A Martin Wallace game with loans? What a shock!

Love the art. Game looks beautiful. I'm liking this trend of reprinting Wallace games (Brass, as well) with tweaked mechanics and beautiful art and components to expose new players to his games. I hope it continues!

Rodney is one of the classiest youtubers out there. I find it so elegante the way he handles all situations. Whether it´s a goof or criticism, he does it well :)

martin Wallace's HIT Z ROAD from 2016 was tragically underappreciated. This looks good, too!

London is a great game, one of my all time favorites. Thanks for the excellent video! I was disappointed to hear that the reprint was doing away with the city board and replacing the area control aspect of the game with Borough cards. However, I think I actually may like it better now that you've demonstrated how the change works. The updated artwork and card design is very nice too. I plan on getting a copy after watching this.

Thanks for the great How to Play, as per usual. One quick question though, at around 10:40 shouldn't another poverty cube be added? Due to the black cube with the plus symbol on the bottom right corner of the district. I believe it was said, just before, the districts activate when you run your city, Thanks again, all the best.

Yep, you're absolutely right. In this example I was explaining the general rules for poverty when you run your city, so I didn't address that specific card effect. I really should have put another borough on screen to prevent confusion, or at least re-said what I had just mentioned in the previous scene.

Hi, Great video, but I've a doubt. In minute 8:50 with the card "Police Force", both effects of the cards could be done when you run your city? Or, you must to choose one of them? (Between the top one or the bottom one divided by the line with the point in the center) We play choosing one of them, but maybe we're playing wrong. Congratulations for the great video

Hi Rodney! Amazing video, as always. Rules question: Let's say I take a develop city action and I cover a face up card on a stack with a new one. When I later run my city, do I activate both of them or only VISIBLE face up cards can be activated? I'm assuming it's the latter. What about Omnibus which gathers coins during the game. If I cover it with another card then I guess all those coins are lost right? Thanks!

Only the topmost, face up card is activated when you run your city. If you cover the Omnibus, you lose all the coins that were on it.

Wow, interesting change with the removed map. This is unexpected! Rodney, in the old rules, you discard cards to the top row, and when that's full, to the bottom row, and when that's full, you discard the top row (containing the oldest discarded cards). In your video at 4:45, the bottom row (with the newer cards) is discarded instead of the top row. Is this a change for this edition?

I haven't played the original, but I can tell you that the way it's shown here, is how this edition works.

Thanks for making a point that the game’s currency is pounds. Too many reviewers refer to game currency as “dollars” or “bucks” irrespective of the actual name of the currency; it’s lazy and unprofessional. Not a major issue but just a pet hate of mine. Another great tutorial video. You may or may not be surprised to learn that I have based many of my game purchases on whether you have produced a tutorial video for it. You should be on commission!

I'm sure I've slipped up on this in the past (it's an easy mistake to make when you have certain currencies ingrained in your head), but glad I managed to do it right here :)

I own the original version of this game. That also had Underground stations you could put on your boroughs for extra points. I assume that has been removed from this game?

There are Underground station cards, but they've been modified to work with this games version of the boroughs.

So can you develop your city before purchasing a borough? Or must you own a borough to develop it?

Is there a limit on the number of poverty cubes, coins, loans, or other components? I didn't find this in the rulebook?

Nope, no limits.

This is one of those times that one of your videos makes us want to buy the game. It seems really interesting but it seems like a bit overpriced (at 55€ here in Greece).

I never played the original, and I avoid reviewing, but I suspect it will depend on what you like in games. For some it will be an improvement, and others might prefer the old map. For me it was a way to discover a classic game I had never tried before. From what I understand about the map, by using cards, you'll now have more varied games, because you won't have the same fixed layout every time. But again, it'll depend on what you personally like and prefer.

So Wallace got rid of the useless board (the boring part of the game). Great news! :) The tableau building system in this game worked great, I can't wait to try out the second edition.

Been awhile since I shot this, but if the video doesn't say to remove any for a 2 player game, then you don't - hope that helps!

We are loving this game. Very challenging to strategize!! One question. The rule book in “Developing Your City” says that if a card has an “ongoing ability” it comes into effect as it is placed in the building display, and ceases to be in effect as soon as the card is flipped face down or is covered by another card. I don’t know what this means. Is this referring to effects that do not have an activation cost?

There are a couple days (I think one is called Shop), that have an ability that is ongoing. It says something along the lines of "each time you add a building to your area, add a coin to this card"). Once the shop is flipped over or covered up, that effect would end.

Watch It Played Huh? Days? Cards? Yes, shop, I know it has an affect that says add a coin for each card you add. If you think of any others, let me know. I looked through, and I did not see any that seemed to make any sense to be immediately effective. That one, we did right, because I did play it, and I played it first and then added three more cards so I got three pounds added right away. I ran my city the next turn, so it was flipped.

Hmmn, I don't remember getting poverty for loans in the old edition? Do I remember wrong or is this to counter buying the burrows early to avoid poverty? This new version looks amazing

You remember correctly. The old version had no poverty penalty for loans. I suspect it is a change to balance out the changes to the Burroughs and/or It might also be a change to incentivize early repaying of loans. In the original, even though you could repay loans early, there were zero strategic situations where that made sense. Best case you broke even, worse case you repaid 15 pounds for your loan and then had to take a loan in a later turn which would put you in a worse position than if you just waited until the end of game to pay your loans.

Are they republishing this game? Isn't it OOP?
