GOOD SUBSCRIBERS AND VIEWERS, I AM SO FRUSTRATED WITH MYSELF RE: THE DOOR! THE BRACING NEEDS TO GO INSIDE AND CROSS BRACE IN OPPOSITE DIRECTION. I WAS RUSHING TO GET IT UP YESTERDAY MORNING (WHICH IS MY EDIT DAY), AND I WASN’T FULLY THINKING AS I KNEW I’D HAVE TO TAKE IT DOWN AGAIN TO INSTALL THE WINDOW IN A FEW WEEKS. THANKS AS ALWAYS FOR POINTING THIS OUT I APPRECIATE YOU ALL! MY APOLOGIES. STRENGTH AND HONOUR TO EACH ONE OF YOU THAT POINTED THIS OUT TO ME. 🫡🤝⚡️🐺🌲

Most doors swing in to living spaces. Outward swinging can be blocked by snow and ice and trap you inside. It also makes it easy to lock you in with a wedge in the door. Edited to add: I forgot to follow my rule of trying not to only criticize in comments. so. Thank you James for sharing your journey in this series. It takes a lot of courage to do so in front of 10s of thousands of people. You are doing great. Keep up the awesome work.

James, I’d recommend looking for an old steel furnace grate that old homes used to have. They were usually 3’x5’ or so. Once you build your front porch install that grate into the porch just outside the door. When returning to the cabin you can scrape/bang your boots off thus not hauling dirt/debris indoors. We did this at my old neighbours hunting camp and everyone who saw it raved how practical it was. Really enjoying the vids and keep up the great content. P.S…….mistakes are a great thing, that’s how we all learn.

I was given advice many years ago to do my floor insulation the way you have. Fast forward to renovation and as I pull up my subfloor I find all my joists soaking wet. The poly was doing its job blocking moisture but when it had no where to go it just dripped down over the joists. Ended up have to replace a few because of this.

Hey. Why the ledge and brace in the outside? It’ll rot a lot faster. Also your hinges should be on the other side - or the diagonal should be flipped- it’s for hang support. And maintain training the door position, it doesn’t work the way you have it. Bon chance chief.

You need to somehow get loud noise makers. They do make flash bangs for civilians. This way when you are working, you have a way to make loud, uncomfortable noises for the large animals. It’s just an extra level of protection for when you are working. ❤❤

Another great video brother. You said putting gate and closed very good idea. I would also order a sign to hang on gate that says "this property has video surveillance " that would also help we posable vandals make them think there's cameras everywhere. Be safe brother.

Popping stumps out pro-tip. Leave about 5-6 feet above ground when you drop a tree. Use that stump as leverage, it'll rip the stump right out of the ground. Then lop off the wood, for firewood later.

A couple of reasons I think the cross members should be on the inside is for security. The screws that hold the door together are not accessible if on the inside and there would be more support for the "kick-in" scenario.

Just so you know James, as a failed KZreadr myself I know the importance of ads and know that the longer a user watches them, the more revenue you generate. I have ALWAYS been that guy who skips ads as soon as that skip button becomes available but this week I did not skip a single one! I hope this helps you on your journey and puts a little extra in your pocket for some cool stuff along the way brother. Keep Truckin! Strength and Honor.

We drove five hours last night to get to the Canadian border. I was on my way to get my weekly video in person since there was yet another week with no video posted but luckily I saw this video come up before we had to make the trek into the wilderness. I guess since we’re already here we might as well go look at the river. I’ve heard they might have a waterfall around.

You'll need more than some luck from the gods for a tractor! I know, we've been trying to find one here in Upstate NY for a while now and man, folks are sure proud of their old used ones as well.. With the price of new ones so high, even used ones are getting good money up here. Down south in Florida and environs, you can pick em up cheap at auction as a lot of farmers are shutting their farms down with the weather and other issues. We need a small compact tractor like that Mahindra you were using for our 30 acres. We've been building for two years now and man, it takes a LOT of hard work just keeping a place this size up. (We're not young Vikings, we're pretty long in the tooth). By the way, a Viking Longhouse door would be perfect for your cabin build.

Noticed you have a bit of shoulders back swagger when you’re toting that shotgun, big boy. For wilderness protection personally I’d carry a holstered Casul 454 in Taurus, Colt or Ruger frame. It’s deployable for both bear and human threats and can be worn while working. Cool runnin’, mon.

If a blizzard causes snow drifts up against the door, it can be difficult to get out of an outward opening door, but you could probably get out a window to clear the door. I agree with outward opening doors. Thanks for making the evening that I have to drop off my son with my ex wife so much more bearable.

If you havent already get a couple no flash trail cameras to hide along your trails. Good way to know who or what is around when your not. Also put a sign at your property entrance that says this property is under video surveillance! I have the cameras and sign my property. Nothing worse than to have no goods come onto your property looking for stuff to steal or vandalize!!

  • @KyleDuncan-i8m

I would recommend making the door an inswing for a few reasons. 1- if you have a snow drift blown up to your door you can still open it and get out, 2- its always easier to water proof an inswing door. 3- the less rain and moisture you can keep off your door the less chance you have of it warping and not making a nice seal. Also you may consider making your door out of 2 layers of ¾ or 1" rot resistant material with a non permiable layer between them. The gaps between your boards are almost guaranteed to open up a little bit, letting wind and moisture into the cabin.
