I am happy you spoke about how rice water affected your hair and what you did to minimize the damage. What i got is that rice water is not bad for relax hair but depending on the porosity of your hair you can limit its usage accordingly. Thanks for that info.

I had long hair my entire life . Being natural breaks my hair . When I perm it it grows so fast . I perm my hair once a year only . And wear protective styles during the summer . I perm my hair every November .

Although I’m natural and prefer to wear my hair under wigs, braids or straighten. I learned many straight hair care tips from women who are texlaxed or relaxed and the tips universally worked.

Just subscribed! I'm thinking of relaxing purely for convenience. I'm a natural (4c) - have been since 2010 but have cut my hair numerous times throughout the years. My hair is super thick and honestly just such a pain to maintain 🥴.

Same, but April sunny was the one that convinced me. I initially thought my relaxed hair would look red, damaged and Gross as it did back in 2012-2018 but now I know how to care for relaxed hair l; just as how you take care of natural hair, really. Just a bit less time

I was slightly over BSL (which was my original goal length) in early 2014. I loved that length so much! I wasn't even trying that hard then. :( I had a setback afterwards and stayed at APL for ages until I had yet another setback and now I'm shoulder length. I also have collagen, but daily (either Meiji or Vital Proteins). I also feel the same about relaxers.

@@swisdom9117 I did all the time, but it ruined my scalp. The first setback was just due to lack of money to take care of my hair. Most recently my setbacks were related to hair loss in general (fibroids causing low iron and other issues) and VERY recently too much protein use.

@@decemberclouds arghhhh I feel your pain. It's very alarming that you say the protective styles damaged your hair. We're the braids or cornrows too tight? Did the lace wig cause your edges to go? You know, yesterday I realized that 'it's only just hair' until you see years of progress and hard work fall flat like that. I had my friend relax my hair (a new cosmetologist) and my hair is such a mess now. My hair is super thick and she left the relaxer on for almost 2 hours. She moved so slow, like 20 moms per section. Despite telling her the right way, she said I watched too. Much YT vids and got paranoid/confused. Now my hair is pulling out, overprocessed in the back, underptocessed at the roots and ends. Can you believe that after all that, she was upset she didn't comb the relaxer through WITH A FINS TEETH COMB? I almost lost my shit but in the end I calmly let her know that wasn't gonna work. It's so discouraging because I thought she knew her stuff (2 minutes per section, no combing the relaxer through, edges last etc, I quizzed her) but now I'm so lost and confused. Good hairdressers here on Jamaica are a rarity and now I'm terrifies of someone doing even more damage. I'm gonna put it on braids like I usually do. All in all, I'm still glad I have volume,. My scalp isn't damaged and it's sorta easier to manage now. I had BSL too. I can't afford olaplex products to repair. Like you, I'm stuck rn. But it will get better.

@@swisdom9117 It was more the combination of CONSTANTLY wearing a bun. I'd wash my hair, put it in a bun and leave it that way. My hair took forever to dry. I ruined my scalp which didn't help my hair health. Protective styles are great but they have to be in conjunction with other good habits. My hair was mostly ruined by fibroids/low iron, poor daily maintenance, stress and over-protein. I live in the UK and it can be hard to find a good hairdresser too. My current one is good. It just so happens that she's from Jamaica haha.

Hey! I noticed in one of your videos, I think you said your mum used to relax your whole head which resulted in damage. I’m currently in that situation and my hair is so bad, I really want to cut it off. Is there anyway I can revive the hair and it’s length/strength or should I just cut it off and start again?

  • @kristenstikes

@@kristenstikes thank you for replying! To make a long story short, My hair is so so dry you can’t even begin to understand, my hair has lost so much of its length and for some reason (I don’t know if it’s because of relaxers) I can no longer slick my hair backwards without an excruciating pain at the middle parting.

@@kiaevans7142 unfortunately sometimes cutting it and starting over is the best option. So you can start fresh with a solid moisturizing and sealing routine and a good moisture-protein balance with your conditioners. When any of those things are off they can cause dry hair. As far as pain in the middle that may be need a dermatologist’s assistance. I wonder if that could have been caused from not washing the relaxer out properly.

@@kiaevans7142 Stop using relaxers. You might be allergic to the chemicals. I've heard this from others. Please go natural. You can use wigs or braids to transition if you are not comfortable with the length. You can wait for the new growth to come in and do a big chop. I suggest using growth oils on your scalp to help with faster growth. I like Ultra hair vitamins, helped my hair grow. Make sure you are using deep conditioners. Try Camille rose algae deep conditioner no matter the length of your hair. It will help. Try more natural products. Your hair is dry I would try shampoo that moisturizes like a baby shampoo from shea moisture. Don't forget to eat your fruits and veggies, less meat. Good luck.

PLEASE HELP. I just did my relaxer and the person leftit in for almost 2 hours (it's a long story) but basically now it's like textlaxed, the roots are underptocessed and the ends are puffy. I want to do a corrective relaxer in about 2 months but some of my strands are relaxed super straight (the middle). Besides chopping all my hair off, what can I do to rectify this?? Do you have any recommendations? I already did a protein treatment and my hair is coming out easily so idk if that helped.

  • @kristenstikes

    @kristenstikes

    3 жыл бұрын

I’m so sorry that happened. It sounds like there are a lot of different textures in addition to chemical damage. Unfortunately, sometimes a fresh start is your best option. If I were in this situation I would most likely cut down to the underprocessed area. I know that’s never ideal but it may be necessary. Be sure to visit a professional stylist to help make your decision then build a steady regimen similar to the one mentioned in my videos.

@@kristenstikes hey, I bought the two step aphogee protein treatment + balancing moisturizer but since I already applied a hair mayo the same day I relaxed it(yesterday), I'm not sure if I can do the two step. What do you think??

@@swisdom9117 Good call. I definitely wouldnt do the Aphogee 2 step on the same day. ORS Hair Mayo is a protein based conditioner. I’d wait at least 3 weeks before applying aphogee 2 step. I always found Aphogee 2 minute reconstructor to be safer and a little easier to use than the 2 step.

@@kristenstikes I agree. As an update, I realize that my hair isn't pulling out as much, and it's actually black and shiny. The slimy feeling has gone since my hair dried. What do you think of this? Also, before my corrective relaxer (I'm thinking of doing a mild no lye, but I'm not sure if tht will rpcess my hair since it's thick af), I will do the two step treatment a week before, then after the relaxer is washed out, I will apply the Olaplex so the already relaxed ends don't take an even harder hit. How does this sound to you? What do you recommend/not recommend?
