I just managed to decode one of these locks based on the instructions here. In my case the handle only turned clockwise to unlock so I tensioned it clockwise. I put a fair bit of tension on it and then gently pressed each button. Most of the buttons felt like the button itself touched up against something solid, and then the button and the solid thing further pressed up against something else - so there were two times the button felt like it pressed against another surface. However one of the buttons would only touch that first solid surface and then it would not budge - it was "binding". That was the first code button. I released the tension, pressed that button, then repeated the process to find the next button that was binding. I was able to repeat this for all four buttons (two on the left, two on the right in my case) and found the code that opened the lock in only a couple of minutes. I don't know if this process works with all locks of this type, or perhaps mine had no anti-pick measures, but I just thought I'd explain it in case it gave anyone else some ideas.

so at worst brute forcing would need 20 attempts (with three on the right), all 4 on the right needs the same number of guesses as only two on the right (15 possibilities), cool vid

I wonder does the binding you're experiencing on the left side vs the right side have to do with the direction you are tensioning? does it behave the exact same way if you tension anticlockwise? perhaps you can decode the left with CW and decode the right with ACW?

no the tension is always in the same direction internally no matter which direction you turn the knob. its all about the false gate vs no false gate.
