I wonder if Afghans like Gulab and the other armed villagers that protected Marcus could have been made into an effective local anti Taliban force. Of course it would come with the risk of weapons landing in the wrong arms and all that, but it may be more effective than arming an essentially corrupt central government where soldiers have little motivation. Imagine the power these villagers would have if they got large weapons from the US and had the ability to coordinate with the US airforce, it may have made the war more manageable and less US boots on the ground would be needed to achieve the same.

What is it with mountainous people being like this? The Appalachians, Chechnyans, Swiss, Kulaks, etc. all of these areas share the exact same attitudes about things like this. “If you harm my guest, you’ll get shot” is a huge thing in those areas. Actually, if you look closely at the beginning of the film, the talibans just randomly get into his village and cut one of his villager head off. Those action caused him to believe that he must help american because it's the only way to help his village to survive, since they'll get protection from US. On the other hand, he didn't help talibans because he believes that whether he helps talibans or not, his villagers will still randomly get killed by talibans in furthermore.

There was only 7 Taliban fighter who wiped out the seals, others where in the are but not at the location of the fight, there’s video footage seized from Taliban fighters by the US forces later on. They didn’t kill dozens as Luttrell claimed, they got hammered by real warriors & didn’t have air support to rescue them as usual, they messed with the wrong people....those same people are now in charge & dictating the term to the Americans who ran away like thieves in the night, 4 “badass” special forces with night vision & satellite intel got humiliated by 7 mountain men with small arms....they’re elite image destroyed. That’s what happens when they get contact from the enemy & no air strike is available to ‘soften’ the target before they go in ‘heroically’ kill the injured & discombobulated survivors of the aerial bombing....real tough guys?

Yes, this is our tradition. There are several USSR soliders still living and married and has family while they were captured in fight. If people in west thinking that we are all killing, No!!! If you dont choose to fight, you are safe. Remember those days that American companies constructing Kajaki dam in Helmand and Kandahar Airport. They and there kids were living there, swiming, playing baseball, making Chritmas parties togather with local Afghans. Dont blame Islam and Muslims. Blame who creat and support teririsum and bloody ISIS.

Watch the video from the insurgent side bro. The real footage shows a whole different story. I’m guessing your same age as me (17 an going to join the corps) watch what it was really like. Watch all the talibans steal from Murphy’s lifeless body while they all take pictures. One even kicks his body before ashad tells him to stop. In the clip one guy was standing over Murphy an said something in their language then said “marine corps” like they thought he was a marine and was proud to kill him. I hope you know how much they hate marines. But yeah just Watch every single clip like that you can find about what War is really like. And you’ll either realize that you don’t wanna do it or you’ll realize what your really gonna get into one day.

It shows how these individuals denounced any cultural and societal patriotism then elevate the importance of humanity as related to LOVE. Hope that we all can model after this act of true love

Absolutely right Jojo G., I wish the American non-Muslim population really knew this of Islam. More importantly I surely wish Muslims and Christians knew and followed the TRUE teachings of their respective religions. "Love thy neighbor" is a universal teaching/truth. Gulab is a shining example of the TRUE teachings found in Islam. What a shame there are very few like him, and as I said...many Christians fail to practice neighborly love and the "Golden Rule." I wish everyone would watch this, and see the shining example of the love God/Allah teaches.

ben wade i dont think that the problem is the religion perse, the real problem is those people in power who are using the religion for their EVIL agenda. Just like example of our some ISLAM leaders that setting the mind of their followers that doing the terrorist attacked to Civilian People was the will of GOD?! While in Catholic side those Clergy who use their for their Sexual desires. If all people just followed their own conscience and always express towards other, maybe it will end the long time struggles of hatred.

That is what war dose to a lot of it's survivors. A lot of the time whether you live or die is luck. The fact that non of the Taliban's ammo his any of his organs, Muhammad Gulab picking him up, loosing his comrades and him living is a combo of his SEAL training and random luck. How ever survivors guilt is a natural way to feel in this kind of situation. Any one who has lost a friend(s) in combat deals with survivors guilt it's a fact of war.
