Lone Survivor - Featurette: "Real Heroes"

Coming Soon
www.lonesurvivorfilm.com
Based on The New York Times bestselling true story of heroism, courage and survival, Lone Survivor tells the incredible tale of four Navy SEALs on a covert mission to neutralize a high-level al-Qaeda operative who are ambushed by the enemy in the mountains of Afghanistan. Faced with an impossible moral decision, the small band is isolated from help and surrounded by a much larger force of Taliban ready for war. As they confront unthinkable odds together, the four men find reserves of strength and resilience as they stay in the fight to the finish.
Mark Wahlberg stars as Marcus Luttrell, the author of the first-person memoir "Lone Survivor," whose book has become a motivational resource for its lessons on how the power of the human spirit is tested when we are pushed beyond our mental and physical limits. Starring alongside Wahlberg as the other members of the SEAL team are Taylor Kitsch, Emile Hirsch and Ben Foster.
Lone Survivor is written and directed by Peter Berg, who again crafts a striking portrait of the unbreakable bonds between men that he first explored in Friday Night Lights.

bingo it takes someone who isn't American to make a comment like mine because America has no honor no value freedom? fuck man are you serious you are like a communist state history lesson? really.... and then the God bit? seriously .... you have a constitution that is written to exclude religion .... maybe you should read up on it....

whatdoyousay5 I didn't expect you to understand the values that we fight for. You seem very angry and bitter and it shows. I hope things get better for you this new year. Just a note to respond to you that our constitution guarantee's our citizens freedom of religion not freedom from religion. I don't want to detract anymore from these great American Heroes that died for our country. I just wonder what kinds of things someone like you would be willing to die for? This is why America will always find a way to preserve our values whether you acknowledge those or not it doesn't matter because we have men and women like these Seals that will continue to risk and give their lives in defense of our country and the good it represents. My intent here was to challenge you with a few ideas. This is the last message from me. OUT!

"There comes the time, to all martyrs. As the executioner's axe comes down, the firing squad lines up, as they take their final breaths, they think, why me? Why must I lay down my life for my God and Country? Why not the man next to me who ran, or the one before him who ran as well? But then they are comforted, they would be remembered. Because after they are gone, they know. Stories will be told about them, songs will be composed to remember their sacrifice. A monument on that battlefield where they made the ultimate sacrifice. Perhaps that is why death on the field of war brings a final calming sense to those men. They will never truly die."

This is an incredible story. I can't contest to the film, which I'm sure is excellent, but in the book Marcus Luttrell speaks about the red tape that he went through to get published. I can't recall the years, but I'm pretty sure this event occurred before we were actually strategically invested in Afghanistan. It was pretty secretive. Legendary shit.

And not only that he stayed up in the tress calling in for C.A.S FOR AIR SUPPORT..FOR Q.R.F..ETC..and was ALWAYS the last one top give covering fire ,,even after been shot 4 times while he was still alive..the man was is a warrior..he never let the guys move without giving them covering fire..he ran out of ammo first because of this not cuz he was trigger happy..he fought his ass off and kept trying to call for help till the com's unit took a round and that was that... i know he got the navy cross which is amazing but i think he should of got the medal of honor too imo.....WE WILL NEVER FORGET YOU SPARTAN 01🖤🐸☠🖤

This movie was so good. I loved it. American Sniper and Lone Survivor have to be my favorite movies of all time. I am planning on trying for the Seal teams. I am just trying to decide whether to join Seals or Marines. I really want to do Seals but the training seems so painful and I don't want to quit. It's hard to make me quit at long term things like BUD/s but it seems so unmerciful. Anyone have any tips on getting through BUD/s? I will be enlisting in some branch of the service in about 3 or so years.

  • @EvLSpectre

    @EvLSpectre

+WarHawk 1368 Hey don't ever quit is all, there will be pain and suffering, but think of the brotherhood your getting into. Training is meant to be that way, finding your weakness, prodding at what makes you tick, seeing how and what you'll do when put under adverse circumstances. I was myself going in to USAF EOD, but I got out of the line due to reasons that are arbitrary now. While my training was not as physical and brutal, it is mentally, knowing a slip up could have dire consequences. I miss it dearly, and I am very happy and proud of the friends I made while in training and happy that they have made it through. Even more so of my two childhood friends, who have made it through PJ and CCT respectively. Would never in my dreams see them as doing those jobs, but they are, and loving it. Go at it man, and never give up.

I saw the movie but I never understood why they didnt tie the shepherds.....one of them mentioned that option (I dont think nobody would've missed them in the village for one day). They would've had enough time to kill the Taliban leader and get the hell out of there....I think it was a risky decision made by Murphy considering the terrain, the comms problems and knowing that the Talibans would move faster than them in those mountains....maybe he was too overconfident that they would outrun those guys in that terrain.....

I haven't read the book and was not even familiar with the story but I can appreciate the idea of fighting for your brother as much as for yourself. Theirs is as honorable an endeavor as any a human can undertake (along with giving birth.) But I am somewhat saddened by the mother @ 1:55 and the lame idea about dying in afghanistan or any other godforsaken and distant shore for freedom and democracy in america. WHAT DEMOCRACY? Cut out the jingoistic non sense. Your boy may have died for friends and heroism but corporate greed and lies put him in the line of fire.

gondito, watch his 60 Minutes interview "Survivor" with Anderson Cooper then listen to the accounts of the battle from the audio book, "Lone Survivor." Both are on KZread. You'll see what I'm referring to.

gondito: The "goat herder" story seems to be lifted straight from a British SAS documentary: "British SAS Special Forces ★ Documentary ★" British SAS Special Forces ★ Documentary ★ At the14:00 mark in the video, British SAS were spotted by herders, etc. Some accounts in the 60 Minutes interview about the battle seem to be in conflict with statements from audio book. The fact that Marcus has a cameo appearance in the movie adaptation raises serious moral questions. Lt. Mike Murphy replied "Thank you" after requesting rescue/support. That's a response somebody might give after having serious cooperation issues with coworkers/underlings. The "Thank you" is almost like saying, "I'm not gonna give into anger/frustration. I'm still gonna be polite." I have instinctive issues with the actions/accounts/resolution of this story. I'm probably wrong, and Marcus is a true hero, but there's a bad feeling about its validity.

Endless Infinity If you pay attention to the statements made by Murph's family (and take the time to watch Murph: The Protector), you'd understand that being polite under even the most tying of circumstances was in his nature. I'm sure at the time Marcus couldn't hear what Murph was saying on his radio call, since he was several yards away, and there was (I'm sure you remember from the book) an endless stream of gunfire coming from the enemy (the whole firefight lasted about three hours, and according to Marcus, the gunfire and RPG's never seemed to let up). I'm sure in his research for the book, trying to piece together what was going on elsewhere, Marcus heard about what Murph said in the radio call, and incorporated it into the timeline from his perspective. And I'm sure in a country with a lot of mountain tribes roaming around with their goats, it must certainly be a rarity that special operations members (SEALs, Rangers, Marine Force Recon...SAS which I know is British but I didn't specify nationality) would ever encounter them.

LOL silly little people like yourself with your silly little unsubstantiated assertions. You just have to ask yourself one question, If we had not gone after those guys there, would they have grown and trained and funded, unimpeded, more aggression against us? It doesn't surprise me that you provided no proof for your assertion and it doesn't surprise me that you answered a question with a question but what does surprise me is the level of ignorance in your ironic assertion. Yes...yes destroying other peoples freedom does remind us of how ours was challenged and how these bad assess went in there to fight for us to maintain it.

Umm that's false i read his book and said nothing about that. He said 180 to 200 talibans. I don't know where you came up with that idea of 8-10 NAKED, i'm pretty sure they were not NAKED. Read the book. It's free on youtube.
