I miss that life. I was a conductor and engineer with UP for almost 10 years. I miss that kind of comradery. There's no life like that and I was proud to tell people what I did for a living. I hired out when I just turned 19. I'm 33 now and life took me in a different direction...but I think about the days and nights I spent out there on the rails sometimes and it makes me smile.

Okay, use of electronics, independant brake on over 10 mph, talking after approach signal, "sterile cab" no eye protection with window open, some happened several times. Not all were offenses in 2014, but management hired several hackers to monitor facebook on employees and fire them. You cant deny a camera. It was always my duty to protect my fellow hogheads from corporate. I was involved with my union and I despise the hedge fund shit weasels that stole my Railroad. You also have to sound horn when passing stopped train to warn trainmen walking stopped train. Conductors are supposed to check train when stopped and watch other moving trains by. Cameras catch you when you dont. Pheeew!

I spent 9 months on the street for trying to fix an electronical problem. All trainmasters are taught to hate union workers unless you are willing to rat out your fellow workers. A very toxic work enviroment. I wish this wasn't true.

Hi Mike. Just caught your videos and subscribed to your channel. My dad was a railroader for the Maine Central as a brakeman. Dad did take me with him on 4 different occasions from Rigby Yard in So. Portland, Me. to St Johnsbury, Vt. What a thrill. I came ever so close to hiring out myself in 1969. It was a yard job, so I declined. I wanted the road like dad. If I had known how bigger companies work, I would most certainly have taken it. Sometimes you take what's available to get through the door and transfer from there when something else opens up. I ended up driving an 18 wheeler for 38 years, 25 of that as a Teamster. Enjoying my retirement. One last thing, I love trains, always have, always will. Over the years I did get to ride in the yard with a couple of great engineers. Great people. Stay safe.

always wanted to work for the Class 1's but then PSR killed it for me having any desire. I'm a single man with no kids so the schedule isn't the issue.

It's really wasn't that relevant with me we had any number of things limiting the full experience of the engines capability most of the time, tonnage and track restrictions..I would say for me GE they came a long way.
