Well to be honest, he also seems to both start and finish the song. While the Bass isn't the task most well appreciated or the most wanted it is for sure quite hard to do as well.

@@basicoflife6977 Actually, I believe the original lyrics are from the 1930's while the tune is an ancient Finnish folksong from the 1700's.But if I'm not mistaken, Loituma made some changes to the original (for example, I don't think Hanni's improvisation part was in the original).

I just realized that the time signature changes several times throughout the song. It goes between 2/2 (cut time) to 4/4 with a couple bars of 8/4 (at the slower part towards the end.) Neat!

For anyone wondering, this song is talking about a boy who takes a girl, Ieva, to a dance. Ieva's mother doesn't want her to go, but eventually, she and the boy sneak out. After the dancing, they hook up. They go back home and Ieva's mother is mad and Ieva starts crying. The song ends basically with the boy telling the mom he loves Ieva and will not give her up.
