To be more precise, this Kang was Immortus, a really old variant of himself who was tired of being a dictator of time and wanted to stop his younger counterpart(s) to bring peace.

So, basically He Who Remains is a "good" variant of Kang. He spent eons protecting the Sacred Timeline from Kang The Conqueror( his most evil variant).

Kind of, each one probably has the same goal but goes about it different ways. The new Kang that comes out victorious will decide the new sacred timeline, which will probably end up being a lot darker this time lol. But the end result is the same, one tyrant Kang left standing after conquering the other timelines. Then he dies at the end time and the process repeats itself infinitely.

You gotta feel for Loki. The first person he ever opened his heart to betrayed him and his best friend doesn’t know who he is. 😢

We may get one or two more variants throughout Phase 4 for the Young Avengers, Fantastic 4, or the Thunderbolts to defeat. I think Immortus could be his final form for Avengers 5.

When Sylvie asks “just what are you afraid of” Kang says “me” let that sink in. A man that knows everything about every timeline in the cosmos, and other versions of himself scare him the most.

It's not predetermined Suraj it's just time travel. He's travelled back (and across) to make sure he wins. Each time Sylvie attacked him, there's a timeline that each attack hit him and he died. He then knew which steps to take to stay 1 step ahead of dying. This would be the less tyrannical version of Kang, that kept only his winning timeline open (the winner writes the truth).

Exactly such an easy concept, but you're the first person I've seen that got it. It's like playing the same level in a game after your 5th loss, with each loss you get better because of hindsight and you can have a later savepoint of sorts. Imho this is directly related to the scene of Ravonna taking those documents and getting the hell out of dodge. It's very clear to me that HWR was the one that actually created the multiverse, by giving Ramonna just the right info for her to get into contact with his own 31st century self and give him an advantage in the "Kang race". If she gives him enough info for him to stay one step ahead of the other variants he can both survive and take out the ones that he needs to, plus he can also make the necessary changes in the next cycle so he will come on top again. Like for example not creating the time keepers and hiding himself. He who remains is directly responsible for Kang the Conqueror. He WAS chill af because he had already taken precautions in case the Lokis decided to kill him. Either way he knows he wins. This is also obvious when you stop to notice the timeline was branching way before Sylvie or Loki did anything different. (Probably due to Ramonna doing what she needed to).

But by knowing, it becomes predetermined. Immortus there legit had a book of everything they would say and do and they could not veer from that path. It doesn't matter HOW he ended up knowing what they'd do, the simple act of knowing it prior, thus they had no free will to act against it, makes it predetermined.

I don’t think this is true for a couple reasons: 1. His world seems to be out of time completely, literally at the end of it. 2. He can’t have variants, that’s literally the whole point of his plan. 3. If he had died he can’t travel back and avoid it, he’d be dead. To me this implies that it is all predetermined, and as he says he literally knows everything up until the point of crossing the threshold. He is just as much a slave as anyone else.

@@drudle That isn't how determinism works. Knowing doesn't magically change it and make it predetermined. All those TLs with him dying also happened. He just erased them. It's like claiming a species of tree doesn't have branches just because you cut them off before they grow and no one gets to see them. It still has branches. The very fact that Immortus has free will means it isn't predetermined because he himself has free will. For it to be predetermined, even he would need to not have free will.

Ravonna Renslayer saying “it can’t all be for nothing” shows what her character is all about. She can’t remember who she was, her “glorious purpose” is devoting herself to what is essentially the TVA religion. She is so devoted to her newfound faith because it provides an answer that someone questioning that faith is her enemy.

@@iwillcry no they meant it was a test to see if they were worthy of taking the place over but he knew their answer. That's why he made them "change by the journey". In the end their decision to take over or kill him was AFTER his knowledge.

& to note - this makes the end credit scene of WandaVision make sense, when she's studying that book (can't remember the name right now) and she hears her kids calling to her..... It's because of the timelines branching!!

Season 4 is absolutely peak television. I love watching reactors start watching it with preconceptions formed by people like you, and then usually around season 2-3 start saying "holy shit, why didn't anyone tell us this show was this good?!" Happens like clockwork, including on this channel

@@ChildOfTheWilderness in the 2015(?) secret wars yeah but many secret wars started since the 80s with later on hulks intelligent evil persona of himself meastro later controls battleworld. which after that event one of the major arcs to happen is spiderman having the symbiote which would become venom. which should be a possible hint for mcu when peter gets involved with the universe war and battleworld high chance he may get the symbiote if by then disney/marvel makes a deal with sony to allow venom and symbiotes exist in mcu.

I wouldn't classify that ending as a 'cliffhanger'. That was a 'gamechanger'. A cliffhanger has someone left in certain peril. This was just setup for the next plot, after having resolved the main conflict of the season. Leaving some details open doesn't make it a cliffhanger.

The writing in this series is truly metatextual. The characters talk about how they want to find the man behind the curtain. When Loki sees the fate he was supposed meet at the hands of Thanos, he finds out that he was a character in a larger story. Mobius tells him that rather than a hero who becomes a king, he is a villain whose purpose is to allow heroic characters to become their best selves. He admits to playing a role as a villain when Mobius calls him on his cruel behavior. He sees himself as the monster that people warn their children about. In the finale, Sylvie and Loki refuse the devil's deal that Miss Minutes offers them. Loki tells her that they write their own destiny. Renslayer scoffs at Mobius in his appeal to free will, but then leaves him in search of it. Later, when it becomes possible for He Who Remains to be killed, Loki refuses to kill him because he senses that doing so will start a new cycle of predetermined timelines spawning an infinite number of Kangs. Sylvie is so bent on revenge that she ignores this warning and kills He Who Remains. When she kills him, she is playing the role that he had already written for her.

It took me a couple of seconds to realize he was the same guy who was casted as Kang for Ant Man 3. Not too familiar with his work that’s why.

I can't believe so many viewers were expecting to see Kang in this show as this big, towering, god-like being, with a booming voice and lighting cracking behind him. We got little drips and drabs of Thanos over the course of 6 years. This was just a soupçon, a hint, a trace of what we can expect from Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror.

Everything was answered, the multiverse has been open, literally everything is canon This takes us to What if?, spider-verse and then Multiverse of Madness Bet you it won't end there, probably in Thor 4 more Thors and one dies giving Mjolnir to Jane, eventually leading to Secret Wars, this was huge, extremely huge

And really, we have 3 major plots building right now: the Multiverse, Skrulls becoming more prominent, and whatever is happening Earth-side with Val (and the Power Broker). At the end B-15 says does he wants to let the timelines branch. She was referring to that version of Kang or Kang the conqueror we know from the comics wanting to defeat all the variants of himself to rule over the entire multiverse. We are not going to see the comic Kang just like every single character we've gotten in the MCU isn't their comic version. They're their own version.

I didn’t actually expect kang or at least a version of him but they made it work. Going forward I was more in awe of this reveal than Luke at the end of mandalorian.

So, now when I’m thinking about Selvie she reminds me Ferro Maljin from Abercrombies book-cycle. As Loki said, he is the one, who cannot be trusted. But, as we saw in the end, he’s not. He became something bigger than that, something different from that envious trickster we all known. Now his allies can trust him. And what about Selvie? She is the Loki, that «couldn’t trust anyone else». And she didn’t changed. She faced the pure love of Loki and trusted him, but has no inner strength to handle that feeling of trust that he put at her. And that’s why she destroys their relationship. Because it’s still to scary to trust somebody, even if she knows that he’s not lying to her.

After watching many reactions I believe the the "Threshold" was as far as Kang knew and he hated that. His power comes from knowing what happens and uses it to win, and the scared timeline was what he knew worked to always win and the beaches where deviating from his "script" and would let him be "He who remains". The TVA is just his way of making it easier to remaining in the shadows. Whatever path the take going forward......is going to be amazing

I'm fine with the MCU being "predetermined" as it always was. Peter Parker was always going to be spiderman, Tony Stark was always going to be Ironman and Thanos was always going to lose in Endgame. It's the basic heros journey that's been copied a million times.

I'm gonna chalk it up to how much everyone dislikes Renslayer that you would suggest her character isn't developed well. By the end we know exactly what she is. A company man, she's drunk all the Kool aid, someone who will sacrifice even a friend to what they believe to be "the greater good", a true glorious purpose. She's an antagonist, but definitely not evil. Now that little animated clock, that's evil!

You guys do realize with the multiverse that the predeterminism is now out the window now right. Time is complex concept and with the multiverse being a thing now, it means that it is a thing in the past as well. All the branches are branching off from all on the timeline, not just from now in the story to the future, in the past as well.

Jonathan Majors has been confirmed as Kang for a while now, he will be the main villain in Antman and the Wasp: Quantumania Jonathan Majors (Kang the Conqueror) and Wunmi Mosaku(Hunter B-15) are both in Lovecraft Country btw, such a trippy show.

i don't think there'es only one TVA since we were shown a version of Hunter B-15 and Mobius who were both aware of Loki's plan saying "no turning back now". the b-15 and mobius loki talked to at the end seemed confused about the branching timelines compared to the versions showed to us watching the monitor.

There are multiple TVAs. The TVA isn't actually outside of time.

I REALLY think that Each branch has their own TVA!!! This is awesome and the show and the MCU have an infinite number options now available. Phase 4 could be beyond AMAZING 🤩

Chris hit the mark the closest, i think- in Sylvie's frame of reference, she hadn't already killed Kang. In Loki and everyone else's frame of reference, that benevolent Kang was always/already dead. Time, esp in a scenario like this, is tough to get your mind around.

I love the fact that when Kaang is first introduced it's Immortus. And we had the chance to not meet his evil version but then this hope got destroyed. When Mobius didn't recognize Loki I first thought it was just another one but then I saw the statue.... Heartbreaking

This version/variant of "Kang" is most likely based on Immortus. It's not Kang the Conqueror. It will be fun to see Jonathan Majors try out some different versions of Kang in the future of the MCU (including Kang the Conqueror)

Love the philosophical discussion. Love how Marvel created a show that encourages such a discussion.

I have to agree with Sylvie, because in the beginning of the show we knew that the TVA was the only thing keeping the multiverse from existing, and destroying them would create the multiverse and the multiverse war, so Kang telling him that more will come with war doesn't change anything, there would still be free will and that was always the end goal. ❤️ 🖤 🖤 🖤

The summary on the beginning of the video was hilarious!

Sylvie betrayed loki feelings For not believing him. She kept asking him "Will you betray me, will you betray me" In the end she betrayed him. And this will change loki (Tom) And she started secret wars.

One point that you seemed to have miss is about "what make this timeline the one to use": It's the timeline of the one who remains. He said that the war forced people to defend their timeline.

Many people new Jonathan Majors was casted as Kang, and thus new he was Kang (or a variant of Nathanial Richards) as soon as the elevator opened. Interesting perspective to see a group that had to piece it together. It's also not completely pre-determinism. When we see the CGI of the sacred timeline, it's not just one straight line. It's a thick-tangled mess of lines that weave together, but stick close enough that the proper flow of time continues. It's only for large nexus events that the TVA prunes it, like the branches we see spurting out. One of the things this explains is why Steve Rogers was allowed to live in another timeline with Peggy, it's clear him doing so did not alter the course of events enough to risk multiversal war.

Kang’s real name is Nathaniel Richards a descendant of Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic), he is a scientist from the 40th century who used future tech to conquer a lot of times except the times where the Avengers where around

season 2 will likely be Loki's perspective during Multiverse of Madness

I think that's my favorite skit! I was dying!

Another thought I had: we have expanded SO MUCH since Phase 1. The movies were already pretty cosmic with Thor 1-3 and Guardians 1 & 2. But that was just different planets across galaxies. And then Infinity War happened and we saw a war over the Infinity Stones, stones that controlled nothing less than time itself and the very building blocks of reality. Then with Endgame, we were introduced to time travel. And now, with this, we have been given the MULTIVERSE ITSELF. Like, literally anything is possible now. This is how we get Fantastic Four. This is how we get X-Men. This is how that Spider-Man meme literally comes to life.

It’s not Kang. The one who remains is Immortus, who is one of the many versions of Nathaniel Richards, including Kang, Rama-Tut, Iron Lad and the Scarlet Centurion. In the comics Kang was at war with the Time Keepers and Immortus worked for the Time Keepers but not the TVA.

The only reactors that didn’t jump at the sight of Kang, wow. So, kang in the mcu is (was) “he who remains” and in antman 3 we will see the variant “kang the conqueror, cool. And by the way sylvie kinda fucked un everything, a true loki.

Sylvie indeed started What If😍😍😍 I was very impressed with this episode, mainly due to Johnathan Majors… he CARRIED

@@yogo8617 I was talking more about the repercussions. Like, Quill got emotional and stopped thinking rationally thus causing the disappearances of half the universe. while Sylvie, being driven by emotion probably caused an unfathomable amount of actual casualties.

The branches from after she killed him were seen by B-15and Mobius first in the control room; they were watching and spoke about "no turning back now" and "who said anything about turning back". In the final scene, a different Mobius and B-15 were reacting to the same moment at the same time, but they were confused and didn't know Loki. Both versions of Mobius and B-15 existed at the same moment, meaning there are multiple TVAs.

If the TVA is outside of time and singular, the first scene of them in the control room wouldn't have existed, because it wouldn't have happened -- unless it happened in a separate version/timeline.
