    Well done Mike. For stems this thin I usually tape it to the live center and pull rather than push. Gives the work just enough support to keep it from wobbling all over. These are pretty cool pieces. I need to do some of these.

    I find that shining a bright light through the top from the tail stock end helps youto judge the thickness if you're using green wood.

    Very interesting! Does the stem warp by itself over time? I was thinking "How in the world do you do an offset turning that thin?"

    I have made 4 successfully of hickory. My failure was shown in the tutorial. It failed because of the poor wood, poplar.

    What species of wood are good for this project? I like the tight bark rim.

    I think most wood that is green except for poplar. I would not want a species with very thick bark such as sourwood and some others. This was hickory but pear would be wonderful.

    I have never turned green madrona. I think most any green wood wood do.
