Hero. His actions are what the Medal of Honour or our Victoria Cross (UK - which my great-uncle won in WW1) are awarded for. Usually posthumous (in my great-uncle's case too) and for doing something where they were pretty much guaranteed to die but they did it anyway because by doing it there was a chance they could save some of their men or buddies' lives. Selfless heroism. That's what Lt. Murphy displayed.

Hollywood also didnt want to show that he had all of magazines on his vest(full) when they found him. Among other things like; they only fought something like a 12 man fireteam. Also that they for some reason sped away and landed way to close to the target, outpacing the Apaches so they had no air support. That is just some of the fuck ups on this mission.

I was in Iraq during my first deployment when this happened. It was a damn sad day when we got word. I read the book during my third deployment. I’m not a big reader but I was absolutely hooked. I cried almost the whole book while also feeling blessed that we have real super heroes on our side that can do what those teams do. Prayers go out to the person you addressed at the beginning of this video.

This is the first of three true story movies that Mark Wahlberg and director Peter Berg teamed up to do. The next two were Deepwater Horizon (about the BP oil rig explosion in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010) and then Patriots Day (about the 2013 Boston Marathon Bombing). Highly recommend both of them.

The most horrific part of this story to me is that in an interview, Marcus said that the movie got a part wrong and that after Michael Murphy made the call, he got pinned down and was screaming for Marcus. Marcus said that he couldn’t reach him and couldn’t stand to hear his best friend screaming for him so much and almost shut down. Thank God that we have men like this who voluntarily endure things so awful and horrible just so the rest of us don’t have to.

It’s devastating to listen to and watch Marcus in thst interview! SEALs are brain washed to not feel emotion. Pain, regret, sorrow, stuff it all down deep inside , so when you see a SOCOM Tier 2 Navy SEAL that’s done all he’s done , truly some of the very toughest , most skilled and deadly war fighters on earth , to see him break down when he says “I could stand to see him die, he was my best friend, men don’t say I love you to each other but when I see him again soon, it’s the first thing I’ll tel him.” I get so emotional hearing thst and seeing his tears well up and him choke up. Hearing him describe him screaming his name and then how he calls himself a coward for giving up at one point just killed me, when the interviewer says a coward!??? How can you possibly say that!?? And Marcus dead straight face with full conviction says what do u mean? Not grasping how the interviewer doesn’t see that at cowardice and Marcus says becasue it IS cowardice, not continuing to fight is a cowardice act! You can tell he believes that, that’s soenthing rammed into them in SEAL training. You NEVER give up no matter what. So tragic he served as a SEAL all those deployments and went though what he did and somehow sees those few moments of delay as cowardice and regrets it so deeply. He hd a broken back , fractured femur and pelvis broken arm and concave trauma to his nose, but his youngest in half and swallowed it which put him unconscious choking on it, he crawled 7 miles with those injured and all the physical mass head trauma and gun shot wounds , all to survive to fight another day and somehow he seems to focus so much on thaosenfew moments of jsut being a human and not a machine. Seeing his brother killed warrants a human moment. I’ve always wondered why they got that part so wrong , a part that’s so critical to the story. He says none of his team died alone , he was with each of them when they died , that’s tragic and honorable so for the movie to portray 2 of his team killed alone by themselves is a stupid change to the real event. Marcus only agreed to let the story be told if he was an advisor to get it right so it honors his brothers so I’m confused how he didn’t put his foot down on such an emotionally important detail. There’s a video on KZread that was done before lone survivor and it’s the rescue helicopter , crew and pararescuemen that actually got Marcus out and into their helo and it’s UNREAL! The village was on a cliff side not a valley floor and the rescue was a night and when the helicopter began to decend there was nowhere to land and it kicked up so much dust the pilots experienced a brown out , zero visibility at night in a dust cloud and had to hover 3 feet from the rotors hitting the house , the pilot ended up being able to see ONLY a hanging potted plant in a window of the home swinging and he focused on only thst for 12 minutes holding a hover 3 feet from a building and 1,200 foot cliff below them if he hit the home. The pararescuemen jumped from the helicopter over the 1200 foot fall between the cliff and helo not being able to see the cliff , leap of faith and then breached the home where Lutrell and the father and son were and they did some extensive verification process before helping him to the still hovering helo thst was taking fire. The entire flight to thst spot was wild too, the air support had to leave early so the chinook was again on its own. It’s an AMAZING part of the story that is left out of the movie . Would have been cool to add another 15 minutes and show how the rescue actually went down and show these hero pilot and the pararescuemen thst were 100% selfless taking on the entire enemy force by themselves to get him out. The pilot crew and pararescuemen volunteered for that rescue mission knowing they wouldn’t have any air suport by the time they got there and would be outnumbered and under fire and didn’t blink about going all in. The pilot said he truly believed they were all going to die when the brown out happened, he said it’s impossible to perform a controlEd hover in a brownout not to mention on a cliff side and 3 feet from the building but said IF we didn’t try , Marcus would have been killed by the time we could remount another attempt so everyone on board agreed in the moment they had to try. If they hit the building and fell 1,200 feet to their deaths or took rounds and crashed , they did all they could to get him. Such amazing dedication, to consciously have the pilot , co pilot , engineer, gunner and 2 pararescuemen not think twice about aborting the rescue, risking ALL their lives with assured death when all the odds were against them, to jsut try to recover a single soldier! There’s nothing like that military commitment and brotherhood. Putting your fellow soldiers lives above your own always. Amazing!

@@chrisatf8973 it’s on KZread, there’s several that are all good. The one he’s talking about I believe is an interview with a church pastor , a speaking event , another one is speaking to a high school football team where he goes into detail about his injuries which are wild! And then there’s another interview he did shortly after the movie came out with the white haired MTV interviewer that moved to 20/20 or soenthing like that. Thst ones devastating, you can see his hurt and pain and he calls himself a coward becasue he stopped fighting right after his best friend was killed. Just for a few minutes , after watching all 3 teammates killed he says he’s a coward for crumbling for those couple minutes. It’s heart breaking and I can’t understand how he can think that except that the SEAL training trains them to never ever stop fighting so he believes in those moments he failed. The interviewer is a psychologist I believe and argues with him about saying he’s a coward, he tells him he’s not a machine, he experienced massive physical and emotional trauma , watched his 3 best friends die horrible deaths and for 2 minutes his human emotions broke him from his fight trance and then marcus truly looks confused, he can’t understand how the interviewer doesn’t see it as cowardice and says , I say thst becasue it was a cowardous act, putting your rifle down in a gunfight is a cowardice act. All 3 interviews and speeches are AMAZING and five more detail , I HIGHLY recommend everyone watch them. Jsut search “Marcus Lutrell - Lone survivor interview -speach” you’ll see them in there and 4 of them are amazing and all add different things so worth seeing all 4

Seeing 18 SEALs, PJs and the Chinook crew fall from the sky and just crumble against the mountain stunned the hell outta me. It's one of those scenes that is imprinted in your mind forever.

Man I'm a minute and a half into your video and while I cant say I have experienced anyhting like what that gentleman is going through and hope to god I never experience anything like that, I've experienced my own issues and all I can say to you is thank you for your great attitude during your reactions. You're a blast to watch every time and your excitement is genuine. That said, it seems like this kind of thing has been the theme of the day for me. The first video I saw linked on a forum today just hit me in the gut and was very cathartic and I spent all day thinking about it. Then I get on to my youtube reactor channels and the first guy announces that his own daughter is now going through something that no one in their family has ever had and hes just asking for thoughts and prayers. So many people are having a tough day, week, month, year, decade and its incredibly helpful for those in pain to check out of life for a moment, sit back and watch someone else experience the same joy/sadness/fear/nervousness or whatever that they once felt while watching a movie. When I first got into reaction videos I was confused how they were even a thing. It sounded really stupid to be honest but theres little that I find more enjoyable online now than watching people have a great time checking out great songs and movies. Its definitely not a self serving thing you're doing here, so thank you brother.

I love how it goes into the real lives lost and their families etc, does them an amazing service! The movie Alone at Dawn or whatever it will be called will be comming out next year documenting SEAK Niel Roberts and uSAF CAC John Chapman’s horrific but unbelievably heroic fight in Afgansitan that got him 2 Medals of Honor taking on 26 very trained mercenaries on his own while mortally wounded , all to push the fight and save the men on the QRF Incomming actually crawling out of his bunker positioning himself in the open between the Chinook landing and the other enemy bunker, he drew the fire to himself and kept heads down knowing his life was done. He fought for hours alone mortally wounded , in shock , high altitude , below freezing temps in thigh deep snow with 16 bullet wounds by the end . The only way he was killed was the 16th round pierced his heart. The whole operation was a cluster fuck from the beginning and a tragic disaster of events similar to those in Operation Red Wing. An Airforce combat controller vet with 12 years of special operations service wrote Johns story of the event and he’s been brought on to advise to get it right like Marcus and this. I’m greatful they’re going to show this other remarkable unreal event. If you haven’t heard of it Google John Chapman first ever recorded Medal of Honor on KZread , it’s CIA real drone footage of most of the fight. It’s a tear jerker tho

8th Grade on youtube, Watching everything I can on military and special operations I come across a man giving a talk/speech. It was Marcus Luttrell telling what happened to him,his team and fellow BIA's.Even seeing some of the filmed propaganda footage of the aftermath before it was taken down mostly by google. Anyways, I stopped reading for a while, but I somehow got a copy per my Dad of Lone Survivor. I read that book 15 times, because every word and sentence of it resonated with me. I ended up telling people about it ,having them read it. I decided to do a huge report /project in my Literature class about what happened, Lone Survivor,Socom,Devgru and Navy seals in general on a giant poster board. It solidified everything I already saw and went through when I was a little kid surprisingly but also taught me a lot of things as well. That book if read by every one of my classmates and young kids today probably would help all the junk going on nowadays in some way. So though not perfect or right with everything surrounding what happened, it also reminded me & opened my eyes to the absolute truth of the struggle & fight that the few of us left that are God Fearing Americans go through on a daily basis. Great review! Many Thank's -Dave R.

Ok but there is footage of the attack and has the team screaming at Marcus to come back cause he was running away, not to mention Mohammad Gulab (the afghan who saved him) says how much the movie gets wrong from how the reason they got caught was because they spared those civilians (which was untrue) or how they actually didn’t even kill a single taliban on that mountain, or how he had every bit of ammo he brought with him on that mission (further showing his cowardice), I’m not saying that I wouldn’t have ran away either, but granted I’m not trained for this. My issue is that he decided to lie and profit off the deaths of his squad instead of tell the truth, and then cheat Mohammad Gulab by inviting him to the US just for this cash grab of a movie and cut all ties with him after he asks him about the inaccuracies of the movie. It was the only time in my life I've ever felt "star struck" as I had read the book the previous year. He signed my book "Never Quit". He also was still obviously dealing with the after effects of this event 5 years later. In addition, I've also sent my condolences to Michael Murphy's father Dan who was so gracious to respond to my comment. He thanked me for my comments and for remembering his "Buddy Boy". "Pashtunwali" is the term for why those villagers helped him. They believe all people are deserving of being offered help if its needed, regardless of what side they're on. Real story, you (maybe?) missed the closing scene where it shows after being rescued and recovering, he was able to visit that village and the family again to thank them.
