'Long Island Medium' Theresa Caputo Addresses Backlash Surrounding TLC's September 11th Special

Ойын-сауық

After previews showcasing snippets from her 9/11 special sparked controversy across social media, renowned psychic medium Theresa Caputo is breaking her silence and addressing the misconceptions in an exclusive with PopCulture.com host Tania Hussain. In the special, Long Island Medium: In Memory of 9/11 airing Sept. 9 at 10 p.m. ET on TLC and streaming concurrently on discovery+, Caputo visits the sites of the horrific terrorist attacks and meets with families of the departed to deliver messages of healing and heroism from the spirits of their loved ones. But as the promos made their way across social media, many accused the beloved psychic of exploitation despite participants of the special willfully taking part.
"I think that is one of the biggest things, that there are a lot of misconceptions in general about the world, and more importantly, myself and my gift," Caputo told PopCulture. "My thing from the beginning is always, nobody has to believe in what I do. I want them to believe in an afterlife, to know that all the things that go on around them is their loved ones reaching out and letting them know that that soul bond can never and will never be broken."
Adding how she was "honored" to be able to help these families on so many levels, Caputo shares something a lot of people might not know about her is how September 11th played a crucial part in her psychic and spiritual awakening. "[It] was the turning point for me of fully embracing my gift, accepting the fact that this is my soul's journey here in the physical world because a lot of people were left with more burdens and guilt and what happened to their loved ones. They weren't able to recover their loved one's physical body."

I love the interviewer. I do past life readings and what she might not know is that she was Jewish in a past life and passed away in a concentration camp. What I've found about people like this is that in this life, they are extremely compassionate and always stand up for people who are considered marginalized in our society. I'm sure this is who she is.

Today is March 3, 2022. My mother passed 36 yrs. ago today. It took me 15 year to get past my grief enough to actually receive a message from my mother. It came in the form of yellow roses delivered to my place of employment for Valentine's Day. I had cried myself to sleep the night before talking to my mom about how I missed her and I hoped she knew how much I loved her and appreciated all the things she did for me. I also asked for a sign that she knew this. When those roses came towards me at work I busted out in tear. Only my mother and I knew of our personal connection to the song, 'The Yellow Rose of Texas' that we shared together from my childhood. When I got home I asked my husband why he picked the yellow roses as he always sent me carnations. He said, "It was kinda odd. It was like someone said, " Send the yellow roses in my ear." OMG! I replied, "Yeah, it was my mom." That was the start of many 'yellow roses' crossing my path. She would have been 105 in January. I learned to embrace my 'gift' and saw my dad twice after he passed and got a birthday message on the truck radio.

All the money made from readings is donated to charity and I was pretty surprised at how accurate the readings were. I think she’s a great person. There are people that are truly empathic and who’s to say what’s going on. I have an open mind and I am so glad she gave the people that were hurting closure. The history of seeing or sensing or talking to the dead is ancient. I think it’s pretty cool.

@Angela Sabatino Clearly Theresa has a long standing relationship with her tv production company, producers, assistants and other employees on her shows. She would have a contract and be paid earnings that way. So her gifts as a medium are also her career. I'm inclined to believe the comments that say the fees she charges for individual readings are donated to charities. She will be receiving advice from tax lawyers on how to reduce her income tax. When she goes out on the road and people buy tickets -- not sure who benefits profits from the profits of her touring shows ? Maybe we'll all know a little more one day !

@stacy brown Theresa said "volunteer firefighter". So, her Dad fitting in those duties around his regular job. I agree with your comment though. And I believe all kinds of service men and women turned out on 9/11. The full timers, people with a day off or on holiday leave, volunteers, people from outside lower Manhattan, maybe even some recently retired personnel (?). I loved reading the personal story of Rick Rescorla, Security Supervisor, on the twentieth anniversary of 9/11. How he'd drilled all the employees at his investment banking company to perform evacuation drills over many months. (Which they mainly found tedious.) The NYC Port Authority had many floors in that building. Rick overruled the Port Authority advice for people to stay at their desks (I think this was the North Tower) and issued evacuation orders for the people he was responsible for. His actions and planning saved many hundreds of lives that day. He died going back to assist someone. Only an identifying personal item was recovered for his family, but sadly not his remains.
