@@keithpugh7538 I can see how it could look that way to you. But I understand why the beekeeper commented and was grateful. The methods other people (not just the beekeepers) learn to use from gardening channels make a massive difference to bee populations. It’s not like a dog who just eats in their own yard, the bees pollinate all over an entire area, and take back traces to the hive. One single bee coming into contact with harmful pesticides can kill an entire hive, and this is what is happening everywhere. If many beekeepers lose their entire hives, this will not just be a problem for beekeepers but the entire human population.

@@JoyfulJenn Many areas have hive rentals. For a nominal fee, the bee keepers place the inhabited hive on your property and tend to all the bees' needs (two or three times a year). I've been delighted with mine!

So for those who can't watch the whole video. It looks like her first step is captain Jack's Deadbug, second step neem oil, third step malathion. Repeat process for another 3 weeks. Always spray at night and then do each step a week apart. Spraying off the whole plant regularly, not just from thr bottom with drip hoses, helps knock off the bugs. Reply in this thread for anything I missed or needs corrected

Tip: Release lady beetles at dusk or early evening only. In the daytime they will just fly away because of the heat. Spray water on the plant first, it will make them drink the water and may keep them around longer.

They are related to spiders and relentless. Controling them starting in springtime as soon as the weather begins to warm up seems like a really good goal. My favorite control method and mainstay of my garden remedies is the neem mixed with castille soap on a regular schedule. Unfortunately, I slacked on spraying in late spring and lost some plants. I will be on my toes next spring for sure!

Great information, and I’m glad to see that you covered PPE. I would like to add that people should keep their pets inside. Obviously while spraying, but it might be a good idea to keep them away from the area that has been sprayed for the remainder of that day. If your pet needs to go out to go to the washroom, maybe take them out on a leash so that you can control where they go, or better yet, take them on a walk if possible. To be honest, I would keep my children out of the yard for the remainder of the evening as well, but I think that would be very obvious to everyone. Anyway, just some things to think about 😊. I love all of your videos, and I am looking forward to seeing how the new property develops next year 🌻. BTW, CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Also, let your neighbors know before you apply. If their windows are open, pesticides may drift in; once indoors -without rain, sunlight, and soil microbes- pesticides take *much* longer to break down. A neighbor’s application of lawn pesticides caused me to have immediate, severe neurological symptoms and left me with chronic health problems still with me 30 years later. Had I known, I could have closed my windows, or left for a while.

I’m so glad you covered the proper safety measures one should take before spraying plants with insecticides. Early in my gardening life I used Malathion on some very persistent spider mites. I did not wear the proper attire an became very sick, because I poisoned myself. I have asthma and had to be taken to the hospital and was there a few days. I’m so thankful that you covered proper use and protection. As always your video gave us all the information for proper use and also gave much needed steps to protect oneself. I live in southern Arizona which is usually hot and dry but even our rainy monsoon season was a hot, dry heaven for spider mites this year and I lost over half of my little back yard garden to spider mites and white fly this summer. I am hopeful that armed with this information next year will go much better for my garden.

Right on time. I am presently dealing with a similar problem and was not sure what type of insect it was. Now that I know it is spider mites I can identify it sooner. Questions: 1. How long does the insecticide stays active on the plant? 2. If it rains, does it have to be applied again and how soon? 3. How long before I can shower the plants after applying the insecticide? 4. Should the top soil around the plant be removed and replaced with clean soil? Thank you for such excellent video. It was short and succinct!! Great job!!

If its something like Neem that is oil based then it will not immediately wash off (you'd have to check label for how often to reapply). As to your soil, you do not need to dig your soil out but you can give the area that is affected a good dusting w/ sulfer powder. This will suffocate them.

Great video! Very informative. I didn't know you need to swap out chemicals each week. Now I do. I feel like I can really conquer these bugs! I also appreciate the specifics on each chemical as to how they work and what they affect. Thank you!!!😊

Just started planting an orchard and have somethings in a sunroom. Couldn't figure out what was wrong with our cold hardy kiwi until a little late - mites. The learning curve is so steep with learning to take care of a variety of plants to make the healthy, muchless with things are going wrong - Japanese Beetle, carpenter ants, mites and everything! This channel has become such a resource of balanced information. Thank you so much!

Impecable timing! My tomato plant is suffering because of these little pests, was already planning to spray neem oil tomorrow morning, so glad I watched this because it’ll now happen this evening. And I’m going to start spraying the leaves with water every morning, especially since we’re going back up to 100+ degrees later this week.

This was timely! I was just out in my front garden and noticed tiny spots on a couple of my azaleas. We've had problems with webs in other azaleas but had no idea the two were related. Captain Jacks and Malathion are on my shopping list for my next trip to the garden center. Thank you for this helpful video. What you thought might be boring was exactly what I needed this week!

I have had great success eradicating my indoor spider mites with a strong rosemary infusion. Break up a fresh rosemary branch and steep it in hot water. Transfer the tea to a spray bottle and spray the infested plant as often and as thoroughly as you please. I'm not sure how well this would work for outdoor plants, but it's worth a try before resorting to chemicals.

Laura, this was EXTREMELY HELPFUL!! Thank you so much for making this videos! I fought the battle of spider mites and budworms fairly successfully all summer with some of these products. I like Captain Jack and Rose Rx. I had about 50 annual mixed in a few perennials flower pots around my 3 porch, deck areas. I finally gave up after the fires and all the smoke in western Oregon because it made the problem 10x worse! Now I am clipping way back much of them and hoping for a just little color through October. ❣😉💚

Extremely informative! Thanks! I've gleaned alot of this information from other videos of yours, but this is nice to have for reference to revisit at a later date...like when I've forgotten! And thanks for the clarification on how to use the hose end sprayer! I'm always confused about how that is used! Bless Aaron for doing the spraying and all of the heavy lifting! Just the best! Carry on!

Thank you for doing this. I didn't realize why it's best to spray at night. I have just invested in BT and a hose pump sprayer so I needed to hear this today. I was moving some plants just last night and flicked off my arm several spider mites. Now I know what they look like and what I need to get. Thanks so much. Hope you get those maternity pants today.

I was watering my plants today and I noticed on one of my marigold plants had a dusty look to it. Then, I noticed it was webbing. I touched it and tons on small red dots transferred to my fingers. I immediately thought spider mites. Had I not watched garden answer, I would have had no idea. Thanks Laura and Aaron!
