He even had wine with Lois in the Fortress of Solitude in Superman II. The scene of him drinking in the bar in Superman III as evil superman had no effect on his body.

I watched this a bunch as a kid and later as a teen and all the adult innuendos went way over my head. It’s realistic in the fact that women usually go for men who are elite in one way or another.

In 2021 Directors would be reluctant to run a scene this long, too much chat, not enough action etc. However, here we have two actors at the top of their game creating a magical scene out of nothing & using their own ability to make a scene that is now legendry in the Superman franchise. RIP both of them.

wdym? Romance scenes between the two main characters is in plenty of films. Spiderman, Amazing Spiderman (and far from home to a small extent) had scenes of Peter and his love interest merely talking in a slower more casual pace. Synder Cut of Justice League (it wasn't a romance scene) but Lois talking to Martha, visiting the cop and meeting with Clark were all slower scenes to do with character. There are quite a bit of films that strive for action and bare minimum camera but they do still exist.

@@itwasfunnyatthetime dialogue and talking, these days (and at least since the 2010s) the general film writing out of Hollywood got sloppy and generic, then the woke stuff really crept in and so even though this is just a gentle flirty scene it would be lambasted.

I like when he sits down at 1:15 how his cape gets caught on the arm on the chair and Reeve just casually moves it aside. It gives the scene a greater sense of realism when things like that happen. I think he was half expecting a cut there but realised they were gonna keep rolling so he kept in character like a pro.

It's always touches me when two people are madly in love with each other and yet try to keep it to themselves. It makes for some really tender and funny moments and brings out the vulnerable child in all of us. Lois facial expression at 3:58 is so sweet and both of them had such great chemistry together. They play this scene perfectly with just enough innocence and naughty innuendos to convey how crazy they are about each other.

This scene doesn't focus much on them, but the film's fx were supposed to be groundbreaking for the time. The tagline was "You will believe a man can fly". Admittedly, though, all that wouldn't've amounted to much without the perfect casting, the wonderfully nuanced performances, the sharp, witty writing, the compelling action, the gripping pacing & the indelible score. Deserving of its place in The National Film Registry.

As a kid my favourite scene was Superman flying up to catch Lois falling, but now as an adult - this is my fave. No special effects or CGI can create this kind of onscreen chemistry. Its magic has not aged a single day.

That is the sweetest interview I've ever seen in a superhero film. When she asked "do you like pink" makes the scene 10x more romantic.

One of the reasons Reeve sold his performance so well was his ease of movement; he goes from flying to standing and jumps down from that wall so naturally. He looks so comfortable with himself, as you would expect of a hero with the best physical prowess in the world; even the little cape-flick as he sits down is incredibly convincing. Reeve's suit might be very simplistic, but he doesn't plod around in it like some of the more padded-up Sups.

This is without question one of the greatest romantic interactions in any film ever simply due to the skill and chemistry between the two main performers. Most other actors would struggle to act out this scene in a way an audience would believe, but both Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder are so sincere in their inflections and in their awkward pauses that you totally want to see them end up together. From the beginning of this clip, to the classic flying scene, to the moment Clark takes off his glasses and hesitates to tell Lois the truth is one of my favorite scenes in any film ever.

The super power Christopher Reeve gives to Superman is super humanity, his Superman is so human, so human that he can be human for the entire human race. No other actor could replicate that so far.

6' 4" & 225 lbs. is the perfect superman physique. And Hollywood couldn't write a scene like this today to save their lives.

Tron North yeah that guy was the tallest person to exist of course he’s not going to be that tall. Super man doesn’t need to be huge it’s his abilities that make him who he is.

I love the way Christopher Reeve says nonchalantly "No thanks, I never drink when I fly." I find that funny.

I completely agree and knowing he is so loved makes me so happy!

One of the first ever Superman and Lois interactions I ever saw as a kid. No wonder I love them so much.

He was so hot, those stunning blue eyes were so piercing against that sleek dark hair. The way he used to stare at Louis like she was the only girl in the world. That would make any girl melt! The OST of John Williams really makes these scenes so memorable and tranports us back in time, It truely was a masterpiece. The whole movie was a mix of comedy and action along with those emotional heartfelt scenes that ran throughout the course of the whole film. They sure dont make movies like this anymore. Such great chemistry from both of these fine actors, rest in peace to both of them.

Around the time this movie was out, I read that, upon being discovered, Reeve wasn't much of a muscle man, but the studios/ casting agents, etc. saw the jet-black hair, square jaw & steel-blue eyes & said something along the lines of "Don't worry, kid. We'll sew foam rubber muscles into your Superman suit." However, Reeve was dedicated & thankful enough that he spent several months "gulping protein & pumping iron" (as the article I read put it) &, by the time production started, his body was just as prepared as his face.

Christopher and Margot have awesome chemistry, Cute.

This is forever the most magical moment in the history of superhero movies. Rest In peace Christopher and Margot.

I love the moment after he says “truth, justice and the American way” and Lois kind of scoffs at it. Her reaction is exactly how we as the audience would’ve if we were there. What he said is so naive and old school that we see it as super cheesy. But it’s just so earnest and good that it almost feels like an alien concept after how cynical we’ve become. Maybe I’m reading too much into it but still a detail I love

it is true ... living in a penthouse apartment in the most expensive city in the world (or at least one of the most expensive per square meter to date) has to have a lot of credit in the account and a bullet in the needle to have this purchasing power.

God, this should _not_ be working. Chris is friggin' magical in this movie.

My god this character is an absolute dream 🤩 his looks, perfect body, charming facial expression, his eyes, perfectly groomed hair, and specially his humble personality makes him irresistible.

These two had chemistry. Everyone since had to act.

Rest In Peace, Chris & Margot. Superman'78 is the first film I ever saw. It was 2003 I was only 3 yrs old. My Dad wanted to introduce me to movies and decided Superman '78 would be the best one. According to Him, I was totally in love with the movie and enjoyed it thoroughly. I still love it today and the chemistry between Chris & Margot is still unbelievably wonderful. I'm here now, because I recently rewatched Donner's cut of Superman II. I don't know, I just miss them... May God rest their souls, They will forever be in my heart. Just as they were when I was growing up.

To my knowlege this is probably one of the most subtle-but-strong romantic scene in the history of cinema.

It was very endearing. Watching scenes from Superman II, she admits she was mean to Clark but not why. She doesn't say she loves him after he gives up his powers. Also, the idea she couldn't handle his secret at work, and had to be hypnotized to forget is disturbing. Jimmy learned his secret in _Supergirl._ Did he freak out and have to be kissed?

They should have both won oscar for that scene. W O N D E R F U L Such old fashion gentleman interview.

The smile at 3:26 has always been my favorite moment of the interview scene. It's both innocent and not at the same time and looks so genuine.

The skyline looks fake, the costume looks like a leatord. YET this is one of the greatest comic book scenes of all time. Why? Because the character work and dialogue are so strong they make every single comic movie today look pedestrian. My god I love the MCU but this is timeless. If they could catch a single ounce of the magic that happened during this scene it would just be incredible.

[STARS]TyranT It was the late 70’s so yeah they skyline looks dated but if you saw this as a kid you were blown away especially when he saves Lois from the helicopter and flies away from her on the roof I still prefer this over Snyder’s wet flat looking CGI with that Batmobile bouncing and hopping like a toy car with no real weight .

Man, i cant put into words how perfect this scene is. Catches the essence of Superman perfectly. God i miss Christopher Reeve he is and will always be the GOAT.

Not only is he Intelligent, but he's also Wise. Great and Balanced choice of Words. 😊💯

R.I.P. Margot Kidder, 1948-2018. She gave the best ever portrayal of Lois Lane IMHO.

Lacy Warfield from Superman 4 was hot.

The strength of this scene is its humanity. Two people who clearly like each other, alone together for the first time. Full with all that awkward dialogue as they try to quell both their own nerves, and that of the person with them.

Gone for 18 years, but Christopher Reeve is forever immortalized as Superman. RIP

God this might be the best movie of all time. 44 years old and I still cry at the purity and innocence of this scene. I don't care who knows it, this kind of beauty and class existed before today's disgusting descent into obscenity and cynicism. God bless Chris Reeve and Margot Kidder...and when Supe says 'Lois...I never lie'. You believe it dang it. Everyone else lies but not Superman. Makes me ball.

He didn't pretend he was someone he's not. He was Superman AND Clark Kent. That's the magic, that's the trick, that's the truth: he IS both.

As a kid, I never caught the sexual innuendo of this scene! Jesus Christ Lois is basically throwing it at him from the second he sits down.

@@Stardust_7273 I was born in 82 and grew up watching Superman on VHS,too(and reading and collecting Superman comics along with other Super Hero comics).And yes,as an adult,it's very obvious and clear as day to anyone that Lois is basically throwing herself at him. I think she was pretty much in love with him from the moment she laid eyes on him! Ha! Ha!

I just LOVE Margot Kidder's performance and think she's the underrated standout that makes the film work. Chris nails his part and Margot nails hers every bit as well.Her humor and quirky nature elevates the material. She's a series of walking contrasts. Beautiful/awkward. Streetwise/innocent. Feminist/damsel in distress. Both of them create the magic together. Christopher without Margot is a bore as seen in Superman 3. He's just as good in the movie but the movie doesn't work - it's going through the motions. Superman and his powers only captivate for a very short time - Superman's success is all about the chemistry on full display in this scene and it's one of the great romance movies of my generation. The audience may not like a romance film on the surface level, but take that element away or do it wrong and a Superman film falls flat. His heartbreak (so well acted) makes the silly world turning ending work and you wouldn't believe it if you didn't fall in love with both of the actors.

Right? People always think the past is the best. I am fully sure that rose-colored glasses are a natural, yet invisible feature of the human body. But... it is true the Reeve is the best, hehehe

No disrespect to other actors who have attempted to play SM but Chris Reeve outshines them all. It just worked including his chemistry with the screen and Margot Kidder as Lois Lane. SM MUST be 6ft 4, to begin with. Not many actors could pull off wearing the SM costume including the eloquent way Chris worked this scene. The first SM movie was and remains the best.

@@paulsmith9192 _Superman II_ wasn't hurt too much by Donner's firing; it was deleting/replacing Brando's scenes that hurt it. However _Superman III_ was a disaster (other than scenes with Lana) without him. We didn't need a Luthor wannabe but an antagonist like Brainiac or Bizarro.

Definitely the best scene of the film, including the flight scene afterwards. Gorgeous.

this is just so...perfect. the man, the woman, the scene, the entire movie is so perfect. i love it more than anything, honestly
