London Transport 1278LD a Leyland Breakdown Tender restoration

Музыка

Built on a Leyland PD3/1A chassis with bodywork by Man Egerton this breakdown tender was originally allocated in 1964 to Neasden Underground Depot along with 1279LD. Eventually LT realised that two such vehicles were not required at Neasden soChiswick Works replaced the LT Urgent sign on the cab roof with a standard yellow beacon. Two towing eyes were added, front and rear, and then it was allocated to Cricklewood bus garage.
1278LD eventually found itself used by a traveller family in Brigg
The Leyland O680 engine has completed just 30,000 miles over the sixty years of its existence. The engine runs quieter than the power steering pump which emits a loud hum. That is one of a number of relatively small jobs yet to be carried out by the volunteer restoration team.
We are now looking for a good home where is will be appreciated, Expressions of interest should be sent to barrycoward@gmail.com

hi there, i used to work for LT. i remember this parked outside Baker st station many years ago, it was a emergeny response vehicle, don't know why it did not go in to the museum when finished with, well done for bringing it back to life, great memories, i think it had a Leyland 0.600 engine,

Actually this one was allocated to Neasden Depot along with1279. Eventually it was decided that two vehicles atNeasden was one too many. 1278 went to Chiswick Works had the LT Urgent" sign removed and a single yellow beacon fitted. Two towing eyes were fitted and then it went to Cricklewood Bus Garage,

Very similar front to the Albion Lowlander buses from the early 1960's.
