Loituma Q&A 2 with Hanni and Timo
Музыка
Loituma website: www.loituma.fi.
On this video we talk about how the arrangement of Ievan polkka was formed and about the origin of the idea for an a cappella version. We also talk about some side effects, like how has the song and it's fame changed our lives.
Here are the questions that appear in this video:
0:20 How you guys came up with the arrangement? How long did it take to figure out an a cappella for Ievan Polkka?
2:03 How long did it take to learn it and was it difficult?
3:08 When was the first live performance of Ievan Polkka?
3:38 How many times have you sung Ievan Polkka?
4:30 Do you ever feel that Ievan Polkka draws attention away from your other compositions or is it always fun to perform?
5:14 Was Ievan Polkka your first or best hit?
7:25 Did you guys expect the original to go viral as it did? How did this song change your life?

I've been obsessed with Loituma's music for so long and was so disappointed when I couldn't find much info about you guys that now seeing you sharing details about your past seems unreal! Thank you so much for these insights 🥺❤️
Loooooooooooooove you guys, don't you ever stay away from us, I'm dead without seeing you😍😍
You both have aged like fine wine and your voices are amazing. Thanks for this Q&A!
When I think about Loituma, my first thoughts are about next songs: Viimesen Kerran (because of awesome vocal), Suo (because of magic sounds of instruments and fairy melody), Kultaansa Kuuleva (because of bright and joyful mood) and Tähden Lentäessä (it sounds so dramatic). And all this musical treasures I have discovered thanks to my friend who had shown me Ievan Polkka.

You were famous these days.... Still you are famous with love around the world... Lots of love
That was so cool, you guys are awesome, and you were completely right, I'm Irish, I would have no clue of Finnish folk music if not for you guys, so thank you, and keep being so unique!
Oh, I didn't know the arrangement was inspired by waiting a bus in Moscow. That is brilliant! Creativity never stops, even when waiting for something ))

Bravo👏You guys are still famous all around the world.I learned how to sing leaven Polka from Loituma when I was 12 years old.A lot of kids in Japan was really interested in your music too. Some of my friends sang it in a school trip in Japan. He loved to play leavan Polkka.Because of that I could still sing it even I am 22years old. Thanks to Loituma.👏bravo brava👏
You mentioned at least with Timo and also yourself (Hanni) of how Ievan Polkka draws away from your other compositions- I bet it's always fun to perform! You both mention the first album, "not humoristic"- what is that? Finnish is always beautiful, thanks for these videos!

I love how you all would change the lyrics. I wanted to learn Finnish at one point and this and other covers got me wanting to learn but google translate usually just breaks, haha. I think this must be a very deep cultural thing and thank you for sharing this either way!
I'd like it if in the next part you can tell us about how your solo verse was thought up, how hard/easy it is to sing improvised verses and if you try to keep each rendition of the verse as similar to each other as possible. x

You (Hanni) and Timo talk about how the song came about with a bus stop- That is really interesting! I guess perhaps the word didn't want to change all the time- Indeed in my trying to figure out this song the lyrics can be hard to follow (at least with google translate). It seems like Ievan Polkka is like, a fun song (we kinda don't have that in the USA) especially a fun song? A version of a fun song is very rare in USA!

Idk but everytime i listen to the 1996 ievan polkka .. watching the audience show .. i always feel like it's a family! With Anita being the mother who carries the big responsibility of performing the song! Hanni as the oldest sister who shares some responsibility with the mom by doing sum (ara papa lazden lando) The other girl(idk the name) being the mid child who unfortunately gains no attention! And Timo being the little child that everyone keeps looking at and clapping for .. even that all he has to do is (Pol, pol) 😂😂😂 It's weird i know .. but i don't know if anyone feels the same ...

I have a couple of additional questions. The part performed by Hanni from "Hilipati hilipati hilipati..." to "jatsu tsappari dikkari dallan..." and further to "ratsatsa ja ripidabu dilla..." and till ".... daga daga du du deiga doo". Does it mean anything (or just an original way of singing "lalala")? Was this part born when waiting for the bus or developed later? And was this part inspired by folk misic or otherwise? Thank you )
@HanniAutere
5 ай бұрын
My solo part is not any language, just ramdom syllables. Occasionally there can be a word in Finnish, but usually not. This part was born in Finland, since I was not there when the others were in Moscow. =) I guess the solo part was inspired by folk music, but also jazz. I can't remembwer how it was developed exactly. It was very long time ago.... =)
Question for Q&A3: what was your reaction to hearing your song in one of the first internet memes?

Evan Polkan salaisuus ?... Kiitos Teille Kun Annoitte Meille Evan Polkan....
