London Underground model railway build 9 - NEW SECTION! Constructing the dive under baseboards

Ойын-сауық

Im back! I have been creating a LOT of mess in the layout room and not running any trains!!
Here is why….. the much awaited next stage of the layout has begun!
If you wondered how i was going to use the big ballast yard area next to the canal - here you go!
These new baseboards i have built allow the initial dive-under to connect up to a second, which will allow a return loop branch line to be added, along with access to the yard i am going to build.
There arent any trains running in this update im afraid, ive just been too busy!
We will have to test it all out soon though, so watch this space.
Thanks for tuning in, leave your comments below!

    It’s looking excellent Eric, thank you for sharing your process with us. I would vote to extend the scenery, but then I’m not the one who has to do it. As one other commenter mentioned, the way the lines cut under one another is truly reminiscent of real life. Thanks again and very best wishes.

    Good work Eric, glad you forgot the cross over to a double slip (even not used, can be interacted later) 12-13 wagon ballast train is still large in OO! The gentle incline takes the eye away from a flat base board + deciving the eye from the rest of the railway.

  • @UndergroundEric

    Cheers bud, yeah should be long enough to give the right feel i think, most of the other trains are only 2/3rds scale length if not half anyhow so should do nicely

    Extending the scene seems best idea maybe have just the road go all the way over with long foot arches. Would look interesting across multiple levels and give a look of the King’s Cross approaches and other areas in central London and some areas of Birmingham with roads and railways at lots of different heights like it’s been intertwined as things got added over the years always thought that sort of area made a great urban modelling challenge with different ages and colour of brick and wear. Keep up the great work. Most enjoyable update as usual

    Contrary to those commenting so far on the possibility of extending the scene outwards, I say 'nay'; doing so would remove the visual image of a train exiting the 'tunnel' and grinding its way up the _whole length_ of the incline rather than playing hide-and-seek. For trains that are longer than the wagon capacity of a single yard track, another option could be to 'double over' the train; that is breaking the train to leave excess wagons on the mainline then coming back for them after the leading wagons have been shunted into the yard using the head shunt.

  • @UndergroundEric

    @UndergroundEric

    Yeah its such a tough one isnt it? As i love the street scene up top but its a bit small so be nice to extend it, but as you say it sacrifices the lower level looking as interesting. Thanks for the comment

  • @MarchWestJunctionTMD
    @MarchWestJunctionTMD Жыл бұрын

    Looking good Eric 👍 The incline being so gradual looks a realistic drop. Will be great when it’s finished and would be a fantastic photo opportunity as the train climbs. I would blend it into one scene as that would look like a London sprawl of how the lines cut under each other. Andy

    I would suggest to extend the scene further. I think it would probably be kinda similar to maybe the tracks between Farringdon and Kings Cross where there are also multiple levels of track in a trench between all the buildings. Great video again, really enjoyed it.

    Extending the town scene over the new section is the way to go in my humble opinion. I'm thinking where the pic goes underground between barons court and West Kensington. I used to drive on the district line and always thought that part would make a cool model. Brilliant update as always, good job Eric ❤

  • @UndergroundEric

    @mark5439

    @@UndergroundEric The blocks of flats next to the railway in Kensington are well below the level of the bridge. Bear in mind the bridge is way over the district line and the pic line goes further underground there. On the layout, the road leaving station could turn left and not cross the rails. Hard to explain without you seeing what I'm getting at
