Lock Picking: Opening Good Locks with Bad Homemade Tools

Back to locksport! Although I would always recommend using quality tools, I attempt to open an Abus 81TI/50 lock with security pins using a windshield wiper blade insert. It took an embarrassingly long time to open, but it worked!

I believe Bill has retired from making new videos, but the ones he has posted are great, including some about making your own picking tools.
If you decide to take up lock picking, enjoy the challenge, and please make a commitment to abide by TOOOL's rules of ethics (see their website for details):
1. Never pick or manipulate any lock that does not belong to you, unless you have been granted explicit permission by the lock's rightful owner.
2. Never disseminate knowledge or tools of lock picking to individuals whom you know or have reason to suspect would seek to employ such skills or equipment in a criminal manner.
3. Be mindful of the relevant laws concerning lock picks and related equipment in any country, state, or municipality where you seek to engage in hobbyist lock picking or recreational locksporting.
Cheers!

😅👍🏼 Have considered trying that more than once after changing wiper blades! Glad you were brave enough to film it! Fun, thanks! 😎✌🏼

Thanks for checking in, Mike! I guess you're right about being brave enough to film it, but I definitely wasn't brave enough to make everyone suffer through nearly 10 minutes of me struggling to make any progress (hence the picking portion shown at 20x speed!). It was a fun challenge for a winter day, but nothing has made me appreciate my Peterson and SouthOrd picks quite so much! If you'd like windshield wiper steel I'd be happy to send you the rest of mine--I don't plan to use it again, haha.

one of my favorite picks is made from a wiper blade. It took much longer, with a dremmel to get a nice short hook shape.

Cool! It sounds like your level of dedication to making a quality pick was a lot higher than mine, haha. Did you make a handle for it?

I didn't see the SNA411. But 3:57 that is some sweater. Vintage Cabela's woodland camo wool commando sweater? Do you prefer quartz or something like Eco-Drive over an automatic movement?

Dude, the beloved Flightmaster is prominently featured at 6:42, haha! And you're close on that sweater. It is near and dear to my heart. It is (I believe) a British military sweater that was given to me as a gift while I was in France. It has kept me out of the hypothermic range on several outdoor (mis)adventures over the years. And speaking of the Flightmaster, I am impressed that you actually read all the way to the end of the video description; you, sir, are a true friend and a gentleman. I hope all is well in your world, and keep in touch!

Would you be interested in booking a halibut or other charter together? Would love to hang out again and if the fishing is terrible we could at least BS about pens or metal detecting or growing up in the midwest. Hopefully not just puking over the rail. I ask here so your fans can comment if halibut or offshore fishing is something they'd like to see. I still need to get you out squid fishing and razor clamming! And oystering! (It's fun but I won't eat them so it's all you)

Thanks Kyle and yes to all (well, except puking over the side of a charter boat, haha), provided I can make it work. Squid would be really neat; I'm pretty sure I've never even seen a live one in real life before. And you are missing out on eating oysters! 😋 Anyhow, keep in touch and we'll see if we can plan something.
