This is a beautiful sample keyboard, you are a beast with it! The flute really got me and then the singing bowl...dude this sounds amazing, at least the sample side of it! Its a really cool concept that has such an easy workflow to get something good. Great video man!

I've heard before of this sampling keyboard, but seeing it in action is another thing. Quite BoC stuff here and there, but the singing bowl is from another planet!

Now thats some original analog lofi, love it! These old keyboards become new again!

Really nice grainy sounds. The forward reverse loop is a great feature that I have on the ensoniq eps. Havnt used it in ages and is a beast as its heavy and has full size keys, this is a great portable sampler for the money you paid. Would like to hear some beats through it aswell, but you got some nice boc sounding stuff already even the fm sounds I like. Very 90s even 80s

Super cool. I definitely hear the Sigur Ros. To Rococo Rot also used it quite a lot apparently. I really need to use this one more often.

Nice demo, just got the VSS-30 and this is thing is magnificent. I noticed the 200 has a few more sampler features on it, not to mention the 100 sounds included. But in essence they are the same.

Great Demo. Picked up one of these in a charity shop earlier today. Learnt how to play Everything In Its Right Place by Radiohead using the instrument 58 - muted flute! 😉

it doesn't have vibrato because it has AM which can be used as vibrato. thats probably why Yamaha omitted it on the 200 because it's redundant. anyway, the 30 is probably the coolest looking toy keyboard ever made and its smaller, but the 200 really is the king of the toy samplers as it can do everything the 30 can do and so much more. even the cheesiest sound in the sound bank can be mangled and layered into something great.

Exactly what cable would I need to plug this into my audio interface and record directly into my DAW (Ableton Live)? I know I would need a cable that could connect to its headphones/aux out jack on one end, but what about the other end? Can anyone link to a cable that works and with what audio interface? Thanks!

you need an RCA to 1/8th inch audio cable to plug it into your computer audio in. the keyboard doesn't have MIDI or USB so the only way to get the sounds to your DAW is directly recording.

Any modern 61-88 keyboards? I do love the Ensoniq line and sound, but for most vintage hardware and their price point I’d think It would be better to invest in a more present day keyboard? I’m for either or tbh, to me it’s all about the sound and I’m very open to suggestions or comments :) thanks for the content!

VSS-30 is similar, has a great vibrato this doesn't have but lacks a few other features but has a better form factor. It also doesn't have a the mic attached but it sounds sweet with an SM58...

I think the FM effect could be a little more useful if you had a "wet/dry" parameter. Does the VSS-200 have a line input like the VSS-30?

Do all the VSS series sample audio at the same quality? im looking at getting a VSS-100 and the sounds samples ive heard dont sound nearly as good as this

@@projectnull thanks very much for the reply. the guy is asking 250 for the VSS100 which is still pretty up there. i would pay 250 for a vss200 in a heartbeat what an absolute beauty. ye im familiar with the sk series they can be pretty pricey nowadays too. low fi is awsome but when the prices are getting up there - one starts to consider real samplers like a micro korg microsampler. but no.. that vss200 is freakin beauty! - that CB radio style mic - and its internal sounds sounds great. vss30 lookstop notch aswell

Hey man I have one of these but a angry dad must have chopped the microphone off, when being terrorised by their kids, can you use the input to sample with a phono to XLR with a mic? X

How many times can you overwrite/overdub with samples?

Can you connect to a computer and upload custom audio to sample? If yes, I’m SOLD on this lol. I LOVE creating/sampling my own original sounds. Just really adds uniqueness to music.

I had a VSS-30 in 80s and 90s! The VSS-200 is a VSS-30 on ecstasy! :)

I've used both. The irony is that the VSS30 is WAY more expensive on eBay because it was used by more famous artists, but is nowhere near as editable.

I did not checked prices since I made this, but 400 bucks is wayyy too expensive - at this point, you should grab a akai s1000 or save a little bit for a s950.

Does this thing have a midi?

i got one for christmas 88, i used to sample my stepdads dog barking...... my stepdad hated it as he thought it was the dog wanting to go outside so he smashed it with a hammer......... so i killed his dog, my mum bought it for me.............. :(
