About the movie:
Lone Survivor is a 2013 American biographical war film based on the eponymous 2007 nonfiction book by Marcus Luttrell with Patrick Robinson. Set during the war in Afghanistan, it dramatizes the unsuccessful United States Navy SEALs counter-insurgent mission Operation Red Wings, during which a four-man SEAL reconnaissance and surveillance team was given the task of tracking down the Taliban leader Ahmad Shah. The film was written and directed by Peter Berg and stars Mark Wahlberg, Taylor Kitsch, Emile Hirsch, Ben Foster, and Eric Bana.

Would you consider this movie as realistic? If yes, drop a thumbs-up. If not, explain why in the comments.
From a combat vet from another continent, another time - there are but a few cinematic scenes that trigger the primeval gooseflesh popping, time dilating, endorphin pumping response of deadly combat with a skilled team, and this masterpiece is one of them; along with Platoon (the night ambush) and Fury (killing the young SS Officer 'with the busted wing.') Thank you Peter Berg.

The scene right before the ambush in my experience is about as real as it gets. Throat gets dry, hairs stand up and your senses are heightened more than they will ever be. It's the scariest and most adrenaline packed moment of the fight. Hollywood glamorizes it, but it is nothing to boast about. Politics and bureaucracy go right out the window wants the metal meets than meat.

The soldiers and private contractors have murdered hundreds of thousands.
What's crazy is that I deployed with the 45th Infantry 2006 and this happened in June of 2005. I arrived in the month of June and never even knew this happened. These Navy Seals are amazing and my heart goes out to the families. Went back home to Chico, California and visited the grave of Axelson. As I stood there with tears running down my face saluted him with such honor and respect. The whole town of Chico shut down to honor Axelson and his bravery.

SEALs got routed and the Taliban destroyed them because they made ill planning and preparation for the operation. The Afghani who rescued Luttrell(?) has very different events of what happened on the mountain and says that Luttrell had full combat load and had abandoned his fellow SEALs. The Taliban combat footage available online supports this story too.

The sound made this better. The clean dry gun fight add realism, but lacked emotional involvement for me. With the sound, the scene means more to me now. True the music is a little to load and to high pitch if the music was behind the the fight it would be better
although the movie is very good, in reality the deaths of his comrades were far more heartbreaking. Danny, the guy who died on the top of the cliff in the movie, in reality took a bullet to the face and died in Marcus's arms. Mikey, the guy who made the phone call on the outcropping, was gunned down by the Taliban while screaming for Marcus to save him. the only death they got right was Axe's. him and Marcus were hit with an rpg, and the blast blew Marcus over into a ditch. Marcus didn't see Axe die, but he thought that he couldn't have lived through the grenade blast. however, when Axe's body was discovered days later, he had only one magazine left in his pistol. he had started with a lot more magazines. his face was blasted open by AK-47 fire. Marcus surmised that Axe had fired his pistol at the Taliban until they finally overcame him. Still a very good movie. EDIT: After further research, I am now convinced Marcus made most of this up. Military intelligence reported only 8-10 Taliban in the area, not 200 as Marcus claims. Also, no Taliban bodies were ever found, and the Taliban didn't report any casualties. When Mohammed Gulab rescued Marcus, he had all 11 magazines left, which means he wasn't constantly returning fire like he claimed in his book. Of course, being ambushed and quickly wiped out wouldn't make for a good story, so when he wrote his book (which he co wrote with Patrick Robinson, who was, get this, a novelist), he embellished the story to make it more exciting and heroic. I still think it's a good movie, but it's as accurate as Braveheart. Great movie!
"Marcus Luttrell and three Navy SEALs are sent to locate Taliban leader Ahmad Shah in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan" but the fact is whole america failed to defeat the talibans and american soldier flee from afghanistan and now taliban rule on whole afghanistan.
I have the upmost respect for our military and the SEALS. However I think it's unfortunate that Hollywood and the news outlets is bringing them into the spot light. A huge portion of the SEAL community is outraged on it as well. It takes away the "quiet professional" aspect of the job which is what the SEAL team has been about since they were founded. Movies/games that portray these scenes disclose their tactics and other information they would not want anyone to know.

I don't think you've done your research check your research first before making lies. You are on of them people that believe everything that the media tells them and no 4 seals couldn't last a gunfight with 8-10 Taliban as was proven in real life if you have been in a real battle you would know that even if the enemy has one more person than you it makes it a ton lot harder you probably think that there were like 300 Taliban fighters against these four loool the way people can be brainwashed so easy always use your brain
