months of the summer, and will prevent the introduction of many insects year round. Then always at minimum spray once and isolate for a week all new plants you might introduce into your grow area from outside areas. Especially ones bought from large retailers, as those seem to be the worst hands down. I won’t even consider buying plants from Walmart, these plants nearly always have something unwanted coming with them. If able to, try this, I have had great success doing it this way. Prevention is the best cure.

    Is there a good way to get the wilt pruf off the plant beside just trying with a microfiber towel and water? My plants aren't doing well, that I've treated (several had spider mites). Fiddle is dropping many leaves. So I'm trying my best to get the wilt-pruf off as I feel like it's suffocating the plants :( pretty stressful as these are all large (4-5ft) plants that are now being effected.

    I've heard garlic is excellent for repelling and the same with rosemary. There are some growers of those expensive herbs who are using a feed with rosemary in it that is supposed to make the plant taste bad to spider mites. Will be interesting to see how that develops over the years.

Luckily I've only ever seen them on the Adeniums and Japanese Yew. I don't know what it is with those Japanese Yew, spider mites love them. They aren't usually a problem for me either, the humidity in spring, summer and fall seems to keeps them away and it's only in winter when the heater dries the air that I see them. • @michaelmccarthy4077

    @michaelmccarthy4077

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@TropicalPlantParty yes, the A/C can't be visible from the road. Stupidest thing I've ever heard, if they didn't want it visible from the road, why did they put it where they did? So everyone has to have whatever bush they choose at the time in front of the electric meter and A/C. It used to be cocoplums but then they started getting infested with white flies and branches were dying so they ripped them all out and replaced them with the yews. Could have chosen lots of different things but the people on the landscape committee don't know anything and listen to the landscape company. Of course the landscapers wanted the yews because they are cheap and don't require much pruning.

    Great mix. Also put in some hydrogen peroxide and you have the perfect mix

    I agree! I add hydrogen peroxide and for soap I use equal parts of Dr Bronners Castile soap in both peppermint and teatree scents. This combination works immediately and even desiccates the webbing if the infestation is bad enough that there are webs present. The hydrogen peroxide literally explodes the mites (or so I have been told; gross!!) Nothing brings me more joy than wiping out every last little bugger feasting on my expensive rare tropical plant babies!

    At what point in this video do you tell us to rinse the plant after spraying this alchohol blend? I sprayed my hibiscus last week with this solution and now my hibiscus is quickly dying. Almost all of my leaves have yellowed and dropped in one week. Frickin pitiful!

    Please fix your video so the transcript and captions are in ENGLISH. Right now, it's auto-generated Dutch and I have my language set to English. Plus, I'm not in the Netherlands, so what's the deal with DUTCH AUTO-GENERATED CAPTIONS AND TRANSCRIPT?!!!!

    They're being auto-generated in Dutch? I have no idea why that would be. I've checked my settings and they are set to English. Weird! I'll look into it further to see if there is anything I can do on my end to fix that.

    I would assume it is because it would be less harsh on the leaves/plant itself?
